Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G Overview

Design

The Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G is a bookstyle foldable with an “aerospace-grade” proprietary hinge in the middle. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has partnered with LOEWE — a Spanish luxury brand for the minimalist design of this phone.

It has a horizontally placed rectangular camera island and comes in Karst Green and Rippling Blue colours. Herein, the former has a layered fibreglass for its back panel with a marble-like pattern. Likewise, the latter gets faux leather for its back.

Only the Karst Green option is available in Nepal.

Meanwhile, high-strength aluminium and titanium alloy make its curved middle frame and main body respectively.

The phone is quite a tough unit with IP54 water and dust resistance. Additionally, the company claims the frame to be totally waterproof. It is also said to be able to tank a 1-metre drop onto the ground without much issue.

The hinge on this thing is no slouch either — offering over 4,00,000 folds. This is double the number of folds Samsung guarantees with its latest foldable phones.

Display

Talking of the display, the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G has two of them — obviously. On the front, you are looking at a 6.42-inch AMOLED slab with FHD+ (1,080 x 2,550 pixels) resolution.

Once you fold open the phone, you are greeted with a larger 7.85-inch AMOLED panel stretching 2K (2,000 x 2,296 pixels) in resolution. This foldable screen has a minimal crease of ≤0.1mm.

Other than that, both displays are fluid and vibrant with a 120Hz refresh rate and 100% P3 colour coverage.

Hardware

Under the hood, the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G packs the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor. Though flagship silicon during its time, recent midrangers like the Dimensity 8300 and Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 3 currently far outperform it on benchmarking platforms like AnTuTu 10.

This silicon was launched in mid-2022 and clocks in at 3.2GHz. The first Tecno Phantom V Fold also rocked the same chipset. As such, you are definitely not getting the latest and greatest performance out of it.

This isn’t to say the chipset is slouch in any way. But when compared to something like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, it doesn’t fare too well.

Besides the Dimensity 9000+, Tecno’s upcoming foldable gets a 12GB memory and 512GB storage. It is only available in a single configuration and does not have space for external storage either. Contrarily, you could virtually expand the RAM on this thing by an additional 12GB.

Cameras

Let’s talk optics now. This phone has two selfie snappers and a triple 50MP rear camera setup.

At the back, the main shooter comes with a 1/3” OV50H sensor and OIS capability. It is further assisted by a telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and an ultrawide with 115° field of view. Meanwhile, both the front cameras are 32MP units.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G also gets access to the company’s Universal Tone technology. It is a software that preserves the subject’s skin tone in photos.

Battery and OS

For power, this phone relies on a 5,750 mAh Aircell battery. Like any other foldable in the world, the battery is split into two halves each sitting at either side of the phone. The Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 supports 70W wired and 15W wireless charging. In the meantime, there is no mention of reverse charging.

Software-wise, the phone boots on Android 14 with the company’s HiOS skin on top which is especially optimised for its folding form factor. It is set to receive two OS upgrades and three years of security updates.

Additionally, the phone boasts a great deal of AI prowess — complete with Ella (smart assistant), writing, summarisation, real-time conversation translation, and wallpaper generation.

It is also stylus compatible offering added features like lock screen notes, camera remote control, global cutout, and write-to calculate. It is currently unknown if the phone works with a third-party stylus. Meanwhile, the one Tecno offers is called the Phantom V Pen.

Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G Price in Nepal and Availability

Tecno’s latest foldable made it into the Nepali market on 15 January 2025. The Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G is available in a single 12/512GB configuration whose price is Rs. 1,79,999 in Nepal.

However, as an introductory offer, you can get it for Rs. 1,59,999 with Tecno Phantom V Pen worth Rs. 9,999 bundled together. This offer is valid till 22 January 2025.

The phone is available for purchase on Daraz as well, where you can get additional store and card vouchers bringing the price of the Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G even lower.

As such, this phone takes the crown of “most affordable bookstyle foldable”, as it is over 20% cheaper than the competition.

For reference, the price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 in Nepal is Rs. 2,34,999 — that too for the 256GB variant. The 512GB one costs an additional Rs. 15,000.

Likewise, the other bookstyle foldable that arrived here was the Honor Magic V2 for Rs. 239,999. However, the phone is no longer available in the market.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold 2 5G is one of the most affordable foldable in the world coming from an emerging company. It comes with some capable hardware in the screen and optics department. However, we can see Tecno cutting costs on this phone by offering an older chipset and limited software updates. That being said, it is still a great package, especially considering its price tag.
