ZTE nubia NEO 3 Launched in Nepal: A Year and a Half Late, But It Still Feels Fresh

The nubia NEO series is ZTE’s attempt at catering to budget gamers. ZTE first entered the gaming smartphone market in Nepal in 2025 with the NEO 3 GT. Now, as we near the end of 2026, ZTE is bringing in the smaller sibling of the NEO 3 GT out of nowhere, and it’s called the nubia NEO 3.

I say out of nowhere because we’ve already gotten the nubia NEO 5, the NEO 3’s successor, along with the NEO 5 GT and the NEO 5 GT Special Edition. So bringing in a smaller sibling to the already aging NEO 3 GT is a questionable move.

What is the Price of ZTE nubia NEO 3 in Nepal?

Sure, it has been a while since the phone launched globally. But that’s a huge advantage for the NEO 3, cause it’s untouched by the current price hikes.

The ZTE nubia NEO 3 price in Nepal is Rs. 40,999 for the sole 8/256GB variant. And compared to what’s currently available on the market, I think they’ve priced it very aggressively.

The phone launched alongside the nubia NEO 5 GT Special Edition. Both phones are available on 0% EMI, and you can buy them via Daraz or your nearest authorized ZTE dealer.

When it comes to budget gaming phones, Nepal hasn’t really seen one in 2026. There were 2025 bangers like the Infinix GT 30, but nearing the end of 2026, they’re all sold out now.

And with almost every phone launching around Rs. 40,000 coming with an HD+ screen, a 4G processor, or a low memory configuration, the nubia NEO 3 is doing something different. It’s got a better display, a decent processor, and more memory.

ZTE nubia NEO 3 Overview

ZTE always goes over the top with the nubia NEO series when it comes to design. The latest NEO 5 toned it down with a subtle gaming aesthetic with a bit of RGB. The NEO 3 is not subtle-looking. It goes all in with a futuristic mecha design and RGB lighting, much like its predecessors, the NEO 2 and the original NEO.

The NEO 3 comes in Shadow Black, Cyber Silver, and a classic-looking Titanium Gold.

For a gaming phone, shoulder triggers are a must-have, and it’s good to see the nubia NEO 3 feature them too.

The display is where things start to get interesting, cause the NEO 3 features an FHD+ panel. It’s a 6.8-inch 120Hz IPS panel, not AMOLED, so you’ll miss out on those true blacks. But I’m not complaining, as 2026 phones in this range have started offering HD+ screens.

I mean, even the NEO 3’s successor, the NEO 5, technically only has an HD+ panel. So you’re getting more pixels on the NEO 3.

For audio, there are dual stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra that, according to nubia, deliver 360° audio. Whether that holds up in real use, we’ll have to wait and find out.

To handle all that gaming, the NEO 3 features a UNISOC T8300 chipset. It’s not a popular SoC. In fact, the NEO 3 is the only phone in Nepal to feature it, and even globally, only a handful of smartphones have. Regardless, it’s a 5G SoC and competes with chips like the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 in terms of raw performance.

Another area where the NEO 3 demolishes the competition is its 8/256GB memory. This configuration only starts to become common at or above Rs. 45,000, and even then, most rivals feature a 4G chipset or an HD+ panel.

Cooling is another aspect that needs to be efficient on a gaming phone. ZTE claims the NEO 3 is equipped with a high-efficiency heat dissipation system, but it doesn’t list a vapour chamber or cooling area. So how well it handles long sessions is something we’ll have to see.

The camera department has never been a strong point for a gaming phone, and the NEO 3 is no exception. It runs a pretty basic setup that’s been unchanged since the NEO 2, and we saw it on the NEO 5 as well. That’s a 50MP main camera and a 2MP depth sensor, along with a 16MP selfie shooter up front.

Battery is the one thing that has been improving on most phones, even budget ones, so the NEO 3’s 6,000mAh unit isn’t that impressive, with 7,000mAh already becoming more common at this price. But 6,000mAh isn’t bad either and should easily last a day or more. You also get 33W wired charging along with bypass charging.

Lastly, the phone boots on Android 15 with MyOS 15 on top. This is easily its biggest disadvantage. With Android 17 already out, it’s two generations behind.

The nubia NEO 3, despite being a year and a half old, feels like a breath of fresh air, especially because of its display and memory configuration. In terms of raw performance, it’s easily one of the better phones around Rs. 40,000.

Sure, it has some drawbacks, like an older Android version and a basic camera setup. But it gives you things most phones at this price simply don’t combine: an FHD+ display, a 5G chip, 8/256GB memory, and actual shoulder triggers. That’s a refreshing change in a market where almost everything else compromises on at least one of them.

The real test will be how the T8300 holds up in long gaming sessions. Still, for anyone wanting a budget gaming phone that doesn’t feel like a budget phone, the NEO 3 is hard to ignore.
