Tecno Spark 20 with Helio G85 Processor Launched in Nepal

Tecno launched its new smartphone, the Tecno Spark 20, in March 2024 in Nepal. The device is the successor to the Tecno Spark 10 and is priced in the entry-level segment.

The Tecno Spark 20 sports a MediaTek Helio G85 processor, a 90Hz IPS LCD display, Android 13 with HiOS skin applied on top, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication.

Tecno Spark 20 Overview

Design

The general shape, camera island arrangement, and design language of the Tecno Spark 20 have a strong resemblance to the iPhone Pro series. The back panel and rails of the smartphone are composed entirely of plastic, as is most of the device’s structure. The device is certified IP53 dust and water-resistant.

The front of the Spark 20 has a center-aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. There is a noticeable chin on the bottom of the display which makes the screen bezel look uneven.

On the underside, the device has a USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack and cutout for the bottom speaker grille. The device comes with stereo speakers.

Display

The 6.6-inch IPS LCD display on the Tecno Spark 20 has a resolution of 720 x 1612 pixels. The display has a peak brightness of 480nits and a refresh rate that can switch between 60Hz and 90Hz.

Via software feature, the camera cutout of the display expands and shows various useful information like notifications and battery charge percentage, similar to the Dynamic Island on the iPhones.

Hardware

A MediaTek Helio G85 octa-core CPU powers the smartphone. The CPU features six power-efficient Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz and two powerful Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0 GHz. A Mali-G57 processor manages graphics.

The Helio G85 is an affordable processor with good performance that can easily handle daily work and light gaming. The performance of the Tecno Spark 20 is comparable to other entry-level smartphone like the Redmi 13C.

Tecno’s marketing states that the device comes with 16 GB of RAM which can be misleading to users. The device actually comes with only 8 GB of RAM onboard.

The rest 8 GB is achieved through memory virtualization where devices compensate the lack of RAM by using part of the onboard storage to act as RAM.

The device has 256 GB of internal storage with support for expandable storage in the form of microSD card.

Camera

The Tecno Spark 20 comes with a 50MP camera with an f/1.6 aperture lens that can record videos up to 1440p at 30 fps. Additionally, the flash module is located inside a cutout that looks like a camera, giving the smartphone an appearance of having three cameras.

The selfie camera is a 32MP shooter with an aperture of f/2.2 that is housed inside a punch-hole cutout on the display. It can record videos up to 1080p at 30 fps. The selfie camera also sports a flash module of its own.

Battery and OS

The device is powered by a non-removable 5000mAh battery that supports 18W wired charging through a USB Type-C cable.

The device runs on Android 13 with Tecno’s custom HiOS 13 skin applied on top.

Tecno Spark 20 Price in Nepal and Availability

The Tecno Spark 20 price in Nepal is Rs. 17,990 (8/256GB). You can purchase the device at physical stores or online.

For its price range, the Tecno Spark 20 is a good smartphone with satisfactory performance. It has a huge 6.6-inch 90Hz display and a Type-C port for charging.
