Vivo has been on a roll with its flagship phone for the past few years. In fact, it was so dominant that it not only bagged the “Best Camera Enthusiast Phone” category, but also the “THE ULTIMATE CHAMPION” title at the 2025 Edition of the TechLekh Awards for smartphones with the vivo X300 Pro.

That’s quite a portfolio! So, we were obviously very ecstatic about the prospect of the vivo X500 Pro Max coming soon to Nepal. But given the ongoing memory crisis, the pricing situation will likely be a bit tricky.
What is the Price of Vivo X500 Pro Max in Nepal?
The vivo X500 Pro Max could cost around Rs 2,30,000 in Nepal, a massive jump over the X300 Pro. Even that might be a liberal estimate, and the final asking price could end up much higher.
There are a few reasons why I think so. We’re all aware of how bleak the pricing situation is right now. The vivo X300 Pro also recently got a price hike to Rs 2,00,000, so the X500 Pro Max launching at the two-lakh mark like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is out of the picture. And newer generations usually cost more anyway.
I also feel vivo might offer a 12/256GB variant at Rs 2,30,000 instead of the 16/512GB option like before. Hopefully, it’s just a bad hunch.
While the price is still up in the air, what we know for sure is that it will be called the “vivo X500 Pro Max”. Yep, exactly like iPhones.
Xiaomi took the lead here, naming its mid-flagships the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max last year. It even skipped a number to line up exactly with Apple. Turns out, Xiaomi just took down a wall, because vivo is following suit this year. And not just vivo, Oppo is also calling its 2026 flagship the Find X10 Pro Max.
That’s just how things are now, I guess. Whatever. But this name change raises another question: what’s the hierarchy in vivo’s lineup? Is the Pro Max higher than last year’s X300 Pro?
Well, it appears the X500 Pro Max is actually its successor, which would put it on a similar level. Last year, the hierarchy was X300s, X300, X300 Pro and X300 Ultra. There was an FE variant as well, but let’s not complicate things.
This year there’s no “s” option, and the X500 sits at the bottom of the barrel. The Pro follows, then the Pro Max, and the Ultra should join the lineup sometime in the first or second quarter of 2027.
That said, let’s just focus on the phone that will make it to Nepal, i.e. the vivo X500 Pro Max.
Vivo X500 Pro Max Overview
vivo flagships have made their reputation as camera phones, and rightfully so. So, let’s start with the cameras, which do seem to have not changed much. We still get a triple-camera setup led by a 50MP main sensor. We then have a 200MP periscope telephoto and a 50MP ultrawide. Meanwhile, for selfies, there is a 50MP sensor as well.
The main sensor is still a co-partnership with Sony, sized 1/1.28-inch. However, the sensor is now called Phantom 900 instead of LYT-828. The sensor is upgraded to offer 17EV of dynamic range. Likewise, the telephoto sensor now offers optical zoom at 3.5x instead of 3.7x.

So, while the camera-related numbers all look the same, vivo has made some tweaks here and there, with improvements focused on videography, according to early testers. The Creator Kit we are getting this time also seems to suggest the same, with videography-centric rigs like tripod mounts.
There is also a vivo Snapshot screen — a 3.92-inch touchscreen that can attach to the back of the phone to serve as a selfie viewfinder or remote camera control. It is almost the same as the Oppo Bubble we saw with the Oppo Reno16.

All in all, we aren’t getting any major changes with the cameras this time. However, that’s not the case with the rest of the phone, because there are plenty of hardware changes.
Firstly, the phone has grown in size, which also means we are getting a larger display. The vivo X500 Pro Max comes with a 6.85-inch OLED panel, which is larger than the Ultra option vivo offered last year.
It not only grew in size, but also in resolution: now stretching 1440 x 3168 pixels while maintaining a pixel density of over 500 PPI. Additionally, the phone can now offer up to a 144Hz refresh rate, while we were previously capped at 120Hz.

Likewise, the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro handles the compute, which is built on the bleeding-edge 2nm process. The performance was already less of a concern with the X300 Pro. Now, with promised numbers like a 17% improvement in single-core and a 27% GPU peak performance improvement, the concern is even less now. The more powerful chip is paired with a 32% larger vapour chamber to better manage the heat as well.

vivo has bumped the battery size on the X500 Pro Max up to 8,000mAh with silicon content exceeding 25%. The charging remains unchanged at 90W wired and 40W wireless, which is still blazing fast. The brand does not mention anything about reverse charging, so we’d assume nothing interesting is going on there. That’s a bit of a bummer considering Xiaomi is capable of doubling down as a power bank as well.
Lastly, for software, we are getting OriginOS 7 based on Android 17. The brand is set to offer five years of software updates and seven years of security patches.

The cameras on vivo flagships have been one of — if not the best in the world for a few years now. There is only so much improvement that can be made to something that’s already near the pinnacle. Maybe that’s why vivo focused on the rest of the phone instead.
The phone has grown bigger, with a larger, higher-resolution display and a smoother refresh rate. Its performance is even more powerful, and the battery has massively grown.
Hence, we can say vivo has widened its focus beyond the camera and provided good upgrades in other aspects of the phone, which is still a win for consumers.
