The new MacBook Air 2022, powered by the new Apple M2 Chip — which debuted earlier this month in Nepal along with the new M2-powered 13-inch MacBook Pro — now comes with 1-year breakage insurance.

The Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022) price in Nepal starts at Rs. 1,99,000 for the base model with 8-core GPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB SSD. It is available for purchase at the online store Daraz Nepal and Apple authorised distributor Generation Next and reseller EvoStore.

Apple, at its WWDC 2022 on June 6, unveiled a completely redesigned MacBook Air powered by the new M2 chip. In addition, it also updated 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple MacBook Air M2 Overview

Design

The new MacBook Air 2022 sports a redesigned all-aluminum unibody enclosure that is even lighter and slimmer than the previous model. It drops the wedge shape and adopts the design from last year’s MacBook Pro 14 and 16-inch.

It is only 11.3mm thick and weighs 1.24kg. In addition to silver and space gray, MacBook Air now comes in two more finishes, midnight and starlight.

The MacBook Air M2 brings back the beloved MagSafe (MagSafe 3) — Apple’s magnetised charging port to protect against accidental pull — which was last seen on the 2017 MacBook Air. Moreover, it has two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a 3.5mm audio jack with support for high-impedance headphones.

Like last year, it still is a fanless design and has a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a Forch Touch trackpad.

Display

The 2022 MacBook Air features a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display (IPS LCD). The display now has a notch and the bezels are also thinner than before.

It can reach up to 500 nits of brightness, which is 25% higher than the 2020 MacBook Air. The panel has a resolution of 2560 x 1664 pixels and now supports 1 billion colours.

Hardware

The new MacBook Air is one of the first MacBooks to be powered by the second generation of Apple’s M series chip, the M2 chip. The M2 chip is an SoC built on a 5nm technology and has over 20 billion transistors, which is 25 percent more than M1.

The increased transistors allow the M2 to have a 100GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, which is 50% more than M1. The M2 features an 8-core CPU (4 performance and 4 efficiency cores) and 8- or 10-core GPU. The MacBook Air 2020 only had an 8-core GPU.

In addition, Apple says M2 features a next-generation media engine and a powerful ProRes video engine for hardware-accelerated encode and decode, allowing systems with M2 to play back more streams of 4K and 8K video than before.

Users can also configure the MacBook Air to have 8GB, 16GB, or 24GB of unified memory and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB of SSD. And finally, Apple has upgraded the webcam to include a 1080p FaceTime HD camera.

Apple has cleverly integrated a four-speaker setup and a three-mic array between the keyboard and display.

Battery

The MacBook Air M2 comes with a 52.6Wh battery. Apple claims that it gives up to 18 hours of video playback.

The base model comes with a 30W power adapter while the 10-core GPU with 512GB or higher comes with the new 35W dual USB-C port compact power adaptor. The new power adapter has two USB-C ports, which lets users charge two devices at once.

And for the first time, MacBook Air supports 67W fast charging. However, users need to buy the adapter separately. Apple claims the fast charger can charge the MacBook up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
