Honor’s X-series has been busy keeping the budget-phone game interesting. The latest addition, the Honor X6e, was launched in select global markets in July 2026, following the Honor X7e. Now, the phone has finally landed in Nepal.

Compared to its predecessor, the Honor X6d, there are some interesting changes under the hood, a few that make you go, “Okay, that actually makes sense,” and others that leave you scratching your head.

Let’s find out that in detail.

The Honor X6e follows the X6d, a phone that already made some compromises to keep its price in check. The X6e arrives in a very different pricing environment, with memory costs continuing to push smartphone prices upward.

We wouldn’t exactly call it a straightforward successor, though. Honor has once again had to decide where to save and where to spend. The key issue is whether the X6e has too many compromises for its price.

Honor X6e Overview

The Honor X6e doesn’t stray too far from the X6d’s design. It has a bulky square camera module with two cutouts similar to the Oppo A6 Pro as well. One meaningful design upgrade is the replacement of the old teardrop notch with a punch-hole, giving it a more modern and premium look. Then again, the plastic frame and plastic back make it look a little more budget-oriented.

It comes in Sunrise Gold and Midnight Black. At 8.3mm and 207 grams, it is also slightly thicker and noticeably heavier than the X6d, which was 7.9mm and 186 grams.

On the display front, the X6e has finally brought some proper makeovers. The 6.61-inch TFT LCD now runs at 120Hz, up from 90Hz on the X6d, with 720 x 1604 resolution and up to 1,010 nits peak brightness.

It also gets IP64 protection, 1.8-metre drop resistance, and 5-star SGS Premium Drop Protection, all missing on the X6d.

All these upgrades sound better, until you look around. The Redmi 17 5G, for instance, offers a much larger 6.9-inch 120Hz HD+ IPS LCD, along with Gorilla Glass 7i at a lower price.

Honor has equipped the X6e with the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra paired with a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. Sounds familiar? That’s because it is.

The X6d came with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, which brought 5G connectivity and a meaningful performance upgrade over the X6c’s Helio G81 Ultra. The X6e, however, circles back to the same chipset family used by the X6c.

Don’t get me wrong, the Helio G81 Ultra is a decent entry-level SoC and popular among budget phones. But at its current price, it feels harder to justify.

The competition isn’t helping either. The Infinix Hot 70 at a cheaper rate comes with the Helio G100 Ultimate, a 6nm chip. So, while the X6e gets meaningful upgrades elsewhere, performance is one area where Honor has clearly taken a step back from the X6d.

The X6e houses a massive 7,500mAh Si/C Li-Po battery, compared with the X6d’s 5,260mAh cell. Despite the jump in capacity, the X6e still manages to keep a fairly slim profile.

I’d consider that fairly impressive for a phone carrying such a huge battery. Honor has also used silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery technology this time, which helps pack more capacity into a relatively compact body.

Charging gets a major upgrade too, jumping from 15W to 45W wired charging. The X6e also supports 7.5W reverse wired charging, up from just 2.5W on the X6d. Still, 7.5W isn’t exactly fast, so it’s more of a handy backup than a proper charging solution.

As for the camera side, the X6e doesn’t bring much to the table. It gets the same 50MP f/1.8 main camera as the X6d, paired with a 5MP f/2.2 selfie camera. Both can record video at up to 1080p at 30fps. Honor has not upgraded the camera hardware significantly; the X6c, X6d, and X6e all feature the same cameras.

On the contrary, the Motorola G57 Power, for instance, costs only slightly more, but you are getting 8/128GB, and it adds an 8MP ultrawide camera alongside its 50MP main camera. It can also record up to 1440p video, while the X6e remains limited to 1080p at 30fps.

Lastly, the phone runs Android 16 with MagicOS 10 layered on top.

The Honor X6e gets the basics right, but at its current price, the competition makes those basics feel less special. The 7,500mAh battery, 45W charging, 120Hz display, and IP64 rating are nice, but the cheaper Redmi 17 5G offers the same battery and charging while adding 5G.

Spend a little more on the Moto G57 Power, meanwhile, and you get 8GB RAM, a 5G chipset, an FHD+ 120Hz display, and a 50MP Sony LYT-600 camera with an ultrawide.

That leaves the X6e in a slightly awkward spot. It fixes plenty of the X6d’s weaknesses, but the Helio G81 Ultra and unchanged cameras make it hard to call a clear upgrade. But I think it does make sense, as “e” usually means cutback, not an upgrade.
