OPPO Reno16 Pre-Booking Goes Live: Just as Good as the Reno15, or Even Better?

Although it hasn’t been that long since the launch of the OPPO Reno15 series in February 2026 in Nepal, the Reno16’s global success is already creating a buzz.

On paper, it sounds like a well-rounded package: good design, decent battery, and a complete camera setup. However, do you think the Reno16 has enough going for it beyond the pretty design and camera hardware?

Let’s find out in more detail.

What is the Price of OPPO Reno16 in Nepal?

The OPPO Reno16 price in Nepal could be Rs. 1,04,999 for the sole 12/256GB variant. Going back to early 2026, the Reno15 launched with a price tag of only Rs. 89,999, and that too for a massive 512GB of storage.

So, you might think we’ve priced the Reno16 a bit too high. But this much of a price increase is expected due to the massive spike in memory chip costs driven by the AI boom.

Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long for the official pricing, as the phone is already open for pre-booking, and with that comes some genuinely interesting offers.

Pre-booked buyers get an instant Rs. 2,000 cashback, along with a 2-month replacement policy, meaning any manufacturing defect or issue found within that window gets the unit replaced. On top of that, you also get the OPPO Enco Air 3 Pro TWS worth Rs. 3,499 completely free.

The pre-booking period ends on September 15. After that, customers will be able to purchase the phone directly via authorized OPPO stores starting September 16.

To make things more interesting, there are also talks of OPPO bringing the OPPO Bubble to Nepal. It’s a small magnetic external display that connects wirelessly to the OPPO Find and Reno series. In a nutshell, it works as a remote viewfinder. As of now, OPPO has not announced an official Nepal launch or pricing for the Bubble.

Our impression of the Reno15 was largely positive when we reviewed it, so we came into the Reno16 with fairly high expectations. Naturally, we are expecting OPPO to build on what worked well with the previous generation and offer meaningful improvements this time around.

So, there must be some compelling points for it to be above Rs. 1 lakh. And we’ll find out about that in the overview.

OPPO Reno16 Overview

One of the most appealing parts of the OPPO Reno16 is its design.

White, or as OPPO likes to call it, Pop White, variant comes with a glass back and offers a more playful look. Its 3D Pop Planet Design turns the back panel into a tiny galaxy, with planet-like rings, little stars, and shimmering glitter. Tilt the phone, and the holographic micro-lens effects catch the light, making the rings and sparkles appear to shift and dance across the surface.

If you prefer a simpler and more chic look, Twilight Violet uses a plastic back with a subtle matte finish. Both variants feature an aluminium frame and have IP68/IP69K protection.

On the display front, the Reno16 takes a more compact approach with its 6.32-inch AMOLED panel. However, its compact size doesn’t mean it compromises on display quality.

The panel offers a sharp 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It also supports 1.07 billion colours, HDR10+, and up to 3,600 nits of peak brightness.

Coming to the performance, Reno16 has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (4nm), the same as Reno15. It’s a mid-range chipset and comfortably handles everyday tasks, multitasking, social media, photography, and most games. But it’s not the best SoC you can get at this price range.

The OnePlus 15R is cheaper and packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a flagship chipset. However, its lower price could partly be attributed to its earlier entry into Nepal, when RAM prices were lower. Likewise, at similar pricing, the Xiaomi 17T also offers better performance with the Dimensity 8500 Ultra.

Talking about memory specifications, the Reno16 runs on 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For now, it is only available in the 256GB configuration. While OPPO has offered 512GB variants in the past, there is no official confirmation that a 512GB Reno16 will be available in the future.

On the back, you will get a 50MP main camera with OIS, another 50MP telephoto camera with OIS with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus.

Having three 50MP cameras certainly won’t tell us how good the cameras are. However, if it works as it is written on paper, we can surely say Reno16 is better equipped for different shooting scenarios.

That said, Nothing Phone (4a) Pro can challenge OPPO with its 50MP main camera, along with a 50MP 3.5x periscope telephoto camera with OIS. The (4a) Pro might lack a 50MP ultrawide, but it is still highly competitive, especially considering the (4a) Pro costs less than Rs. 95,000.

For selfies, though, you’d clearly want to go with the OPPO Reno16. It features a 50MP autofocus front camera with a 100° field of view and support for 4K video recording. That 100° FOV makes the Reno16’s selfie camera much more versatile. Want a regular selfie? Use 1x. Need a groupfie? Switch to 0.6x. And if you’re into vlogging, that wider FOV also comes in really handy, giving you more room to fit yourself and your surroundings into the frame.

Besides that, the Reno16 features a 6,700mAh Si/C battery, 200mAh more than the Reno15, and supports 80W wired charging. In terms of software, it runs Android 16 with OPPO’s ColorOS 16 skin on top.

The Reno16 is by no means a bad phone; it delivers a smooth performance experience and impressive cameras. It also brings a significant camera upgrade over the Reno15, particularly with the jump from an 8MP to a 50MP ultrawide camera.

However, at a similar price, competitors like the Xiaomi 17T push the hardware further with a 5x periscope telephoto camera and stronger performance. On the other hand, if you want a better software experience and are willing to compromise a bit with the camera, the Samsung Galaxy A57 will be a better fit. There’s also the Vivo V70 5G, another camera-centric smartphone that comes under Rs. 90,000, but you will have to limit yourself to just 8GB of RAM.

We can see that the OPPO Reno16 isn’t trying to be the most powerful phone in its price range. Its main approach is to offer a compact, camera-centric premium mid-ranger. And that approach makes sense.

So, the Reno16’s biggest strength isn’t raw value; it’s the experience it is trying to offer. If you are looking for a compact phone with versatile cameras, strong selfie capabilities, and a premium-looking design, the Reno16 could be an appealing option.
