Nubia V80 Max Gets Another Price Hike: Can the 6,000mAh Battery Save It?

ZTE’s comeback to the Nepali smartphone market needs to be studied. They started with their entry-level Nubia and Blade lineup and gradually expanded all the way to the RedMagic series, their most premium lineup. But as good as their comeback has been, they couldn’t avoid the inevitable price hikes that most smartphone brands have suffered in 2026. And the V80 Max wasn’t spared. This is its second price hike, and it looks like a massive one, or is it?

Before the price hike, the Nubia V80 Max stood out with its massive 6,000mAh battery. But deep into 2026, a 6,000mAh battery seems like just another standard feature. And now with the price hike, the V80 Max seems to be missing some of its value-for-money appeal. So, the real question is, is the Nubia V80 Max still worth considering in 2026?

The V80 Max is the successor to last year’s V70 Max. That phone was unique, and back then, ZTE had a real chance to stand out and create something of its own, instead of borrowing heavily from the designs of bigger players. But now, it seems like most ZTE launches lean heavily on design cues from brands like iPhone and Samsung.

That wouldn’t be a problem if the specs on these phones were competitive, but sadly, they often aren’t. Hopefully, the nubia V80 Max takes a step in the right direction.

ZTE has never shied away from “taking inspiration” from popular design trends. This time, with the V80 Max, they’ve done it again, drawing cues from Samsung’s flagship design language.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though. The V80 Max looks cleaner than ever, sporting a more minimalistic design. On top of that, ZTE has upgraded the phone’s ingress protection from IP54 to IP64, which is a welcome improvement.

On the front, you’re greeted by about as large a display as a phone can get: a 6.9-inch HD+ screen. Fun fact: this is the same display setup we saw on the Nubia V70 Max last year. But at least brightness is now upgraded to 780nits which is 41.8% brighter compared to V70 Max, according to ZTE. And yes, it still comes with that rather dated water-drop notch.

Powering the V80 Max is the UNISOC T7250 chipset, also known as the UNISOC T615. To put things into perspective, this is the same processor found in phones like the Redmi A5 and Ai+ Nova, both of which are priced under Rs. 15,000. So, purely on paper, the V80 Max doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of performance.

And with the 128GB variant sold out and only the 256GB variant available, it does not make sense to spend that much for just a UNISOC T615.

And speaking of value, the camera setup follows a similar story. It’s identical to the V70 Max, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a third AI camera. The only real upgrade here is on the front, where you now get a 16MP selfie camera.

On a more positive note, the phone packs a 6,000mAh battery paired with 22.5W fast charging, which is quite impressive at this price. Especially when you consider how limited the options are if you want a large battery with reasonably fast charging in this segment.

Finally, the V80 Max ships with Android 16, layered with MyOS 16 on top. They’ve also added a host of AI features, such as AI Night Charging, which learns your charging habits to reduce overnight battery stress, along with AI scam alerts, AI wallpapers, AI social publishing, and AI filters, features that sound impressive on paper, but it looks like they are just throwing the keyword “AI” to everything.

Just like the V70 Max last year, the V80 Max doesn’t offer many changes. The processor sees only a slight upgrade compared to last year, but it still isn’t a great value, especially when you can get a solid 4G chip like the Helio G99 or even a 5G processor like the UNISOC T760 at this price, or possibly even lower.

As with last year’s model, the main highlight here is the battery life. No other phone in this price range comes close to matching its endurance. So if long-lasting battery performance is your top priority, the V80 Max still delivers. But at Rs. 27,000, alternatives like the Samsung Galaxy A07 or the Redmi 15 offer far better performance and overall excellent value for money.
