Summary:

Looking at the price, the specs on these smartphones are competitive. The Realme 2 Pro rivals the Mi A2 that launched recently and matches its price. Some may find the Realme 2 Pro to be much prettier than the Mi A2, thanks to the waterdrop notch. I, myself, think that.

Realme C1 is also a direct competitor to Xiaomi 6A. It looks like Redmi is geared to hit the budget market by the storm. There will be more options and sweeter deals throughout the year. I am looking forward to it.

Realme is a new smartphone brand that entered Nepal in 2019. Well, it’s more like a sub-brand of Oppo considering its phones come with Oppo branded charger. However, having a subbrand seems like a thing now. All the prominent Chinese manufacturers – Huawei, Xiaomi, and Oppo – now have a sub-brand: Honor, Poco, and RealMe.

Realme launched its first product, Realme 1, in India in May 2018. The Indian market was the first step for Realme. As of now, Realme is targeting to reach the global market, with potential target markets including Southeast Asia, which comprises Nepal as well. So currently, in collaboration with Pashupati Traders, Realme has launched four phones in Nepal: Realme 5, Realme 2 Pro, Realme 3, and Realme C2.

This is an extensive list of all the Redmi smartphones available in Nepal.

Realme C2

it packs a 6.1-inch HD+ IPS LCD display. It has a V-shaped notch and not-that-big chin at the bottom. Realme C2 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P22 processor from the inside. This processor is paired with two or three gigabytes of RAM.

Realme C2 comes with 16GB of internal storage. This is too low for even if you only use stock apps. If you shoot more than one or two photos, you will have to invest in an SD card. That is a dedicated card slot instead which means you can use two SIM and a memory card side by side.

Inside, a 4,000mAh battery gives life-juice to the phone. Even if you are a heavy user, this phone will last you a whole day. At the back, there’s a dual 13MP+2MP camera setup. The 13MP sensor is the main lens while the 2MP lens is a depth sensor. At the front, you get a five-megapixel selfie camera. It’s a budget phone, so don’t expect the picture quality to blow you away.

If you want more power then opt for the Redmi 7 or you can also go for Redmi 8 which looks more premium and packs a huge 5000 mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

Realme 2 Pro

The Realme 2 Pro is priced in India at Rs. 13,990 for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage model, Rs.15,990 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, and Rs. 17,990 for the 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage option. But for now, only the 4GB variant is coming to Nepal and it will cost you Rs. 30,499. That’s a bit more than double the Indian price, so we don’t know what Realme is playing at here.

However, you do get what you pay for with this phone. Realme 2 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS OS 5.2 custom software. The smartphone sports a 6.3-inch (1080×2340 pixels) full-HD+ screen with 90.8 percent screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and 409ppi pixel density. It is powered by the Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor paired with Adreno 512 GPU. Realme 5

As far as looks are concerned, the Realme is not that different from other smartphones in the mid-range category. The rear has the same typical layout with the cameras aligned vertically in the left and a physical fingerprint scanner in the center. Though, the shattered effect on the plastic body which is rather appealing, It has a 6.5 inches IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution.

Under the hood, the phone houses a Snapdragon 665 SoC paired with 3/4GB RAM and 32/64/128GB internals. Though, it’s only available in the 64/128GB variants in Nepal as of now. The phone comes shipped with Color OS 6.1 on top of Android 9 right out of the box. The phone is supposed to receive an Android 10 based Color OS 7 update but that may not be until the 2nd quarter of 2020.

The quad-camera setup on the rear is centered around a 12MP sensor. Surrounding the primary camera is an 8MP ultrawide, 2MP dedicated macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. I’d wouldn’t expect a crazy level of detail from the 12MP sensor, but it should get out some decent photos. The notch hides a 13MP selfie camera if you were wondering.

Finally, the most appealing aspect of the device is the monstrous 5000 mAh battery on this device. It should easily last an entire day. But the problem is not the battery, it’s the charging time. You see, the phone doesn’t have support for fast charging and only comes with a standard 10W charger.

Thoughts

Looking at the price, the specs on these smartphones are competitive. Realme 3 rivals the Redmi Note 7 which has seen a recent price drop. In terms of power, the redmi note 7 slightly edges the Realme 3.  Also, it only has an HD screen.

Realme C2 is also a direct competitor to Redmi 8A.
