The ZTE nubia NEO series is the company’s attempt at catering to budget gamers. And ZTE first entered Nepal’s budget gaming smartphone market back in 2025 with the NEO 3 GT. Fast forward to mid-2026, and the company is now preparing to launch the ZTE nubia NEO 5.

For those unfamiliar, the standard NEO series sits right below the more powerful NEO GT lineup. That means the NEO 5 is expected to be slightly less powerful than the ZTE nubia NEO 5 GT, which is also set to launch in Nepal in the coming weeks. But for now, our focus will mainly be on the standard nubia NEO 5.
What is the price of ZTE nubia NEO 5 in Nepal?
The ZTE Nubia NEO 5 has not officially launched in Nepal yet. However, the phone has already been available for a few months in several Southeast Asian markets, including the Philippines.
Based on its international pricing, the ZTE Nubia NEO 5 price in Nepal could land around Rs. 39,999 for the 8/128GB variant. As for availability, ZTE officials say the device is expected to arrive in Nepal sometime this week.
The pricing may seem a bit on the expensive side, but considering the launch price of newer phones and the overall rise in budget smartphone prices lately, we could even see the ZTE Nubia NEO 5 launch at a slightly higher price than expected.
ZTE tried to establish the ZTE nubia NEO 3 GT as a serious budget gaming phone in Nepal. But honestly, I think they picked the wrong battlefield to make that statement.
Why? Because the Rs. 37,000 price range back in 2025 was brutally competitive. You had the CMF Phone 2 Pro offering arguably the best processor and camera setup in the segment. And on the gaming side, the Infinix GT 30 already had the category locked down.
And thanks to the popularity of its bigger sibling, the Infinix GT 30 Pro, most buyers naturally leaned toward the GT 30 instead. So the NEO 3 GT, powered by a UNISOC chipset, ended up falling a little short in comparison.
Now, though, ZTE is taking another shot with the ZTE nubia NEO 5. And while the specs sheet looks a bit confusing at first glance, somehow it still feels oddly convincing for a gaming phone. Here’s why.
ZTE nubia NEO 5 Overview
The ZTE nubia NEO 5 follows the classic NEO design pattern we have seen since the start of the series, the iconic eagle eye with a bit of cyber mecha flair. And honestly, I kind of like it, especially when the eye pattern’s LED lights up.
Continuing with the gaming theme, the pressure-sensitive gaming triggers fit right in. They come with a 550Hz touch sampling rate and less than 5.5ms latency, solid numbers for competitive gaming.

There is also a transparent aesthetic under the octagonal camera cutout, though it is purely decorative. Safe to say, just like any other NEO lineup, the design will definitely turn some heads.
Another thing that will catch attention, especially for gamers, is the 3.5mm headphone jack. For me, that is a must on any gaming phone, and it is always nice to see it make an appearance.
To the front, there is a big 6.8-inch 120Hz display, which is great for a gaming phone. The bezels also look impressively thin, with just a slight chin at the bottom, not a deal breaker by any means.

What could be a deal breaker, though, is the 1940 x 900 pixel resolution. Technically, it qualifies as HD+, but it is only a few pixels short of FHD, so we can give it a slight pass. The pixel density sits at 314PPI, so visuals should still look reasonably crisp.
The only real concern on the display front is the IPS panel. When gaming or consuming media, colors will not pop as much as they would on an AMOLED display.
For audio, there are dual stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra that, according to nubia, deliver 360° audio. Whether that holds up in real use, we will have to wait and find out.
The nubia NEO 5 is powered by the UNISOC T9300, and the NEO 5 and NEO 5 GT are actually the first phones to debut this SoC. That might make it sound like a brand new chip, but it is not. The T9300 actually launched back in November 2025. Why no other smartphone picked it up until now? Honestly, I’m not entirely sure either.

To keep things cool under load, nubia has packed in a massive 20,000mm² cooling area, one of the largest thermal systems you will find in a phone at this price, and a genuinely reassuring spec for extended gaming sessions.
Paired with the T9300 is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, along with a dedicated microSD card slot for expansion.
The camera department has never been a strong point for nubia NEO phones, and the NEO 5 does not change that. It runs a 50MP main camera with a 2MP depth sensor and a 16MP selfie shooter up front. ZTE has not shared aperture or sensor size details, so expectations here should stay modest.
The 6,050mAh battery is impressive, though, and it even comes with a 90-degree angled 45W charging cable in the box, a nice practical touch. The phone also supports bypass charging, which routes power directly to the processor during gaming to reduce heat and battery wear.
ZTE also makes an interesting claim, the last 5% of battery apparently lasts 23 minutes while gaming, 1.3 hours during a call, and up to 29 hours on standby. To be honest, I am not entirely sure how ZTE has achieved that, or whether it holds up in real-world conditions. But if it does, it is definitely something to look forward to.
Lastly, the phone runs Android 16 with MyOS 16 on top. There is also an AI assistant called AI Copilot Demi 2.0, which ZTE describes as both a gaming coach and a chatbot.

For me, the ZTE Nubia NEO 5 falls a little short for what it offers. Don’t get me wrong, the design, gaming-focused features, and battery setup all look genuinely solid.
But I am still not fully convinced by the display, and the performance situation feels a bit uncertain, too. Sure, the UNISOC T9300 is a 5G chipset and reportedly scores around 980 on Geekbench according to testers. But with almost no other phones using this chip besides the NEO 5 series, it is honestly hard to fully trust how it will perform long-term.
And as for whether the phone is truly worth it or not, that will ultimately depend on its official price in Nepal.
