When the Android Ban hit Huawei, they were unable to sell phones in the global market as they lacked Google Services. For this reason, Huawei decided to sell Honor to prevent both companies from sinking. Initially, Honor was a sub-brand of Huawei but after parting ways in November 2020, they now run as independent companies.

Most of its products have similar specs to Huawei phones but they come with more exciting designs and cheaper price tags. Honor X9b, Honor 90, and Honor 90 Lite are some of its major smartphones.

  • 100MP main camera
  • 4500mAh battery

Cons

  • LCD display
  • Only 1080p@30fps videos
  • Charging could’ve been faster

The Honor 90 Lite is pretty thin and feels pretty solid. The back is made of plastic and has a soft touch finish. It’s a flat back and the frame has rounded corners for easier gripping of the phone. On the front, it’s a flat display, with thin bezels and a hole punch cutout for the camera. The display itself is LCD FullHD+ with a 90Hz refresh rate.

The phone comes with MediaTek’s 6020 (7nm) to power the phone. It is an octa-core processor with 2 Cortex-A76 at 2.2GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 at 2GHz while the graphics is handled by Mali-G57 MC2. You also get the phone with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

The triple-camera setup on the Honor 90 Lite features a 100MP f1.9 primary camera. The other two sensors are a 5MP f2.2 ultrawide and a 2MP macro. Even on paper, only the main camera seems usable as the ultrawide and macro just don’t have enough resolution for decent photos in 2024. The front however comes with a 16MP camera and supports 2D facial recognition.

Honor 90 Lite Price in Nepal: Rs. 31,990 (8/256GB)

Powering the phone is a 4500mAh battery and it supports 22.5W fast charging. It’s not the best we’ve seen and Honor claims a bit over 50% charge in half an hour. The phone runs on Android 13 with MagicOS 7.1 on top. Honor has promised 1 major update and 3 security updates for the phone.

The Honor 90 Lite looks pretty decent on paper but makes some compromises as well with the low-res ultrawide and relatively slower charging speeds.

Cons

  • Low storage
  • Outdated micro-USB 2.0

The back of the Honor X5 is made of plastic but has a leather-like finish. There is a single rear camera with a flash enclosed in a huge square at the top left corner. For the display, it sports an LCD panel with HD+ resolution which is the norm in this budget. It’s a 60Hz display and features a waterdrop notch for the selfie camera.

The phone is powered by the Helio G25. It’s a 12nm chipset and is an octa-core (4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.5 GHz Cortex-A53) with PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The weak point of this phone is the low amount of RAM and storage options. It is only available in 2/32GB configurations and will run out of memory quite easily.

The back has a single 8MP primary camera, while for the selfies, there is a 5MP camera at the front. Both the front and back cameras can shoot 1080p videos. As is the norm with budget phones, don’t expect incredible photos and you’ll be happy with the output.

Honor X7a

Honor X7a Summary

x7a

The Honor X7a is a lower mid-ranger from Honor. It brings features like a large battery and a quad-camera setup but also compromises the chipset and display. It’s difficult to recommend this phone as it doesn’t bring much value as compared to other phones.

PRICING

Rs. 22,990 19,990 (6/128GB)
(Winter Offer)

Pros

  • 90Hz display
  • 50MP main camera
  • 6000mAh battery

Cons

  • HD+ resolution
  • The chipset could’ve been better

The Honor X7a has a plastic frame and back. The back has a gradient finish with curved sides and two huge camera circles accompanied by a little pill-shaped flash. The 90Hz display is of only HD+ resolution and may not be as sharp as the FullHD+ found in other phones. Also, the display has a dewdrop notch for the front camera.

Powering the phone is a Helio G37. It’s very entry level and is an octa-core and comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Honor has provided large storage but compromised on the chipset.

On paper, the phone has a quad camera setup. The main sensor is a 50MP one while the other 3 consist of a 5MP ultrawide, 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. Realistically, only the main camera is usable, maybe the ultrawide in some cases but the other 2 are just there to fulfill the status quo. The main camera shoots sharp photos in good light and contains enough detail to be shared on social media. On the front, you get an 8MP selfie camera.

Honor X7a Specifications

  • Display: 6.74 inches IPS LCD, 720 x 1600 pixels, 90Hz refresh rate, 20:9 ratio
  • Chipset: MediaTek Helio G37 (12nm)
  • CPU: Octa-core (4×2.3 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4×1.8 GHz Cortex-A53)

  • Memory: 128GB 6GB RAM, supports microSDXC
  • OS: Android 12, Magic UI 6.1
  • Rear Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), PDAF
    • 5 MP, f/2.2, (ultrawide)
    • 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro)
    • 2 MP, f/2.4, (depth)
    • Video: 1080p@30fps
  • Front Camera: 8 MP, f/2.0, (wide)
    • Video: 1080p@30fps
  • Battery: Non-removable Li-Po 6000mAh battery, 22.5W fast charging

Honor X7a Price in Nepal: Rs. 22,990 19,990 (6/128GB)

The battery is a huge 6000mAh one and will easily last over a day of usage given the underpowered chipset and display. The phone also supports 22.5W fast charging so the battery should be full in a bit over 2 hours. The phone runs on Android 12 out of the box with Magic UI 6.1 on top.

The X7a offers large storage, quad cameras and a huge battery but the compromises on the chipset and display quality limit it from being an all-rounder in this price segment.

Honor X8a

Honor X8a Summary

x8a

The Honor X8a is a mid-range smartphone with an attractive design. It also boasts a huge 100MP main camera and an older, yet decent, Helio G88 chipset. However, in this price segment, you can also opt for other manufacturers that provide more value for money.

PRICING

Rs. 30,490 28,490 (8/128GB)
(Winter Offer)

Pros

  • Decent performance
  • Good Storage option
  • 100MP camera

Cons

  • Only 22.5W fast charging
  • Ultrawide could’ve been better

Honor X8a takes the design inspiration from its powerful sibling, the Honor X8. It has a square-shaped camera module on the back similar to recent iPhones. The rear of the phone features a frosted finish with a textured panel that shines when hit by light. In terms of display, the Honor X8a has a 6.7-inch FHD+ 90Hz IPS display. The bezels are quite slim and Honor has also calibrated the display for better accuracy.

Inside, it is powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset along with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The G88 is pretty old now and is often seen on phones under Rs. 25,000. It’s an octa-core and has no issues with daily life tasks but may struggle a bit when it comes to playing heavy games.

The phone features a triple camera setup, a main 100MP camera, 5MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro. Just on paper, the main camera seems to be capable but the other two seem pretty outdated in 2024. Also, the videos are limited to 1080p@30fps.

Taking inspiration from the flagship Magic series, the device features three cameras and a flash at the back arranged in a ring. Honor calls it the Matrix Star Ring design. The phone is made of plastic but the curved sides make it look more premium and the phone is pretty thin and light. Moving on to the display, the curved OLED display is pretty killer with a 10-bit 93% screen-to-body ratio. The display refreshes at 120Hz and features 1920Hz PWM dimming technology to help reduce screen flickering.

Powering the phone is a Snapdragon 695 5G chipset. It’s a midrange processor and is built on a 6nm process technology with a total of 8 cores. The phone breezes through normal tasks and is also quite capable when it comes to gaming with the Adreno 619 GPU.

The phone has a triple camera setup at the rear. The main sensor is a 64MP shooter paired with a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro sensor. The main camera produces pleasant images and the photos are sharp in good light condition. The phone has an adequate dynamic range and the overall images are quite good. The other two cameras are not very good and you won’t be using them much. The real compromise here is that the phone only supports 1080p@30fps videos.
