The Benco V91c is a typical entry-level smartphone. Its UNISOC T606 chipset and 4GB of RAM are fairly standard for this price range. What makes it stand out, however, is the 128GB of storage, a capacity that usually only appears in phones priced at Rs. 13,000 or higher.

That said, the phone still runs on Android 13, which is a significant drawback in 2026 and a major reason why it’s hard to recommend. Still, for what it is, the UNISOC T606 and 4GB RAM provide solid performance for basic tasks.

Possible Alternatives

Latest phones like the Ai+ Pulse and ZTE Nubia A36 offer much better value in this segment.

The Ai+ Pulse is a relatively new device that runs on the UNISOC T615, a far better chipset compared to what’s used in the Benco V91c. On top of that, it comes in as one of the cheapest smartphones available, making it a strong contender for budget-conscious buyers.

Speaking of affordability, the ZTE Nubia A36 is also a noteworthy rival. Its specs aren’t the best in the segment, but what makes it stand out is the highly attractive price, especially with the 0% EMI option, making it easy to own without a high upfront cost.

Should You Buy?

The Benco V90 Plus was a solid success at the Rs. 10,000 price point. But with its successor, the V91 Plus, things aren’t as straightforward.

On paper, the V91 Plus does bring some noticeable upgrades. You get a 50MP main camera and higher storage options, 6GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, which is impressive. In fact, it’s currently the only phone around Rs. 18,000 to offer 256GB of internal storage, and that’s a genuine plus. That said, Benco didn’t upgrade much in the areas that actually matter.

The phone still runs on the same UNISOC T606 processor, comes with the same display, and even the battery capacity remains unchanged. Yes, the 18W charging was impressive back when the V90 Plus launched at a lower price, but at this price, it no longer stands out, especially when rivals are offering 45W fast charging.

And with all these compromises, the alternatives in this price segment simply look more compelling, making the V91 Plus a much harder recommendation than its predecessor.

Possible Alternatives

At the price of the Benco V91 Plus, phones like the Ai+ Nova, Infinix Hot 60i, and Samsung Galaxy A07 simply make a lot more sense.

Starting with the Ai+ Nova, it runs on the UNISOC T8200, which is a 5G chipset. Performance is significantly faster than what you get on the V91 Plus. The display resolution is still HD+, but it comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, so day-to-day usage feels smooth. The camera setup is also better and can record 4K at 30FPS, which is rare at this price. The main downside here is 10W charging, which takes quite a while to top up the 5,000mAh battery.

Then there’s the Infinix Hot 60i. It runs on the Helio G81, which isn’t the fastest SoC in this category, but Infinix makes up for it elsewhere. You get a 120Hz display, a camera capable of 2K video recording, and most importantly, 45W fast charging, which really helps it stand out in this segment.

Finally, if raw performance is what you’re after, the Samsung Galaxy A07 takes the win with the Helio G99. It’s still the go-to chipset if you want a solid-performing 4G processor. On top of that, you get Samsung’s clean UI and an impressive 6 years of OS updates. The only real downside is the base variant. At Rs. 16,000, it comes with just 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, which feels limiting in 2025.

Should You Buy?

The specs on the Benco V91 are actually quite decent for the price. You get an HD+ display, the UNISOC T606, and even a triple camera setup. One of the biggest highlights is that the higher variant comes with 8GB of RAM, which is still pretty rare at this price point.

However, what really holds the phone back is the software. The V91 ships with Android 13, and with Android 16 already rolling out for a couple of months now, this feels significantly outdated. On top of that, being a budget phone, there’s no clear software update policy, which makes the long-term experience questionable.

So while the hardware looks fine on paper, the outdated software and lack of update support are major drawbacks that are hard to ignore.

Possible Alternatives

At this price, the Redmi A5, especially the 4GB/128GB variant, makes a lot more sense.

For starters, A5’s UNISOC T7250 is a noticeably faster chipset than the T606 used on the Benco V91. You also get a better camera setup and a much smoother display, making everyday use feel more refined. But what really seals the deal for the Redmi A5 is the software; it ships with Android 15. Sure, it’s not the latest Android 16, but it’s still a massive improvement over the Android 13 found on the V91.

Then there’s the Tecno Spark Go 2, which costs about the same as the Redmi A5 and interestingly uses the same processor. What gives it a slight edge, though, is the IP64 rating. For a budget phone, that’s a genuinely nice bonus. On top of that, Tecno also offers a FreeLink feature, which reportedly allows you to make calls and send messages even when there’s no cellular reception or internet connection, a surprisingly useful feature, especially in areas with weak network coverage.

The Benco S1 is a fairly old phone, having launched back in early 2023, and it shows, both in terms of design and raw specs.

Should You Buy?

Considering it’s an entry-level phone, it’s quite impressive that Benco managed to offer the S1 with 6GB and even 8GB RAM options. If you look at the competition, most phones still ship with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and stepping up to 6GB or more usually means paying extra.

The camera setup is also decent, at least on paper. You get a 48MP main camera paired with a 16MP selfie shooter, which is respectable for this segment. Unfortunately, the phone does take a hit in the performance department due to the UNISOC T606. That said, with the better memory options and usable camera setup, some compromises were inevitable.

Another major drawback is the software. The phone boots on Android 13, which immediately puts it at a disadvantage against the competition, a point we’ll get into shortly.

Possible Alternatives

First up is the Redmi A5, which runs on the faster UNISOC T7250 chipset. What really makes it stand out, though, is the 120Hz refresh rate panel with 8-bit color depth, offering a noticeably smoother and more vibrant viewing experience. That said, it only comes with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, which falls behind the Benco S1’s higher RAM options, making multitasking a bit more limited.

Next is the Honor Play10, which comes equipped with the Helio G81. The processor alone gives the Play10 a significant performance advantage over most phones in this segment. On top of that, it supports Carrier Video Calling, allowing you to video call contacts directly via your SIM card without Wi-Fi, provided the recipient has the feature enabled. All of this makes the Play10 an excellent value-for-money option. The only real drawback is the 10W charging, where some competitors pull ahead.

Finally, if budget is the priority, the ZTE Nubia A56 is worth considering. Specs-wise, it doesn’t compete with the Play10 or Redmi A5, it’s actually weaker in performance, but it does offer a 0% EMI option, making it an attractive choice for users looking to spread payments without extra cost.

Unfortunately, the S1 Pro doesn’t have that unique edge, making it hard to recommend compared to other options in the same range.

Possible Alternatives

Alternatives like the Moto G35, HMD Crest, and Infinix Hot 50 Pro offer features that make them significantly better options in some areas.

For instance, the Moto G35 comes with an ultra-wide lens, which is rare at this price point and great for capturing wider shots. The downside is that it only has 4GB RAM, which feels low compared to the 8GB on the Benco S1 Pro.

The HMD Crest won hearts by offering an OLED display under Rs. 20,000, giving a rich, vibrant viewing experience. However, it struggles in the camera department, so it’s less ideal for photography enthusiasts.

However, there is one thing that Becno S1 Plus does better, and that’s a higher memory specification of 8/256GB. But then again, it’s an old phone that launched all the way back in mid 2024, so it boots on Android 13. And it’s also hard to recommend when alternatives are newer and offer better specs.

Possible Alternatives

The Benco S1 Plus, much like the S1 Pro, competes with phones such as the Moto G35, HMD Crest, and Infinix Hot 50 Pro, many of which offer better value in certain areas.

For instance, the Moto G35 stands out with its ultra-wide camera, 120Hz refresh rate screen, and clean UI. Then there’s the HMD Crest, which impresses with an OLED panel, a rare feature under Rs. 19,999. Of course, both phones have their trade-offs: the Moto G35 only comes with 4GB RAM, which is half of what the S1 Plus offers, while the HMD Crest struggles in the camera department.

For a more balanced option, the Infinix Hot 50 Pro is a solid all-rounder. It features an AMOLED FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a decent 4G chipset, and overall good performance and design, making it a strong alternative to the S1 Plus.
