The Hero Xtreme 160R has always been a solid product. The shift from a 2-valve, air-cooled setup to a 4-valve, oil-cooled engine has further improved its performance. Along with this, the all-LED lighting, petal disc brakes, KYB USD fork, and 130-section rear radial tyre strike a good balance between performance and style. With the latest OBD-II update adding a single-seat layout, Dual-channel ABS, and an updated LED taillight as standard, the Xtreme 160R now presents itself as a stronger overall value package.

Despite its value-focused positioning, the Xtreme 160R has not achieved the same success as the newer Xtreme 125R. While both aim to offer feature-rich packages, the 160R has not fully realised its potential. This is partly due to limited top-end performance for highway cruising, a drawback shared by most motorcycles in the 150–160cc segment. Its polarising rear design also works against it, still feeling awkward and out of place even after years on sale. More importantly, the bike does not make the best use of its strengths. Rather than focusing on headline features to stand out on paper, Hero could have developed a more well-rounded segment benchmark. The Hero Splendor Plus carries a familiar and widely recognisable design that has changed little over the years. Even so, the design still resonates with buyers who prefer clean, uncomplicated commuter motorcycles over modern, aggressive styling. What has changed is the engine. The Splendor Plus now features a BS6-compliant fuel-injected motor, along with additions such as OBD II compliance, a Side-stand Engine Cut-Off, and a USB Charging Port. There is no noticeable improvement in performance, but fuel efficiency should improve further. Importantly, Hero has left the chassis, dynamics, and ergonomics untouched, allowing the bike to retain its lightweight, nimble nature and easy daily usability.
