Apple Watch Series 9 Launched in Nepal: Smarter and Brighter

Apple announced the launch of the Apple Watch Series 9 series in their Wonderlust event held on September 12, 2023, along with the iPhone 15 series. The smartwatch is now available for purchase in Nepal.

With the Watch Series 9, they also announced the Apple Watch Ultra 2. We’ll talk about that in another article and dedicate this one to the Watch Series 9. The watch is available in two sizes: 41mm and 45mm and with two finishes: Aluminum and Stainless steel. Let’s look at what this premium smartwatch has to offer.

Apple Watch Series 9 Overview

Design and Display

The Series 9 is the first Apple watch to feature carbon-neutral combinations. Apple claims that pairing any Aluminum case with the new Sport Loop band results in a carbon-neutral combination.

The design itself is pretty much unchanged with the watch still featuring 50m water resistance and the 41/45mm sizes.

The display however is now twice as bright at 2000nits. It’s also a Retina LTPO OLED panel and the watch series 9 is available with GPS only or GPS+cellular models.

The Aluminum finish is available in 5 color variants: Pink, midnight, starlight, silver, and Product Red while the Stainless steel finish is available in Gold, Silver, and Graphite.

Hardware

Powering the watch is the new S9 SiP. Apple claims this is their most powerful chip in the Apple watch ever and it brings a new dual-core CPU with 5.6 billion transistors, a significant 60% increase compared to the S8 There’s also a new four-core Neural Engine that processes machine learning tasks twice as fast.

In terms of memory, it offers 64GB of storage.

Health and Features

Not a lot has changed feature-wise. The Series 9 still features the same health sensors and is able to measure heart rate, SpO2, and body temperature. There’s also an ECG app capable of generating a similar graph and you’ll also get notifications for high/low heart rates along with irregular rhythm.

The Series 9 will also allow on-demand SpO2 measurements and keep background readings as well. You also get sleep tracking which not only measures sleep time but also keeps track of REM, Core, or Deep sleep.

Furthermore, temperature measurements can help with cycle tracking data to provide important information regarding the body and make retrospective estimations of ovulation which can be helpful for women users. Other than that, there’s a mindfulness app on the watch itself that engages the user and keeps track of emotions and daily moods.

The watch is also able to detect falls or crashes and call emergency services for help when needed. The fall detection is also optimized for use while in the workout app and can connect you to emergency services if you’re immobile.

Software

The Series 9 comes with watchOS 10, which brings some welcome interface changes and provides more information. There is a new double-tap gesture to answer calls, open notifications, play/pause music, and more. However, Apple says it will only be available later this year with watchOS 10.1.

Connectivity and Battery

For connectivity, the smartwatch supports Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi. It also has NFC support, making payments easier, and built-in GNSS support, including GPS, GLONASS, QZSS, BDS, and Galileo.

In the battery department, the watch comes with a 308mAh battery and also features wireless charging. Apple has claimed 18 hours of backup in normal usage and up to 36 hours of backup in low-power mode. The magnetic fast-charging USB-C cable comes included with the watch as well.
