HH Bajaj, the official distributor of Bajaj motorcycles in Nepal, introduced the Pulsar 150 back in 2001 as part of their affordable commuter lineup. Since then, they’ve continued offering the bike with only minor updates over the years, and it’s still available today.

In its early years, the Pulsar 150 received some notable improvements, like a standard Front Disc Brake, the addition of DTS-i (Digital Twin Spark Ignition) technology, and cosmetic upgrades such as Twin Headlamps. But beyond those early enhancements, the bike hasn’t kept pace with modern trends.

While the 150cc segment has evolved significantly, bringing in features like Fuel Injection, ABS, and fully Digital Instrument Clusters, the Pulsar 150 has remained largely the same, missing out on these advancements.

Still, the Pulsar 150 does what it was always meant to do. It’s a reliable commuter that gets you from point A to point B with decent performance, good mileage, and comfortable ergonomics.

There are actually more differences between these two variants than what we’ve mentioned so far, and we’ll explore all of them in this article. If you’re specifically looking for a detailed breakdown, feel free to skip ahead to the “Differences Between the SD and TD Variants” section.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Overview

Design

Bajaj Pulsar 150 boasts a muscular design that hasn’t changed much but it did managed to captivate riders during its debut.

The front features a signature wolf-eyed Headlamp with an AHO functionality with a minimal visor accompanied by Halogen side indicators. Moreover, like every other Bajaj motorcycle, it comes with familiar styling. It daunts the “Dagger” inspired graphics matched with the engine cowl.

Looking at the bike from side, it pretty aesthetic, particularly due to the Dual-tone finish and also due to the slight contour on the fuel tank. The bike stands on 17-inch Alloy wheels but differ in the seat layout depending on the variant.

The rear section features the signature Pulsar-style LED taillights and a simple mudguard, which does the job well. However, the grab rail design, especially on the TD unit, could really use some improvement.

Furthermore, both variants includes other classic Pulsar features like Clip-on Handlebars, Back-lit Switches, and an Analog-Digital Instrument Console.

But that’s where the similarities stop and actually there are a lot of differences between the TD and SD variants.

The Twin Disc (TD) variant stands out with several upgrades over the Single Disc (SD) version.

It gets a Larger Front Disc Brake, a Rear Disc for better stopping power, Wider Tires for improved grip, Chunkier Front Forks for enhanced stability, and a sportier Split-Seat Setup.

In contrast, the SD variant keeps things simpler. It comes with a Smaller Front Disc, relies on a Rear Drum Brake, has Narrower Tires, Thinner Front Forks, and features a Single-Piece seat. However, it does offer both Electric Start and Kick Start.

This is something the TD misses out on, as it comes with only an electric starter, which might be a dealbreaker for some riders who prefer the backup of a kick start, especially in cold regions.

Performance

Bajaj Pulsar 150 is powered by a 149.5cc Twin Spark DTS-I which is a BS4 compliant Carburetor Engine. It can generate a max power of 14 PS at 8000 rpm and a max torque of 13.4 Nm at 6000 rpm.

The Pulsar 150 comes with a 5-speed gearbox and a 15-liter fuel tank. Out of that, it has a 3.2-liter reserve, but only about 2 liters of it is actually usable. On most days, you can expect a mileage of around 40 to 45 kmpl, depending on how and where you ride.

The performance might not blow you away, but it’s more than capable of handling daily commutes and getting you where you need to go. That said, there’s more to this bike than just the numbers.

It carries a rugged, raw character that riders will truly feel once they’re on the seat, something that spec sheets alone just can’t capture.

Also, the top speed of Pulsar 150 is 110 kmph.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 Price in Nepal and Availability

Bajaj Pulsar 150 price in Nepal starts at Rs. 3,13,900 for the Single Disc variant (SD) to Rs. 3,32,900 for the Twin Disc variant (TD)

Most parts of the Pulsar 150 feel outdated now. While other bikes in the 150cc segment have received major technical upgrades due to growing competition, the Pulsar 150 hasn’t really kept up, at least not in Nepal.

To be fair, the Pulsar 150 still ranks as one of the most affordable bikes in the market. Sure, close to Rs. 3.50 Lakhs isn’t exactly cheap, but for buyers who can stretch their budget a little, Bajaj Nepal is now focusing on the newer Pulsar N150 as their primary 150cc option.

The N150 fixes many of the issues found in the older model, and we’ll explore that more in the rivals section. But even with all its improvements, it still can’t capture the legacy of the original Pulsar 150. That’s why giving the classic Pulsar 150 a few solid upgrades would go a long way for riders who still appreciate its time-tested reputation.

Rivals

Just a generation ago, the Bajaj Pulsar 150 was a dream machine for many first-time riders in Nepal. It had the looks, the power, and the road presence that made it an easy choice. But the biking scene in Nepal has moved on, and today, the Pulsar 150 struggles to keep up.

To really understand how far things have come, and how outdated the Pulsar 150 has become, let’s compare it to two key rivals: the TVS Raider 125 and its own sibling, the Bajaj Pulsar N150.

At first glance, the TVS Raider might seem like an odd addition here. After all, it’s a 125cc bike. But it absolutely earns its place in this comparison. Priced at around Rs. 3 Lakhs, the Raider punches well above its weight. It comes with a Fuel-Injected engine, good performance, and impressive mileage. What really stands out are the features that includes a fully digital console, one-touch start, USB charger, ride modes, and even auto start-stop technology.

TVS has consistently upgraded and innovated to meet the needs of modern riders, and it shows. That’s why the Raider has become one of Nepal’s best-selling bikes. Meanwhile, the Pulsar 150 has remained stuck in time, missing out on the kind of meaningful updates that matter today.

Now let’s bring in the Pulsar N150. Park it next to the Pulsar 150, and it’s like looking at a father and his son. The N150 feels young and fresh with its aggressive design, LED projector headlamp, Fuel-Injected BS6 engine, digital instrument cluster, and single-channel ABS. These are the features today’s buyers look for. Most riders are well-informed, and no one wants to invest Rs. 3.33 Lakhs in a bike that feels dated, especially when adding just around Rs. 40,000 gets them the much more modern N150.

So here’s the bottom line: the Pulsar 150, once a trailblazer, now feels like a relic. Without a serious update, it simply won’t survive in this new-age segment. If Bajaj wants to keep the Pulsar 150 alive and relevant, it needs to give it the upgrades it truly deserves.
