Design

The boAt Nirvana Ion comes in a rectangular oval-shaped plastic case. The edge where the main body of the case meets the lid of the case has a silver band with boAt branding. You will also notice a single LED light on the case to indicate the charge.

Overall, the casing is minimal and the silver banding makes it stand out from other boAt earbuds. Inside, you will find the earbuds also have a circular silver ring on the area where the touch sensor lies. The touch sensor area also has a boAt logo and an LED indicator. Both the case and earbuds have a matte finish.

These in-ear earphones have a wavy texture on the stem of the earbuds for easy grip. Lastly, these earbuds are IPX4 water resistant, so they should handle light sweat and water splashes.

Features

The boAt Nirvana Ion earphones have a 10mm driver. The earbuds come with “Crystal Bionic Sound” powered by HiFi DSP, which in simple terms is a digital signal processing algorithm used by boAt to optimize audio output.

The earbuds have dual EQ modes: boAt Balanced Sound and boAt Signature. EQ modes are preset sound profiles with an adjusted balance of different audio frequencies to enhance the audio quality.

In boAt’s Beast Mode, you get a reduced latency of up to 60ms. Additionally, in-ear detection is said to use high-precision infrared sensors for real-time wear monitoring. The sensors help to play music when you wear the earbuds and pause when you remove them.

The silicone ear tips should help block some external noise but you don’t get active noise cancellation on these earbuds. It features boAt’s “ENx technology” with quad-mics which simply reduces noise on the receiver’s end during calls, by utilizing dedicated mics for voice and noise collection.

Battery and Connectivity

The main highlight of the Nirvana Ion is its battery backup. With a 600mAh battery in the charging case and a 70mAh battery in the earbuds, boAt claims 120 hours of total playback. The earbuds alone give a 24-hour playback per earbud. The company states that these are industry-leading battery performance on a TWS earbud.

The earbuds support Bluetooth v5.2 for connectivity. The TWS is supported across Windows, Android, and iOS devices.

The boAt Nirvana Ion is priced slightly higher than the Airdopes Alpha and the Airdopes 170. But this is justified by the huge leap in battery backup. 24 hours of battery backup in each earbud and 120 hours including the case is a good battery backup amongst the existing TWS in the Nepali market.

The earbuds still lack active noise cancellation and only include environmental noise cancellation. But it gives the user a choice of two EQ modes and the company states the Crystal Bionic Sound technology will enhance the experience of listening to music.
