Pros
- Pop-Up Camera Design
- Decent IPS Panel
- Good Gaming Performance
- Average Battery Life
Cons

- Software Experience is Not Good
- Speaker is Not Loud Enough
Coolpad is back in Nepal and they have been launching quite a few phones right now. Among them, Coolpad Cool 6 is a mid-range smartphone with an Helio P70 chipset and a pop-up camera design.
Coolpad Cool 6 price in Nepal is Rs. 26,499 for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant. It is a mid-range device with an old but capable chipset, 4000 mAh battery, and triple camera setup. But how does it fare in daily usage?
Let’s check it out in my full review of the Coolpad Cool 6.

Coolpad Cool 6 Review
Design
- 162.4 x 76.5 x 9.2 mm, 198 g
- Hybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by)
Coolpad Cool 6 features a pop-up camera design which is quite rare in this segment. The front bezels are quite reduced due to the pop-up camera design. On the rear, it uses a glass back with a gradient finish.
The back panel consists of a vertical triple camera setup flanked by a fingerprint sensor on the right. The rear panel easily catches fingerprints so using a case might be a good idea.
The build quality of the Cool 6 feels solid and it has premium design as well.
Volume and power buttons are on the right side whereas the left side houses a Hybrid Dual-Sim slot. On the bottom, it gets a USB-Type C port and a single speaker.
Display
- 6.53 inches FHD+ IPS LCD
- 1080 x 2340 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio
- 60Hz
Cool 6 Sports a 6.53 inches FHD+ IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels.
The display has natural color and leans toward neutral profile. The contrast ratio is not great though.
It’s not a great IPS panel but it is enough for content viewing and playing games. The pop-up camera mechanism also helps it to achieve maximum screen real state.
You can choose between 3 screen modes: Standard, Vivid, Cool. The standard mode was the best among all three. As for brightness, it is plenty bright indoors and you won’t have much problem outdoors as well.

Performance
- Mediatek MT6771V Helio P70 (12nm)
- Octa-core (4×2.1 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A53)
- Mali-G72 MP3
- 128GB 6GB RAM
Coolpad has gone with a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset on the Cool 6 paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
MediaTek Helio P70 is a 12nm chipset. It has an Octa-core (4×2.1 GHz Cortex-A73 & 4×2.0 GHz Cortex-A53) CPU and Mali-G72 MP3GPU. This chipset is an old chipset but it was used in upper-midrange phones like OppoReno 2F.
The Helio P70 paired with 6GB RAM sails smoothly through apps. The animations are quite good and I didn’t notice any lags or stutters while switching browsing and switching between apps.
I played COD Mobile on the Cool 6. The game runs smooth on High graphics and High fps settings. But it’s dissapointing that you don’t get Very High or Extreme fps option.
The story is the same with the PUBG Mobile as you don’t get the Extreme fps option on the Smooth graphics setting. The gameplay is fine on High graphics and High fps setting. The frame rate is more or less consistent with occasional frame drops.

Camera
- Rear Camera: 48MP
- 2 MP
- 2 MP
- Video: 1080p@30fps
- Front Camera: 21MP
- Video: 1080p@30fps
Cool 6 has 3 cameras on the back as the main 48MP sensor is accompanied by two 2MP sensors. One of them is a depth sensor but I don’t know what the other one is for because it doesn’t have a macro mode. Nonetheless, it is disappointing to see that it does not have an ultrawide angle sensor.
NORMAL PHOTOS
Daylight photos have average details with a neutral color scheme. The photos look a bit pale in normal mode but the HDR mode helps to make photos a bit more appealing with improved exposure. Else, the dynamic range is not that good as you can notice that some photos appear soft in high dynamic range situations.
The difference in detail between normal mode and 48MP mode is distinguishable on the Cool 6. I prefer taking photos in HDR or UHD mode with the Cool 6.
The low light performance is also average as photos retain noise and the detail level is not up to the mark. With the night mode, you can get better exposure but the noise reduction is aggressive which results in grainy photos.
PORTRAIT PHOTOS
Portrait photos from the Coolpad 6 turn out weird. The cutout looks unimpressive and the background blur is also not convincing. Also, the background will be washed out in backlit conditions. The portrait mode is a fail on the Cool 6.
FRONT CAMERA
The front camera has decent details and the color is similar to the rear camera. However, the photos will retain noise in slighlty low-light conditions. And the details start to fade with the light.
If there’s a backlight then the selfies are sure to turn out flat and washed out. Similar is the case with portrait selfies. However, I like the portrait from the front camera than the rear camera.
Video
Cool 6 can capture videos up to 1080p 30fps. The video quality is not good even for a budget phone. The color looks faded and the dynamic range is poor. Likewise, you don’t get good stabilization out of Cool 6.
Battery
- Non-removable Li-Po 4000 mAh battery
- 10W charging
Coolpad Cool 6 has a 4000 mAh battery which is just enough for a day of usage. Under moderate usage, I would usually need to charge the phone at night around 9 PM. On average it will provide 5-6 hours of screen on time.
As for charging, the 10W charging takes about 2 hours 20 mins to charge it from 0 to 100.
Security and Speaker
The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is quite quick but it doesn’t have the face unlock feature.
Cool 6’s single speaker on the bottom is pretty shabby. The max volume is low and the clarity is also not up to PAR with top budget phones.

Software
Coolpad Cool 6 runs on stock Android 10 with slight tweaks.
Coolpad has not named its UI but it is pretty simple and doesn’t have many options if you’re looking for customizations. It does provide you an app drawer and dark theme but that’s it. The themes are limited and the overall look and feel of the UI are not great.
The icons, notification toggle menus, and settings page are quite simple. It is easy to navigate between the settings page as well.
Overall, the UI experience on the Cool 6 is not appealing. You will get bored quite easily.
Conclusion
Coolpad Cool 6 has a good design with a glass back and the pop-up camera design provides it with good aesthetics.
The phone doesn’t disappoint interms of performance either. The old Helio P70 chipset can play games pretty easily but the optimization is poor as you don’t get an extreme fps option on popular titles like PUBG and COD. Likewise, the image processing on this phone feels undercooked. The camera performance is not up to the mark and neither is the software experience.
So, Coolpad Cool 6 is a cool-looking phone with a cool gaming performance. But the camera performance and software experience let it down. There are plenty of top-notch mid-range phones that will provide you a better experience than Cool 6.
