Samsung unveiled its 2020 Galaxy Note lineup. There are two models this year: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
And hey, Samsung Nepal has already started taking pre-booking of Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in Nepal. Regarding price, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra price in Nepal is Rs. 1,39,999 (8/256GB) and the pre-booking is open from 12th August to 28th August 2020.
There are some attractive offers with pre-booking such as Galaxy Buds+ for free or Galaxy Watch 3 (45mm) at NPR. 29,999 (discounted price), Galaxy Watch 3 (41mm) at NPR. 27,999 (discounted price), and Samsung LED TV (32-inch) at NPR. 8,999.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the beefiest Galaxy ever and this year, there’s a huge difference between regular Note and it’s Ultra version. Like the S20 series, Samsung is making the Ultra moniker to be its top tier flagship. And, this is much more evident in the new Note 20 series.
The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features much more than the Note 20. It makes the Note 20 look much inferior to it than it should be. Why is it so? Let’s take a look!

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Overview
Design
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a glass back with a satin finish unlike Note 20’s polycarbonate back. The frame is still aluminum on both devices though. Also, Note 20 Ultra’s back panel is protected by the all-new Gorilla Glass Victus which is supposed to be two times more scratch-resistant than the Gorilla Glass 6.
It is available in three colors: Mystic Gray, Mystic Green, and Mystic Bronze. The new color schemes definitely feel refreshing. Then, the rear camera module is now more pronounced. It looks big, and the camera sensors look more like iPhone 11’s.
Either way, this design looks more bold, sleek, and elegant at the same time than the S20 series.
Display
Samsung Note 20 Ultra is a big phone and it comes with a big 6.9 inches Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. This is supposed to improve outdoor visibility by 25% over the previous panels. And, just like the rear panel, the display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus which is not available on Note 20.
Unlike the FHD panel on the Note 20, the Note 20 Ultra has a QHD display. So, it’s resolution is 1440 x 3088 pixels and has an impressive 92.5% screen-to-body ratio.
Furthermore, it supports 120Hz@1080p but there’s no support for a high refresh rate at QHD. Samsung fans have to take this with a pinch of salt as cheaper phones already drive 120Hz support at 1440p.
Hardware
There were rumors that Samsung might ditch the Snapdragon processors completely on the Note 20 series. But, thankfully that was just a rumor as the Note 20 Ultra comes with Snapdragon 865+. However, it is limited to the US, Korea, and, China. The rest of the world is getting the same Exynos 990 chipset used on the S20 series.
Exynos chipsets have been consistently proven to be behind its counterpart Snapdragon processors. And, there were talks that Samsung would tweak the SoC to improve its performance. But, Samsung didn’t mention a single thing about it during the Unpacked Event. So, I guess we have to wait and see till we get our hands on the device.
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB LPDDR5 RAM. It also has expandable storage up to 1TB with MicroSD which is not available on the Note 20.
S-Pen
Where we see the most improvement is the S-Pen. The most important improvement is the latency as it’s been reduced from 42ms to 9ms on the Note 20 Ultra. Whereas, the latency on the Note 20 is 26ms.
To add to that, the S-Pen works more fluently on the 120Hz display of Note 20 Ultra. So, yeah! Note 20 Ultra makes Note 20 look like a baby.
Some of the other new features are the new gestures. Pointing the pen tip away from your body (and at a distance from the phone), press and hold the stylus button while making one of five new gestures to go back, go home, open a recent app or take a screenshot with Smart Select.
Project xCloud
Samsung has partnered with Microsoft to bring Microsoft’s xCloud game streaming service. It will be free for 3 months to Note 20 Ultra users. This will enable Note 20 Ultra owners to enjoy Xbox One and Xbox Series X games on their device.
Samsung Note 20 Ultra will be available with a specific Xbox Game Pass offering, with an Ultimate-tier subscription included with device pre-orders. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Bundle includes the device alongside a three-month subscription and a Note20-compatible MOGA XP5-X Bluetooth gaming controller.
Along with this, Samsung Dex is now fully wireless and you can use it with anything that supports screen mirroring.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a triple camera setup on the rear with a 108MP, f/1.8, 26mm (wide) primary sensor with OIS & Laser AF. The S20 Ultra suffered focus problems, so the new laser AF is there to correct that problem. The sensor seems to be the same sensor as the S20 Ultra but with some optimizations.
Then there’s a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 12MP f/3.0 periscope telephoto lens that enables 5X optical zoom and up to 50x hybrid zoom. Only the ultrawide-angle sensor is similar between the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
Upfront, it has a 10MP sensor for selfies.

You can record videos up to 8k 24fps from the rear camera. Whereas the front camera can record up to 4k 60 fps videos.
Battery
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a 4500 mAh battery which is 200mAh more than the Note 20 but S20 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery. Also, it only has 25W fast charging with USB-PD 3. Samsung doesn’t say if it supports the 45W fast charging like the S20 Ultra.
While other manufacturers like Oppo provide up to 65W fast charging on their flagships Samsung is still stuck with 25W fast charging. This is quite disappointing.
Furthermore, it has One UI 2.1 on top of Android 10.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is an ultra-premium phone. I am digging the new bronze color with satin finish. But, I am disappointed that it still doesn’t support 120Hz at QHD. Then, there’s the Exynos 990 on the global version.
Well, there seems to be an improvement in the camera department. And, I am looking forward to testing the new S-Pen as well.
