After months of anticipation, BYD Nepal has finally launched the Seagull at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2025. And interestingly, it will be called the ‘Atto 1’ as part of BYD’s plan to expand its Atto lineup, with the Atto 2 also expected to hit the Nepali market.

Cimex, the authorized distributor of BYD vehicles in Nepal, has introduced its most affordable electric vehicle for the market, the BYD Seagull, a.k.a. the Atto 1.

And, like the Seal, Atto 3, and Dolphin, the Atto 1 is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0. This means it carries over a certain level of efficiency, safety, aesthetics, intelligence, and passenger comfort that BYD vehicles are known for in Nepal. However, given its price point and market segment, it naturally comes with a few compromises, which is something that is to be expected when aiming for affordability without completely sacrificing quality.

Beyond its specifications, the Atto 1 is a significant launch for Nepal. Yes, it does expand BYD’s lineup, but the segment it enters is quite important too. In the past, BYD played a key role in shaping the e-SUV market here, especially when the Atto 3 set new standards for what consumers could expect.

Similarly, the Atto 1 is looking to shake things up in the compact city EV scene, aiming to set a fresh narrative and help push the segment into the mainstream. Interestingly, its global sibling, the BYD Seagull (Dolphin Mini), has already made waves by winning in the “World Urban Car 2025” category at the World Car Awards.

And like any BYD vehicle in Nepal, it is backed by the standard 10-year warranty that covers both the battery pack and the electric motor.

Now, let’s have a look at the key specs of BYD Atto 1 in Nepal for 2025.

BYD Atto 1 Overview

Exterior

BYD Atto 1 is a compact hatchback that follows the same design philosophy we’ve seen in most BYD models in Nepal, what the brand calls its “Dragon Face 3.0.” At first glance, it comes across as compact yet confident, blending a city-friendly footprint with subtle SUV-inspired touches. The slightly raised ground clearance gives it a “crossover-lite” character, making it feel a bit more adventurous than your typical hatchback.

Up front, the Seagull features a closed grille framed by sharp LED Headlights with integrated DRLs. And, the headlight design is said to mimic a seagull’s wings in flight, which feels fitting for the name. The lower bumper gets functional air intakes outlined by black cladding, adding a bit of contrast and breaking up the body-colored surfaces.

The bonnet is short and neatly sculpted, and the entire front end looks like it has been shaped with aerodynamics in mind. Overall, the nose feels clean and very much in line with modern EV styling norms.

Move to the side, and the design becomes a bit sportier. With a 2500 mm wheelbase, the proportions feel balanced for its size. It rides on 16-inch Alloy Wheels, and the ground clearance has been raised compared to the global version to make it better suited for Nepali roads.

The rising beltline gently tapers toward the rear, creating a wedge-shaped profile, but it does allow some space so that the C-pillar is visually separated. Furthermore, just like the front, there is a subtle contrasting trimming element, which helps break the monotony of the body color, on the side as well.

At the back, the Seagull keeps things simple but distinctive. The boxy rear shape is highlighted by LED taillights that run across the width of the car, giving it a slightly premium edge.

Additionally, for Nepal, the Seagull will be offered in four colors, i.e., Blue, White, Black, and Green.

Interior

Globally, the BYD ATTO 1 also goes by the name Dolphin Mini in some markets, and once you step inside, you can see why. Many elements, such as the steering wheel, button layout, drive selector, and instrument cluster, look and feel similar to the BYD Dolphin.

While the cabin design remains largely the same across both variants, there are a few key differences in features. The seats are wrapped in Synthetic Leather and do feel good in both variants, but the driver’s seat gets 6-way Power Adjustment in the Premium model, while the Dynamic version has a 4-way Manual Setup. However, the front passenger seat in both variants offers 4-way manual adjustment.

Moreover, the steering column also sees a difference. In the Dynamic trim, it adjusts in two ways, while the Premium gets a more versatile 4-way adjustment.

Beyond these mechanical differences, the Premium further adds other features like Wireless Phone Charging and One-Touch Up/Down functionality with Anti-Pinch for the driver’s window Dynamic.

But, aside from these differences, the cabin experience feels consistent between the two.

In Atto 1, the choice of materials reflects its positioning as an affordable EV, and honestly, it feels modest at best. You’ll notice plenty of hard plastics that give off a scratchy texture, but that’s not the whole story. BYD has mixed in some soft-touch materials too, and surprisingly, the rear section feels better in terms of touch and quality than the front. Up front, you are not really meant to expect much in the way of luxury; instead, BYD focuses on delivering a more driver-friendly layout and better ergonomics, which is exactly where it wants your attention to be.

The dashboard is centered around a 10.1-inch Rotating Touchscreen that handles Infotainment duties and supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In front of the driver, a 7-inch Digital Instrument Cluster displays all the key driving information.

Performance

As we have established already, the BYD Atto 1 comes in two variants. Both of these variants come equipped with a 45 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), generating a max power of 61 PS but a max torque of 135 Nm.

The battery capacities are where these two variants truly differ. The first one, i.e., the Base variant, i.e., the Dynamic variant comes with a 30.08 kWh battery that supports a WLTP-claimed 230 km of range, while the top-variant, i.e., the Premium variant, comes with a 38.88 kWh Blade battery pack that provides a 300 Km of WLTP claimed range.

The Dynamic variant, which comes with a 30.08 kWh battery pack, takes about 5 hours to fully charge from empty using a 6.6 kW AC charger. Step up to the Premium variant with its larger 38.88 kWh battery pack, and a full charge under the same conditions will take roughly 6 hours and 30 minutes.

On top of that, both variants support DC fast charging, with max 30 kW support for the Dynamic and max 40 kW support for the Premium variant. With DC charging, you can expect the battery to go from 20% to 80% SOC in around 40 minutes on average.

Furthermore, it can reach a top speed of 130 Km/h and accelerates from 0 to 50 Kmph in just 5.5 seconds.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut and Torsion Beam handle the suspension duties.

The Atto 1 measures 3925 mm in length, 1720 mm in width, and 1,590 mm in height, while riding on a 2500 mm wheelbase.

Interestingly, if we look at the Seagull in the international market, it comes in slightly more compact at 3780 mm in length, 1715 mm in width, and 1540 mm in height, yet it still shares the exact same wheelbase. I am not trying to dig into why that is, but those are the figures as they stand. After all, one is the Atto 1 and the other is the Seagull, so they are not exactly the same.

The ground clearance for the Atto 1 is 175 mm. And, the kerb weight sits at 1225 kg to 1280 kg, depending on the variant.

Also, the boot space is 230-liters, expandable up to 930-liters.

And, since the Atto 1 has been launched in Nepal at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2025, interested individuals can visit their nearest BYD Showroom for additional information.

The following table lists the BYD Seagull Atto 1 price in Nepal for 2025.

BYD Seagull Atto 1 Price in Nepal

Premium – 38.88 kWh Battery Pack Rs. 3299000

Rival

The competition facing the BYD Atto 1 is one of the most intriguing in the Nepali EV market. It will go head-to-head with the Tata Tiago EV and the Dongfeng Nammi 01, compete to some extent with the Leapmotor T03 and eQute 04, and, to a lesser degree, contend with the MG Comet EV and Henrey Volts Model H.

Focusing on its strongest competitors, the Tata Tiago EV has established itself as a bestseller in Nepal. Tata’s strong reputation, widespread service network, and the fact that the Tiago EV is a decent car to drive make it an attractive choice for many buyers. However, its range and feature set leave much to be desired. On top of that, the NMC battery pack it uses often gets highlighted as one of its shortcomings.

The Dongfeng Nammi 01, on the other hand, has also performed well in Nepal, winning over buyers who are looking for a solid value-for-money option. Its peppy 70 kW motor paired with a 42 kWh LFP Battery in top variants reportedly delivers around 300 kilometers of range. The car is feature-rich as well, which earned it the prestigious TechLekh Awards 2024.

When compared directly, the Atto 1 easily surpasses the Tiago EV. While its top variant is slightly pricier, the value you get makes it a strong proposition. At the same time, the Atto 1 matches the Nammi 01 in terms of performance. There is an old saying: if something is working, don’t fix it. The Nammi 01 was performing exceptionally well in the Nepali market, achieving hundreds of sales units. However, amid speculations about tax changes, Dongfeng Nepal made a small adjustment to the motor power, reducing it to 49.5 kW, not to 50 kW but 49.5 kW.

While this may seem minor, it eliminated a potential advantage Nammi 01 held over the Atto 1. Feature-wise, the Nammi 01 still has a slight edge, but price plays a significant role. The top Nammi 01 variant, with its bigger battery and full feature set, costs slightly more than the Atto 1.

Additionally, BYD’s warranty outshines what Dongfeng Nepal currently offers. It remains to be seen how the Atto 1 performs over the long run, but early signs are promising. The aggressive booking numbers at the NAIMA Mobility Expo 2025 already hint at strong market interest and suggest that the Atto 1 could make a significant impact in Nepal’s EV segment.
