Nothing Phone 2a Set to Launch in Nepalese Market Soon

On the 5th of March 2024, Nothing hosted the ‘Fresh Eyes’ event where they launched the Nothing 2a smartphone on the global market. The smartphone is set to hit Nepalese store shelves soon.

Nothing has managed to bring its unique eye-catching design element on a much more affordable device and call it the Nothing Phone 2a. The phone comes with a MediaTek Dimensity processor, an AMOLED display, dual cameras, and a 5000mAh battery.

Nothing Phone 2a Overview

Design

Design of the Nothing Phone 2a: the most striking and unique element of this device. It carries over from its much more expensive counterpart, the Nothing Phone 2.

The 2a has an all-transparent back covering the ‘internals’ of the phone. The dual cameras are placed in the center of the top half of the phone while the flash looks like it is floating/circling the camera modules.

Surrounding the camera and the NFC coil is the array of LEDs that Nothing calls its ‘Glyph Lights’. The lights, besides providing a unique aesthetic and flair to the phone, also serve functional purposes like lighting up when you have a notification or flashing in tandem when your phone receives a call.

Other elements of the phone such as the power buttons and the volume buttons are placed opposite of each other much like in an iPhone. Lastly, the Type-C USB charging port and the SIM card tray can be found on the bottom of the Nothing Phone 2a. The device is rated IP54 splash and dust-resistant.

While implementing the same design language as the Nothing Phone 2, the Nothing Phone 2a does take some cost-cutting measures that help reduce its price. For example, the transparent back of the device is made of much cheaper plastic material instead of glass. The Glyph Lights are also fewer when compared to the Nothing Phone and the Nothing Phone 2.

Display

The Nothing Phone 2a features a 6.7-inch AMOLED 10-bit display with a hole punch cutout for the selfie camera. The display has a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The display reaches a typical max brightness of 700nits, an HBM of 1100nits, and a peak brightness of 1300nits. Additionally, it supports HDR10+, has an under-display fingerprint sensor, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

Hardware

A MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro acts as the brain of the Nothing Phone 2a. The octa-core CPU consists of 2x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 high-performance cores and 6x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A510 efficiency cores. Handling the graphics of the device is a Mali G610 GPU. All this is cooled by an included vapor chamber inside the phone.

For memory, the Nothing Phone 2a comes in either 8 or 12GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of non-expandable storage. The models we’ll be getting here in Nepal have not yet been confirmed but will be updated once the official news comes out.

Other hardware features of the phone include Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6 support, NFC, and dual-stereo speakers.

Cameras

The Nothing Phone 2a features dual rear cameras: one main camera and one ultrawide camera. The main camera is a 50MP, f/1.88 lens that has OIS, EIS, and PDAF whereas the ultrawide camera is also a 50MP snapper but with an aperture of f/2.2 and a 114° field of view. The included selfie camera of the device is a 32MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.2.

The rear camera can shoot videos up to 4K resolution at 30 frames per second whereas the front selfie camera can record videos up to 1080p at 60fps.

Battery and OS

Like most smartphones in the market, the Nothing Phone 2a also comes with a 5000mAh non-removable rechargeable battery.

The phone charges through the USB-C port with support for 45W fast charging. Nothing claims the battery of the 2a can charge from 0 to 100% under an hour.

Out of the box, the Nothing Phone 2a comes with the Android 14 operating system with Nothing’s custom Nothing OS 2.5.4 skin applied on top.

Nothing Phone 2a Price in Nepal and Availability

By looking at prices on the Indian market, the Nothing Phone 2a price in Nepal is expected to start from Rs. 39,000. Once launched, the phone will be available for purchase in retail as well as online stores.

The Nothing Phone 2a stands out as a much more affordable device when compared to the Nothing Phone 1 and the Nothing Phone 2. The 2a features Nothing’s signature transparent design with Glyph Lights. Surrounded by a flat metal frame, the phone comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro processor, dual 50MP cameras, a 120Hz AMOLED display, and a 5000mAh battery.
