Apple Watch Ultra 2 Launched in Nepal: Ultra Bright Now

The Apple Event 2023, held on September 12 is where they announced the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the successor to the Apple Watch Ultra. It is now available for purchase in Nepal.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a rugged smartwatch that’s targeted towards active users and athletes. Not much has changed from the previous Watch Ultra. With that said, let’s take a look at the Apple Watch Ultra 2, the most expensive Apple smartwatch.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 Overview

Design

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 features the same design as that of the Watch Ultra. It has a 49mm titanium frame that is corrosion-resistant. The rugged MIL-STD 810H-certified watch’s front is protected by Sapphire crystal and the back is protected by ceramic/sapphire crystal.

For swimmers, the watch is WR100 certified along with EN13319 certification for diving enthusiasts. The EN13319 certification is given for diving equipment capable of diving up to 40m deep.

Furthermore, the watch is IP6X rated and Apple has also made a major step towards their carbon-neutral goals with the watch. The Watch Ultra 2, like the Series 9, is available in carbon-neutral combinations. The Watch Ultra 2 paired with either Alpine Loop or Trail Loop results in a carbon-neutral watch, or so Apple claims.

Display

The display can reach up to 3000nits of peak brightness, which makes it the brightest display on any of Apple products released so far, topping even the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The display can also dim to 1 nit and Night Mode activates automatically in the dark.

The Retina display, which is topped with sapphire crystal, is 1.92 inches in size with a resolution of 502 x 410 pixels. There’s also a new watch face that shows dynamic information like altitude, depth, and more.

Hardware

The Watch Ultra 2 features Apple’s S9 SiP. This improved chip allows the usage of the new double-tap gesture on the watch. Simply pinch your index and thumb together twice and the watch detects it to perform different actions. You can use it to answer calls, pause timers, and many more.

The S9 SiP makes it possible by using more transistors, 60% more than before, and a new four-core Neural Engine to make machine learning tasks up to two times faster. It also enables new features like on-device Siri and Precision finding for iPhone.

Health and Features

Apple Watch Ultra 2 has all the health and activity features you expect from a smartwatch. It has multiple workout modes and can monitor heart rate, sleep, and blood oxygen along with asking Siri health queries. It’s pretty much the same features as the Watch Ultra so we’ll skip the details.

You can see intensity levels in different heart zones and the workout app auto-switches between activities. The Watch Ultra 2 can also monitor wrist temperature to give overall body temperature, enabling insights for women’s cycle tracking as well.

The Digital crown can be rotated to temporarily double the flashlight brightness in dark situations which is sure to be a handy feature for explorers. The watch also has a three-microphone array which gives good voice clarity even in windy environments by using adaptive algorithms.

The Watch Ultra 2 now connects to cycling accessories like power meters as well via Bluetooth to provide a better view of performance. It automatically shows up as a Live Activity on the iPhone as well. Pretty convenient.

The customizable action button is still present on the left side of the watch which is in bright international orange. It’s a button that can be customized to trigger a variety of features. Holding the action button will activate an 86-decibel siren designed for emergencies which can be heard up to 180 meters away, Apple claims.

Next to the action button are the dual speakers which make voice calls and Siri loud so that you can stay connected in even harsh conditions.

The car crash detection feature is also present along with Fall detection which detects falls and calls emergency services if the user is unresponsive. The Watch detects car crashes using advanced sensors and machine learning algorithms.

Athletes Features

The watch features metrics that just make sense. Apple advertises the watch as being able to take you anywhere and help you get home.

The watch features an accurate compass for navigation in the wild. You can view critical details like elevation, incline, and heading on the watch and can also add waypoints. By tapping the elevation button, the watch presents you with a 3D view of your waypoint.

The backtrack feature is super helpful when you get lost or disoriented. It uses GPS data to automatically create a path, even off-grid so you can get back to where you started from. There are some advanced map details on the Watch Ultra 2. New topographic maps that show physical features including mountains, valleys, water bodies, and so on. You also get detailed trail information like length, photos, and more.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 can survive extreme temperatures ranging from -20° C to 55° C and can operate from -500m to 9000m altitudes. Time to scale Mount Everest?

After conquering the land, let’s move to the sea. The watch is built to withstand jetskiing or even kitesurfing. There’s a depth gauge and the EN13319 certification, standard for diving accessories, means the watch is basically a fully functional dive computer for scuba divers or free divers down to 40 meters.

Apple also introduced Freediving, the Oceanic+ app that now shows critical data like depth and descending rate in an easily visible format. There are also preset alarms for surface time and elapsed time to guide you safely on your freediving journey. There’s also a dive planner with local knowledge to include local conditions in your diving sessions.

Connectivity and Battery

It features Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi 4 support. The watch also supports NFC and LTE using an eSIM.

Apple Watch incorporates the L5 frequency for GPS along with the L1. This means that the GPS tracking in the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is very accurate, even in densely populated areas.

Apple has claimed a battery life of 36 hours with the Watch Ultra 2. The watch can go up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode and also support fast charging to juice up the battery.
