Worry not as affordable smartphones these days are getting better day by day. And, they have almost all the features you would expect from a more expensive phone like a high-resolution screen, good camera, and good enough performance.

But, don’t you think there are too many smartphones out there and it’s hard to decide which smartphone to buy?

While having many choices is a good thing, it can create confusion among consumers as to which smartphone to buy.

So, if you’re looking to buy a budget smartphone, we’ve put together a list of the best phones under 20000 in Nepal. We’ve included the pros and cons of all the phones as well so that you can pick the best one for you.

Prices may Vary

It’s worth noting that all the prices shown below were accurate at the time of writing. As smartphone prices can fluctuate with time and new offers being rolled out, you may find some phones have had their pricing altered when you go shopping for them.

Also, we have decided to include phones that are over Rs. 20,000 by Rs. 500 to Rs. 1000. This was done so that worthy phones wouldn’t get disqualified over a technicality.

We suggest you buy these phones from authorized stores and not grey channels as they may lead to issues down the road. This list of best mobile phones under 20000 in Nepal is based on our opinion and testing.

Choosing Phones Under 20000 in Nepal 2023

Whether you are a tech wizard or someone who has no idea about technology at all, we hope to help you out either way. Below is a list of qualities that are generally considered to be the pillars of a good mobile under 20000 in Nepal.

Now remember, some phones may be good at one thing and bad at the other. We’ll base our list on these pillars and choose the phones that provide an overall value that’s worthy of your money.

Build Quality

Everyone would love to see a metal frame and ceramic back on their phones, but at this price range, it’s a bit unrealistic.

You can expect plastic frames and plastic back panels in smartphones under Rs. 20000 in Nepal. They’re not the most premium or durable materials but they are still very respectable.

Display

A higher resolution means a sharper display, a higher refresh rate means a faster display, and higher brightness means, well, the display can get bright.

On smartphones with display sizes ranging from 6″ to 6.9″, FHD+ resolution is usually considered the sweet spot and you should look for faster refresh rates as well.

Performance

The chip is what drives the smartphone and is probably the most confusing part for anyone who is shopping for one.

Generally, you can look at the clock speed and core count to make a vague estimation of the quality and performance of the chip. If you’re not convinced, you can read our review for the full details.

Camera

It’s a bit difficult to confidently say if a phone takes good photos as much of it is software-based optimizations now. You can read our reviews or look at a brand’s reputation for image processing.

The technology has improved to the point that most phones take really good photos given good lighting conditions, you can expect phones even in this price range to take decent daylight photos.

Battery

The general notion is that a larger battery will last longer. At least a capacity of 4500mAh has seemed to become the norm, even among budget phones.

Also, 30W to 60W is considered fast charging. However, in this budget, you can expect 18W to be the norm.

#5. Infinix Hot 30i

Infinix Hot 30i Verdict

hot 30i

For a phone that starts at under Rs. 15K, the Hot 30i is quite decent. It may not be the best in any specific category but at this budget, it has a good overall performance. The only complaint we can really make is that it supports only 10W charging for a big battery of 5000mAh which can take over 3 hours for a full charge.

PRICING

Rs. 14,499 (4/64GB)

Rs. 16,999 (8/128GB)

Pros

  • Decent design
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • 90Hz display
  • 50MP camera
  • 5000mAh battery

Cons

  • Android 12
  • 10W charging

Reasons to Buy

The Infinix Hot 30i has a beautiful design and it’s one of the few mobiles under 20000 in Nepal that offer 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage. You get a fingerprint sensor for security.

You get a 50MP main camera with this phone. It’s a good shooter with fast focus and decent dynamic range.

Furthermore, the display has a refresh rate of 90Hz so the phone feels pretty smooth. You also get a large 5000mAh which can easily last you over a day of usage.

Reasons to Avoid

The phone comes with a HD+ resolution display which is decent enough but a full HD+ resolution would’ve been better as the screen size is 6.56 inches.

You get Android 12 out of the box and Infinix XOS skin on top. There are a couple of bloatware apps preinstalled with the phone. If you prefer a smooth Android experience you might want to look into some other phones.

This phone is also not the most powerful phone available on this list as it features an octa-core Helio G37. Also, it only comes with 10W charging which can take well over 3 hours to fully charge.

#4. Samsung Galaxy A14 4G

Samsung Galaxy A14 4G Verdict

galaxy a14

The Galaxy A14 4G is a toned-down version of the A14 5G. It has a good camera combination and you can expect good software support with Samsung devices in general. Sadly, this phone is only available with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage in Nepal but thankfully supports up to 1TB of expandable storage.

Cons

The bezels are a bit on the thicker side and if you can look past the 60Hz refresh rate screen, you’ll find that it’s still a good panel.

You get a 50MP main camera with this phone. Samsung has good processing and the photos come out decent. Surprisingly, this phone also comes with a wide-angle camera which is missing in the 5G version.

You also get a large 5000mAh which can easily last you over a day of usage.

The phone comes with a Helio G80. It’s not a bad processor by any means but perhaps due to the phone running One UI Core, it feels sluggish. Performance is not its strong suit.

The 4GB RAM also holds back the phone. Apps aren’t stored in memory for long and the experience isn’t that great. You’ll probably have to switch to the Lite version of multiple apps. Also, the phone comes with 10W charging so it’s gonna take a while for the phone to charge fully.

#3. Realme Narzo N55

Realme Narzo N55 Verdict

narzo n55

This phone starts just north of Rs. 20,000 but it’s a really good phone. The 64MP camera is one of the best daylight shooters we’ve seen for phones in this price range. It games well, comes with Android 13 out of the box, and supports 33W fast charging which is segment-leading.

PRICING

Rs. 20,499 (4/64GB)

Rs. 24,499 (6/128GB)

Pros

  • Two-tone design
  • Hole punch camera

  • Lacks ultrawide camera

Reasons to Buy

The Narzo N55 brings a minimalistic two-tone back with a hole punch on the front which is very rare in this price range. The cameras have a silver ring around them which adds to the phone’s clean look.

The phone also comes with an FHD+ resolution 6.72-inch display with a hole punch camera. It also supports a 90Hz refresh rate so the phone feels pretty smooth. It’s powered by the Helio G88 which is not the best chipset on this list but it’s still a capable performer in daily usage.

The cameras are surprisingly good. It’s one of the best shooters in the mobiles under 20000 in Nepal. The videos are also shot at 1080p@60fps which is pretty good.

You also get a large 5000mAh which supports 33W fast charging. This is the fastest charging phone in this price range at the time of writing.

Reasons to Avoid

The phone comes with Android 13 out of the box with Realme UI 4.0 on top. The software needs some optimizations but it’s not by any means a deal-breaker in our opinion.

The phone lacks an ultrawide camera. The main camera is good but even an 8MP sensor would’ve made this phone so much better as it would provide a different perspective.

#2. Poco M5

Poco M5 Verdict

poco m5

The Poco M5 focuses on providing good performance for the price with a good display and a good battery life. The camera and charging could have been better though. However, it is a very good budget phone with top-notch performance and it pulls away from most of its competitors.

Reasons to Buy

The Poco M5 has a flashy design that is loud and screams for attention. It has a textured finish for a good grip and feels premium relative to its price. You get an FHD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate on this phone.

The phone is a performance monster as it has the Helio G99 chipset. This chipset is one used in much more expensive phones compared to the M5, ranging above Rs. 30,000 usually.

You get a large 5000mAh battery with a 22.5W charger but the phone supports up to 18W fast charging.

Reasons to Avoid

Cameras are not its strong suit. The main camera is average. The photos are not very sharp and exposure has some issues with this phone.
