Xiaomi has a reputation for providing value-for-money deals. That’s generally been the case with smartphones. But looking at the two new TV series Xiaomi just launched in Nepal — the A Pro 2026 Series and the S Mini LED 2026 Series — I would say that reputation extends to TVs as well.

There are a few things to get excited about with these TVs, including the price. Here, we focus on the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series, the more expensive option between the two. How expensive is this more expensive option really? Let’s find out!

There’s never a harm in asking!

Even if you don’t manage to get a discount or a freebie, you are still getting a really, really good television in your home. There’s much to cover about the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series, so without further ado, let’s get into it!

Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series Overview

The Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series has a near bezel-less silhouette — stress on near, as most of the bezel is concentrated on the bottom chin. But that chin should pretty much disappear when you’re immersed in content on the massive 55” or 65” panel with 97% and 98% screen-to-body ratio, respectively.

What drives this immersion is its high-quality 4K resolution and the fact that it is a QD-Mini LED display! If you aren’t familiar with TV jargon, you should know this much: it is as good as a display can get without moving to OLED or microLED. So, what’s QD-Mini LED exactly?

It’s still an LCD, but a much more advanced one. In a traditional LCD, the backlight is either uniformly lit or divided into relatively few dimming regions. This gives you a “blooming” effect, where the light bleeds into darker areas of content, creating a grey tone instead of deep blacks in dark scenes.

But with a Mini LED display, those backlight sources are divided into many, many zones that function independently. In the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026, that’s 308 zones in the 55-inch model. Meanwhile, the 65-inch model takes that even further with 384 dimming zones.

The advantage of this many backlighting zones is that one area of the TV can be brighter and another can be dimmer. This way, the mini LED TVs can have amazing contrast unlike traditional LCDs.

Xiaomi is so confident that they are claiming the S Mini LED 2026 Series gives you “OLED-level pure blacks”, and with the capability to drop the brightness as low as 0.0001 nits, it might as well be. But would I bet my money on that claim? Still no.

At the other end, the TV reaches 1,200 nits. And with such a wide range of brightness, dynamic range should be really good as well.

The other area where LCD panels usually lag behind their OLED counterparts is the richness of their colours. This is where the QD in the QD-Mini LED comes in, which stands for Quantum Dot technology. While the technology may have “quantum” in its name, it isn’t that complicated.

It is like a colour-conversion layer in the TV that helps produce more accurate colours. On this TV, that translates to 1.07 billion colours and 94% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut.

The Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series even comes with a “Vivid Colour Engine” and a “Global Dimming Engine”, which are just cool names for software tricks that enhance the colours and contrast of your content.

Then there are the light sensors, which match the screen brightness and colour temperature to your ambient lighting. It also offers high-frequency hybrid dimming of up to 20KHz to help reduce eye strain.

The coolest feature, though, is probably Game Boost Mode, which pushes the TV’s refresh rate to 120Hz, reducing motion blur and making games look buttery smooth. But for this, the resolution has to drop to 1080p or 1440p. And in case you want things running at 4K, you will have to stay at a native refresh rate of 60Hz.

All these features are kept running smoothly by a quad-core Cortex-A55 processor paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. That’s not bleeding edge as far as silicon goes, but it’s enough for a TV.

As for software, it is a Google TV, giving it access to thousands of apps through the Play Store, built-in Google Assistant, and Google Cast (and Miracast) support. It also works with Apple AirPlay, allowing you to stream films, music, games, and photos from your Apple devices.

The audio on the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026 Series is handled by dual 15W speakers for a combined 30W output, which is plenty loud for home use. It even has Dolby Audio and DTS:X certification.

However, it is still just stereo speakers and won’t be as immersive as a multi-channel sound system. The good thing is the TV supports eARC, so it can push high-quality sound to an external sound system without compromise.

For controls, you get a remote that talks to your TV via Bluetooth v5.0 with 360° control. It has shortcuts for Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, Live TV, and Xiaomi TV+, which is the brand’s library of live TV channels that you can watch through the internet. Talking of internet, it comes with WiFi 5 with dual-band support as well as an Ethernet (LAN) port.

Other I/O includes one 3-in-1 AV jack, one USB 2.0, one Optical Digital Audio Out, two HDMI 2.0 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port. The HDMI ports also support CEC and ALLM.

The former lets up to 15 connected devices talk to each other and be controlled with a single remote. Adjust the volume on your TV remote and your soundbar follows, or switch your console on and the TV wakes up as well.

Meanwhile, ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) is mainly for those who game on their TV. Turn your console on, and the TV drops straight into game mode, cutting latency so your controller inputs feel snappier.

If you are looking for Mini LED TVs in Nepal, the options are rather limited. Xiaomi comes in and serves as a perfect, safe option for consumers. It’s a name you can trust, and the specs are just on point.

Talking of substitutions, you could go with the Samsung Neo QLED TV series, which is available for a very similar price to the Xiaomi TV S Mini LED 2026, at least for the 55-inch option. Given Samsung’s reputation, the picture quality must be top-notch. However, Samsung TVs boot on TizenOS, which may or may not be to your taste.

Likewise, TCL C6KS is another option you could go with, which is quite a bit more affordable than Xiaomi. But it is a bit of an older model, and Xiaomi edges it out in specs.
