Nothing Phone (4b) Expected to Launch in Nepal: Fresh Start or (4a) Lite in Disguise?

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Nothing Phone (4b) price in Nepal could be Rs. 45,999 for the 8/128GB variant.
  • The phone runs on the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 and comes with a total of 5 Glyph LEDs.
  • It features the largest battery in a Nothing phone to date, measuring 5,200mAh.

Nothing recently added the Nothing Phone (4b) to the Phone (4) roster. And it is the first time we are seeing a “b” variant in Nothing’s lineup. Up until now, Nothing has always kept to two series each year, and both have done exceptionally well in terms of design and specs.

So with this new addition, questions naturally arise. Where does it sit in the lineup? Will there be a Phone (4b) Pro? And more importantly, what does the “b” even stand for?

From the looks of it, it clearly means budget. But with current pricing trends, even budget phones tend to feel semi-premium by the time they enter Nepal. So let’s see what Nothing has put on its price tag here.

When talking about budget smartphones from Nothing, there have really only been two in the market. One is the CMF Phone series, which technically became an independent subsidiary last year. Then there is the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite, which is essentially a CMF Phone 2 Pro minus the telephoto lens with a Nothing-style makeover.

And now there is the Nothing Phone (4b), which I think arrived at a perfect time. Here is why. Both the Nothing Phone (2a) and (3a) launched at somewhat semi-premium prices. But with the recent price hike pushing the (4a) into premium territory, the Phone (4b) seems perfectly positioned to slide into the semi-premium segment that the (4a) used to occupy.

Well, enough speculation. Let’s get into the overview.

Nothing Phone (4b) Overview

The Nothing Phone (4b) looks nothing like its bigger sibling, the Phone (4a). Then again, it is a new series, so design changes are natural. As for what it actually looks like, the Phone (4b) feels like a mix of everything Nothing has done so far.

It has a camera plateau like the Phone (4a) Pro, and within that plateau sits the iconic transparent design with a Glyph Bar similar to the Phone (4a) but with two fewer white LEDs. The camera module itself looks similar to the Phone (3a) Lite or the CMF Phone 2 Pro, but with just two cameras. The button arrangement also mirrors the (4a) series, with the volume rocker and power button on the right and the Essential Key on the left.

And in classic Nothing fashion, the Phone (4b) comes in a unique Blue color alongside the standard Black and White. I was hoping for something more extravagant like the Pink on the (4a), but Blue is the only vibrant option this time around.

Being a budget phone, both the frame and back are plastic. But what is genuinely impressive is the stereo speaker setup. The Phone (4b) has speakers on both the bottom and the top. So when you are watching content on the 6.77-inch AMOLED screen, you are getting a proper audio and visual experience together.

The resolution is FHD+, which is perfect for everyday and casual use. For protection, there is no Gorilla Glass level coverage, but the Phone (4b) does come with Dragontail Pro, which apparently is roughly equivalent to Gorilla Glass 5 in terms of scratch and drop resistance.

The bezels could be the one area that disappoints slightly on the display front. They are not as uniform as what we have seen on even Nothing’s most budget phones like the (3a) Lite. But honestly, given that we are still getting an FHD+ AMOLED on a phone at this price, a bit of unevenness in the bezels is something I can live with.

On the performance side, the Phone (4b) runs the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset. The SoC performs similarly to the Dimensity 7300 Pro found on the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite. Which honestly got me thinking, why not just call this the Phone (4a) Lite?

Anyway, the phone ships with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage, though the 256GB variant appears to be India-exclusive. So, like with other global variants, Nepal will likely only see the 8/128GB option.

In previous years, what made phones like the CMF Phone 2 Pro and Nothing Phone (3a) special was the inclusion of a telephoto lens, something no other brand in this segment had tried. Sadly, the Phone (4b) plays it safe with a pretty standard camera setup.

There is a 50MP main sensor with OIS, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 16MP front-facing selfie shooter. In good lighting, all three should produce decent shots. But I would not bet my money on the low-light performance.

Powering everything is a 5,200mAh battery with 33W wired charging. The battery is not bad, but with 6,000mAh or more becoming the new normal, anything close to 5,000mAh feels underwhelming these days.

Interestingly, Nothing did offer a 6,000mAh battery for the Indian variant, which would make the Phone (4b) the only Nothing phone with a battery that big. But the global variant, and likely the Nepal variant, gets the smaller 5,200mAh unit. That said, it is still larger than most Nothing phones have historically offered.

Lastly, the software, which is always Nothing’s ace up its sleeve. The Phone (4b) ships with Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16. Like every other Nothing phone, the experience is minimal, clean, and genuinely pleasant to use. It offers the same 3 years of OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches as its bigger sibling, the Phone (4a). Given the budget positioning, 3 years of OS support feels just right.

Nothing Phone (4b) Price in Nepal: Rs. 45,999 (8/128GB) [Expected]

The Nothing Phone (4b) arrived exactly at the right time. With the (4a) now firmly in premium territory, there was a clear gap for a more accessible Nothing experience, and the (4b) fills that gap reasonably well.

The stereo speakers, FHD+ AMOLED display, and clean Nothing OS are all genuinely great additions at this price. And the design, while borrowing from across the Nothing lineup, still manages to feel distinctly Nothing.

If Nothing prices it right in Nepal at around Rs. 45,999, it will find its audience easily. At anything higher, buyers will start looking elsewhere. For instance, the Infinix Note 60 runs a similar setup in terms of raw power but with a better display, bigger battery, and wireless charging.

For me, the Phone (4b) is a phone I would recommend to someone who wants the Nothing experience on a budget, but not necessarily to someone who wants the best value for money in this segment overall.
