The company dropped the price by Rs. 3,000 until October 3. Now, the Xiaomi 12X price in Nepal is Rs. 68,999 (8/256GB). It is available at all Xiaomi authorized stores across Nepal.

Xiaomi had launched the Xiaomi 12 series for global markets in mid-March, nearly three months after it debuted in China. In late March, the Xiaomi 12 Pro, the series’ most expensive model, was launched in Nepal.

After a month, Xiaomi launched two additional models from the series in the country: Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12X. Both the phones feature the world’s first 12-bit colour display.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12 are both powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, while the Xiaomi 12X is the series’ most affordable variant, with the Snapdragon 870 chipset.

In this article, we will take a look at the specifications and features of the Xiaomi 12X.

Xiaomi 12X Overview

Design

In terms of design, the Xiaomi 12X is identical to the Xiaomi 12. The 12X has the same metal and glass body with a rectangular rear camera module as the 12.

The frame is curved and the device is as compact as the Xiaomi 12, with the same dimensions (152.7mm x 69.6mm x 8.2mm). However, the 12X is slightly lighter by a few grams.

The device has stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon. One of which is on the bottom side, along with the primary microphone, and the USB-C port. The top houses the other speaker, the secondary microphone, and the IR blaster.

Display

The 12X has a 6.28-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with 120Hz dynamic refresh rate support. It is not an LTPO display like its Pro counterpart is.

However, the Xiaomi 12X (and the Xiaomi 12) is the first smartphone display we know of featuring 12-bit colour. It means that the display is capable of showing more than 68 billion colours. Oddly, the most expensive Pro variant only has a 10-bit display panel.

Moving on, the display features Corning Gorilla Glass Victus and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Currently, Dolby Vision is the only HDR standard that supports 12-bit colours.

Hardware

The chipset is the only major factor that differentiates the Xiaomi 12X from the Xiaomi 12. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 5G chipset, as opposed to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

The Snapdragon 870 is a year-old processor that shares many of the same specifications as the Snapdragon 865 Plus 5G from 2020 but is still quite capable.

The Snapdragon 870 has Adreno 650 GPU and an Octa-core CPU with one 3.2GHz Kryo 585 (Cortex-A77) cores, three 2.42GHz Kryo 585 (Cortex-A77) cores, and four 1.80GHz Kryo 585 (Cortex-A55) cores.

Xiaomi 12X has LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage and comes in two variants: 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. However, only the latter is currently available in Nepal. Moreover, unlike the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s quad speakers, the Xiaomi 12X features a dual speaker tuned by Harman Kardon that supports Dolby Atmos.

To help cool down the CPU, the Xiaomi 12 series packs a cooling system bolstered by a large 2600 sq. mm vapour chamber and multiple layers of graphite.

Camera

The triple rear camera features a 50MP (Sony IMX766) main camera, 13MP ultra-wide angle camera, and a 5MP telemacro camera. It’s the same camera array we saw on the Xiaomi 12.

The front has a 32MP camera for selfies. The Xiaomi 12X is also capable of shooting 8K videos at 24fps.

Battery and OS

Powering the device is a 4500mAh that supports 67W fast charging via USB-C. Sadly, it does not support wireless charging or reverse charging.

Unfortunately, the Xiaomi 12X does not boot on the latest Android 12. Instead, it comes with Android 11 out-of-the-box topped with MIUI 13.

Xiaomi 12X Price in Nepal and Availability

The Xiaomi 12X price in Nepal is Rs. 68,999 (8/256GB). It is available at all Xiaomi-authorized outlets in Nepal. This price is a discounted price for Dashain and is valid until October 3 only.

After October 3, the price will go back to Rs. 71,999. Initially, it was priced at Rs. 76,999. Then in early August, Xiaomi dropped Rs. 5,000.

The Xiaomi 12X (and the Xiaomi 12) is the world’s first smartphone to sport a 12-bit colour display. The device has a striking resemblance to the Xiaomi 12. In addition to the display, it retains the same design, cameras, and battery.

The chipset is the only significant difference between the two, aside from minor details such as the lack of support for wireless charging and reverse charging, as well as Xiaomi’s proprietary AI algorithms for the camera.
