It’s been well over a year since the Redmi 13 hit the shelves, so expectations are naturally high for what Xiaomi’s latest budget contender has to offer.

Before stepping into the details of the Redmi 15, let’s address the elephant in the room — what happened to the Redmi 14? Nothing really. There are no big brain moments here. With the Redmi Note 15 series already making a bit of buzz in the market, they probably skipped the 14 to keep the numbering consistent across all their offerings.

That being said, Redmi 15 is the direct successor to the Redmi 13. However, this phone over here is not an absolute win. Some features look genuinely impressive for the price, while others feel outdated or underwhelming.

So, let’s break it down, what Xiaomi got right with the Redmi 15, and where it falls short.

Redmi 15 Overview

Design

From the looks of it, it’s pretty clear that Xiaomi hasn’t put much thought into the Redmi 15’s design. Then again, that’s somewhat expected given its budget positioning.

The phone comes with a flat plastic build, which feels like a step down from the Redmi 13’s glass back. We are bidding goodbye to the Gorilla Glass on the front as well. At least, the phone better handles dust and water exposure with an IP64 rating.

Now, you wouldn’t normally notice this, but the phone has grown a bit in proportions. While the growth in height and thickness is rather minuscule, the width has grown by over 4mm. This may not sound like much, but you will definitely feel it hands-on. And this growth is likely to fit the massive battery the Redmi 15 has (more on that later).

Meanwhile, the sides are as standard as it gets: volume rocker, power button, SIM tray, USB-C port, and a single bottom-firing speaker. The power button also doubles as a fingerprint scanner, which is a common sight in budget phones.

Display

As mentioned earlier, the Redmi 15 is a massive phone, and its 6.9-inch display only emphasizes that. The downside? The bezels are noticeably thick, with the chin in particular standing out more than it should.

That said, Xiaomi at least included a punch-hole front camera, which does give the phone a slightly more modern look.

On paper, the display looks impressive: an FHD+ (1080 × 2340) IPS LCD with support for up to 144Hz refresh rate. But here’s the catch: given the hardware powering this phone, it’s unlikely you’ll ever see that kind of smoothness in real usage. In reality, you’ll probably be hovering closer to 120Hz, which is still good for scrolling and general navigation at this price.

Hardware

The Redmi 15 runs on the Snapdragon 685, a nearly two-year-old SoC that simply doesn’t justify the phone’s price tag. To put things into perspective, this is the same chip that powered the Redmi Note 12 4G, which came out ages ago.

On the brighter side, Xiaomi has at least moved away from the 12nm Helio G91-Ultra to a more efficient 6nm process. Sadly, real-world performance still feels pretty much the same. Honestly, a MediaTek Helio G99 or G100 would have been a much better fit in this segment.

Memory-wise, the phone comes in 6GB or 8GB RAM variants, paired with either 128GB or 256GB storage. There’s also a microSD card slot, a hybrid one. The memory configurations to be available in the Nepali market are the same, i.e. 6/128GB and 8/256GB.

Camera

The optics department isn’t particularly exciting. The Redmi 15 comes with a single 50MP main camera, accompanied by what Xiaomi calls an auxiliary lens, but in reality, it doesn’t add much value. The module might look like a triple-camera setup, but the third cutout is just for show.

Up front, you get an 8MP selfie camera, which, like the rear shooter, maxes out at 1080p video recording at 30fps.

Battery and OS

If there’s one area where the Redmi 15 really shines, it’s the battery. Xiaomi has packed in a massive 7,000mAh cell. On top of that, you get 33W fast charging support and even 18W reverse wired charging.

Now, you’d expect a battery this big to explain the phone growing wider. But here’s the catch: it uses Si/C (Silicon-Carbon) battery tech, which is specifically designed to make cells thinner and more compact. So, it’s a bit puzzling why the phone still grew the way it did, especially considering the otherwise modest hardware.

On the software side, the Redmi 15 ships with Android 15 out of the box, layered with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 skin.

Redmi 15 Price in Nepal and Availability

The Redmi 15 price in Nepal is Rs. 18,999 (6/128GB) and Rs. 21,999 (8/256GB). The phone made its way into Nepal at the start of September and can be purchased at all official stores.

6/128GB Rs. 18,999
8/256GB Rs. 21,999

In most areas, the Redmi 15 feels like it’s lagging behind the competition. The Snapdragon 685, being a two-year-old chip, simply doesn’t belong in a phone at this price point. The display is serviceable, but rivals like the HMD Crest are already offering OLED panels in the same segment, which makes the Redmi’s IPS LCD feel underwhelming by comparison.

That said, the one true standout here is the massive 7,000mAh battery. No other phone in this price range, at least in Nepal, is offering something quite like it. Had Xiaomi put the pricing constant, the Redmi 15 could have targeted a solid niche in Nepal’s budget market, even if the rest of the specs don’t quite keep up.

But they decided to raise the price while upgrades are hard to spot. So, as it stands, Xiaomi has lost some steam with this phone while the competition is gearing up.
