Galaxy Z Fold8 Pre-Booking Opens: Samsung’s Answer to Apple’s Upcoming Foldable?

Samsung unveiled its latest additions to the Galaxy Z Series at its Unpacked event on July 22, 2026. The lineup includes the Galaxy Z Flip8, Z Fold8, and Z Fold8 Ultra. Fast forward about three weeks after the global launch, and all three phones have finally made their way to Nepal. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the Galaxy Z Fold8, which, out of the three, is the only one that feels like a genuinely fresh and meaningful upgrade.

Samsung has made a few interesting changes to the new lineup. The Z Fold7’s natural successor is now the Z Fold8 Ultra, while the standard Z Fold8 takes a different approach. It has a shorter and wider design, making it more compact when folded.

This time around, the Galaxy Z Fold8 feels like what I’ve always imagined a foldable phone should be: a compact phone that unfolds into an actual tablet. But what about the price?

What is the Price of Galaxy Z Fold8 in Nepal?

The Z Fold8 starts at $1,899 for the 12/256GB variant, which is exactly the same starting price as last year’s Z Fold7. In India, the same variant costs INR 179,999, just INR 5,000 more than the Fold7.

However, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 price in Nepal is Rs. 2,74,999 for the 12/256GB variant, which is Rs. 30,000 more than the Fold7’s launch price (Rs. 2,44,999). On the bright side, the Fold8 is still slightly cheaper in Nepal than in India after conversion.

And since all of Samsung’s new foldables have officially launched here, you can now pre-order the Fold8 with one of two pre-order packages: the VIP package or the Normal package. And yes, there’s quite a bit to choose from between the two.

The main difference between the two is the Rs. 10,000 Galaxy Watch discount, which you only get with the VIP package. So, if you’re also eyeing the Watch9 or Watch Ultra2, the VIP package is the better deal.

Despite carrying the same name, Samsung has changed the course of its Fold lineup with the Fold8. It’s a major departure from the familiar design we’ve seen on previous Fold models, especially the Fold7. And this could also be a smart move by Samsung, as the Fold8’s wider and shorter design could help it steal some thunder from Apple’s first foldable, which is also expected to take a similar approach.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Overview

I was like, “Wow, that thing looks cute!” when I first saw the Z Fold8. The new short and wide form factor looked a bit weird at first, but the more I think about it, the more practical it seems.

The Fold8 is now 34.5mm shorter and 9.1mm wider than the Fold7 and Fold8 Ultra when folded, making it much more compact and easier to carry around. Plus, it only weighs 201 grams, very impressive for a foldable.

The Fold8 also introduces Samsung’s new Flex Titanium technology. Samsung claims it helps strengthen the display support, absorb pressure, and reduce crease visibility over time; something that has been a long-standing issue with Samsung’s foldables.

It’s only natural that the display sizes have also changed with the new dimensions. The 5.5-inch cover screen now has a 10:16 aspect ratio, which should make it comfortable for short-term tasks like messaging and browsing social media.

Unfold the phone, and you get a 7.6-inch main display instead of the previous 8-inch panel. It also has a more tablet-like 4:3 aspect ratio, making it better suited for media consumption and other tablet-style tasks. The peak brightness of the main AMOLED panel has also increased from 2,600 nits to 3,000 nits. On top of that, it also gets a low-reflection display finish for improved visibility under sunlight. Meanwhile, the cover display now gets an upgrade to Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 for better protection.

In terms of power, the Fold8 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, one of the most powerful mobile chipsets out there. It’s paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

One of the other changes you’ll instantly notice is the removal of the telephoto camera. Yes, Samsung has gotten rid of it! Kinda feels cruel, doesn’t it? And that’s not all; the 200MP main sensor is gone too. The new Fold8 now has just two 50MP cameras: a main sensor and an ultrawide. The front cameras, however, remain untouched. Both the cover display and the inner display get a 10MP selfie camera.

Thankfully, the numbers increase where it matters more. I’m talking about the battery. The Fold8 packs a bigger 4,800mAh battery, up from the 4,400mAh battery on the Fold7.

The Fold8 series also marks Samsung’s first use of silicon-carbon batteries. I hope Samsung brings this technology to more Galaxy models, especially ones with much bigger batteries. Samsung has also finally improved the charging speeds on the Fold8, with support for 45W wired and 20W wireless charging.

On the software front, the Fold8 runs on the latest Android 17 with One UI 9. And, of course, Samsung’s excellent software support is here too, with seven major Android upgrades promised. Samsung also showcases some new Galaxy AI features on the Z Fold8, including Call Brief, My FanCam, and enhanced Now Nudges.

One of the more interesting ones is My FanCam, a brand-new feature that tries to emulate the fan cam videos you usually see of K-pop stars. Basically, it can detect people in a group video and let you isolate and track a specific person by cropping and reframing the video, creating a solo K-pop-style fan cam clip.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Fold8 isn’t exactly a groundbreaking upgrade, but the new form factor is a big step in a different direction. It finally feels like the foldable phone I’ve always imagined: a compact phone that unfolds into a proper tablet.

With Apple’s first foldable also expected to follow a similar wider and shorter design, this feels like Samsung’s push to stay ahead of the competition. The cameras are a clear compromise, but the new design, bigger battery, faster charging, and improved durability make the Fold8 a much more interesting foldable than its predecessor.
