Following the successful launch of the Nammi 01 in 2024, which gained popularity in the Nepali market for its compact design, capable performance, impressive driving range, and rich feature set, the company now aims to build on that momentum. And, like its smaller sibling, the Nammi Vigo sits on the Dongfeng Quantum Architecture Platform 3 (also known as the S3 platform), a dedicated EV architecture engineered specifically for small electric vehicles.

Interestingly, Dongfeng has developed Nammi Vigo’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in collaboration with DJI, a globally recognized name in the drone industry.

The Dongfeng Vigo follows what the company calls the “Fun Rubik’s Cube Design Concept.” The idea takes inspiration from the playful and modular nature of a Rubik’s Cube, and you can see that influence in the way geometric elements come together to create a pleasing visual character.

Despite the Vigo’s minimalist form, the design team has managed to give it a more prominent presence on the road.

At the front, the ‘7’-shaped LED DRLs stand out immediately. They wrap around the integrated LED Headlamps stacked in the same unit. On the higher-spec E2+ trim, these lights go a step further with Adaptive High and Low Beam functionality. To avoid an overly monotone body finish, Dongfeng separates the bonnet from the closed-off grille using a piano-black accent.

The bonnet itself carries symmetrical rib-like lines that extend outward, giving the front end an extra sense of strength. Step inside the Vigo and you instantly notice a familiar layout that closely resembles the Nammi 01. However, Dongfeng has pushed the premium feel further here. Most of the cabin comes wrapped in soft leatherette, leaving only the top section of the dashboard in hard plastic.

At the center, a 12.8-inch Touchscreen takes charge of almost all vehicle functions, echoing the ‘tech-forward’ approach seen in the Nammi 01. Right behind the single-spoke steering wheel sits an 8.8-inch Digital Instrument Cluster.

Comfort features are well thought out, too. Both variants come equipped with Leatherette Seats that not only support Heating and Ventilation but also include a Memory function for the driver. There’s also a ‘Bed Mode’ where the front seats can be made flat to convert the whole arrangement into a bed-like thing. On top of that, the Vigo packs in plenty of convenience features such as Wireless Charging, Voice Control, Ambient Lighting, and a 6-speaker audio setup.

But the E2+ trim enhances the package with unique touches. It adds exterior speakers to alert pedestrians, which is considered to be a practical solution for the naturally quiet EV drivetrain. This variant also introduces a Moon Roof, which is the feature missing on the base E2 trim.

Performance

As previously mentioned, the Nammi Vigo comes in two variants, the E2 and the E2+. But, both share the same 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces 136 PS of max power.

The torque figure, however, has not yet been disclosed. Originally, the Vigo featured a 135 kW PMS motor with a reported peak torque of 290 Nm. But for the Nepali market, the motor has been detuned to 99 kW, which makes it difficult to estimate the final torque output with certainty.

Where the two variants stand apart is in their battery configurations. Both use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology, but the capacities differ.

The entry-level E2 packs a 44.94 kWh battery, which delivers a WLTP-certified range of 300 km. Charging this battery with a standard 3.3 kW AC charger takes about 15 hours, while a 7 kW AC charger cuts the time nearly in half, bringing it down to around 7 hours.

The higher-spec E2+ steps things up with a 51.87 kWh LFP battery pack, extending the WLTP range to 350 km. And, naturally, the larger pack takes longer to charge. With a 3.3 kW AC charger, it takes close to 17 hours for a full top-up, whereas a 7 kW charger completes the job in roughly 8 hours.

Things get more optimistic when we talk about DC fast charging. The details for the E2 variant remain unclear, but available information suggests that it supports over 60 kW DC charging. Considering a 60 kW support, charging from 20% to 80% should take about 30 minutes.

On the other hand, the E2+ has been officially rated by Dongfeng to handle up to 167 kW DC charging. And, under optimal conditions, this can push the battery from 20% to 80% in just 18 minutes, which is quite impressive for its class.

Additional Details

The suspension setup is a combination of McPherson Strut and Torsion Beam, which is a setup seen in the Nammi 01, too.

The dimensions are 4306 mm in length, 1868 mm in width, and 1654 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2715 mm. These dimensions position the 06 in the compact electric SUV segment, a segment above its smaller sibling.

Then comes the technology and features. Since both cars come from Chinese manufacturers, they are naturally packed with a generous set of modern features.

Yet, if I had to lean one way, the Atto 2 does feel slightly more polished in execution, which gives it an edge in this area. The real talking point, however, is the price.

The Atto 2 costs around 2 Lakhs more than the Nammi Vigo. But that premium brings a 10-year warranty on both battery and motor, compared to the 8-year warranty offered on the Vigo.

More importantly, BYD as a brand enjoys far stronger recognition in Nepal. With models like the Dolphin and the Atto 3 already building credibility, BYD has positioned itself as a dominant force. In contrast, Dongfeng’s Nammi lineup is still in its early days. The Nammi 01 performed well, but with only two models under its belt, it simply does not enjoy the same level of presence or buyer confidence as BYD.

All things considered, the Nammi Vigo does make a solid case as a budget-friendly SUV. It delivers good value for money without compromising much on performance or features. On the other hand, the BYD Atto 2 justifies its higher price with its refined persona & execution, backed by brand strength.
