The MG Windsor EV is expected to launch in Nepal.
Paramount Motors, the official distributor of MG Motors in Nepal, plans to expand its lineup with the MG Windsor EV, a Compact Utility Vehicle designed for comfortable urban commutes.
The Windsor EV is a rebranded version of the Baojun Cloud, a car manufactured by the Chinese brand Baojun.
Baojun operates under SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile, a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and SAIC Motor.
Launched in India in September 2024, the MG Windsor EV brings the Baojun Cloud to the Indian market under a new name, branding and few updates.
It has been well received by Indian consumers as a nicely built and well-thought EV. Moreover, MG addresses one of the most pressing concerns of electric vehicles with the Windsor which is the Battery Replacement.
In India, the Windsor EV introduces an innovative “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) model.
This approach reduces the upfront cost of EV ownership by separating the battery cost from the vehicle price.
Consumers can pay based on their usage, calculated per kilometer traveled.
While this concept may not revolutionize the EV market, it is a strategic move to attract attention and build trust among EV enthusiasts, particularly in price-sensitive markets like India.
Nepal shares a similar market dynamic, making the Windsor a promising addition to MG’s portfolio in the country.
MG Nepal is exploring the possibility of bringing the Windsor EV to Nepal. However, it remains uncertain if the BaaS model will accompany its launch.
Regardless, the Windsor’s entry could strengthen MG Nepal’s lineup as EVs increasingly gain mainstream popularity in the region.

MG Windsor EV Overview
Design
The MG Windsor EV is a Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) designed to stand out with its fresh, dynamic styling.
Its exterior features a unique design that might divide opinions but exudes a distinct European flair, reminiscent of French automakers like Peugeot, Renault, and Citroën.
At the front, the Windsor showcases a bold, slanting fascia with sleek connected LED DRLs. The LED Projector Headlamps are positioned lower.
Subtle chrome and blacked-out accents accentuate its dynamic profile from the side. Designers placed the charging port conveniently on the front left.
Depending on the variant, the Windsor rides on either 17-inch Steel Wheels or 18-inch Diamond-cut Alloy Wheels.
The rear design contrasts the front’s sloping theme with a flat, angular finish. However, it maintains the connected lighting aesthetic through a slim LED strip linking the taillights, echoing the design language of the front LEDs.
Inside, the Windsor impresses with ample space and thoughtful touches. Depending on the variant, the seats are available in either fabric or leatherette upholstery.
The dashboard features a large 15.6-inch Infotainment Screen in the Essence and Executive variants, while the Excite variant includes a more compact 10.1-inch Display.
The minimalist interior design centralizes most controls on the touchscreen, reducing physical buttons. However, the two-spoke Steering Wheel retains physical controls for essential HVAC functions.
The Essence variant offers a premium experience with a Glass Roof and an Infinity 9-speaker sound system, while the Executive and Excite variants include a 6-speaker audio setup.
Additionally, MG Windsor EV is available in Clay Beige, Pearl White, Starburst Black, Turquoise Green colors.

MG Windsor EV will likely compete against the BYD Dolphin.
The Windsor EV holds an advantage in raw performance with its larger 100 kW motor compared to the BYD Dolphin’s 70 kW motor.
The Windsor’s more powerful motor enables it to handle steep terrains and intercity travel with ease, proving it is built for more than just city commutes.
However, the Windsor’s smaller 38 kWh battery pack undermines its performance edge when compared to the Dolphin’s larger 44.9 kWh pack.
The Dolphin’s motor is well-suited to manage various terrains while offering greater range, thanks to its larger battery.
While the Windsor EV does feature slightly higher ground clearance than the Dolphin, the difference is negligible and unlikely to sway most buyers.
Ultimately, pricing will play a decisive role. The BYD Dolphin price in Nepal is Rs. 41.15 Lakhs in Nepal for 2024. Whether the Windsor EV can be priced competitively enough to compensate for its shortcomings remains to be seen.
