Galaxy Watch Ultra2: Samsung’s First Si/C Battery Smartwatch Launching Soon in Nepal

Ever since the third generation of foldable smartphones from Samsung, they have always paired the launch of the new generation of Galaxy Watches with the new generation of flip phones. This year, along with the Fold8 and Flip8 phones, we are getting the Watch Ultra2 and the Watch9.

Given the hype around foldable smartphones, the fold phones almost always outshine the Galaxy Watches. But this year, Samsung gave us the big boy, the Ultra2.

And it definitely gets some attention, cause we did not get an Ultra watch from Samsung last year. So it’s basically returning after 2 years, which is a long enough gap for it to get some massive and generational upgrades. Which I am quite excited for.

If you keep up with flagship smartwatch launches, the watch’s name might feel like deja vu, cause it’s not the first time we’ve seen a Watch Ultra 2. Apple launched a Watch Ultra 2 all the way back in 2023. Now it looks like it’s Samsung’s turn.

Since Samsung is bringing back the Watch Ultra after two years, let me give you some short context on the Ultra series, as buyers may have already forgotten why the Ultra was introduced in the first place.

Well, Ultra smartwatches from Samsung are tough as nails, built big and rugged. Strong frame, top-tier IP rating, a big battery, and a ton of features. Let’s see if the second generation of the Samsung Watch Ultra fills the shoes of last time’s Watch Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2 Overview

The Watch Ultra 2 looks very similar to its predecessor. It’s got that same squaricle frame with a circular display like you saw on the Samsung Watch Ultra. It has gotten slightly thinner, by 1.4mm to be precise, and sits at 10.7mm, which is surprising cause it’s got a huge battery.

It packs an 800mAh battery, which is a 35% bigger battery than the Watch Ultra’s 590mAh. However, it only supports 10W fast charging. Still, that’s the biggest battery on any Samsung smartwatch; it’s also a Si/C battery, and it’s the company’s first on a smartwatch.

According to Samsung, you can get up to 60 hours with AOD on and 80 hours with AOD off, which is a lot considering most flagship smartwatches struggle to cross a day or two.

But with a big battery, there comes a compromise, and it’s with weight. It’s quite heavy, sitting at 61.5 grams, so you will likely feel it on your wrist.

But what’s more crucial on a smartwatch is that it should be able to survive harsh conditions. And that’s where the Grade 4 titanium frame comes in. It’s built to take impact head-on while staying light on your wrist, so it holds up to drops, dust, and daily bumps without adding bulk. On top of that, it’s got Sapphire Crystal on the front and a Ceramic back, so it should resist scratches and hold up well over time without dulling or fogging up.

Sadly, there’s no rotating bezel or crown, which is kind of a letdown. If you don’t like using the touchscreen for everything, this might bother you.

But what’s not a letdown is that It’s got a solid protection rating: IP68/69K for dust and water resistance, 10ATM for water pressure, MIL-STD-810H for durability, and EN13319, a diving instrument certification, meaning the watch is officially built and tested to handle real underwater use, not just splash resistance.

We’ve seen most of these ratings before on flagship smartwatches, but I think what stands out here is the 69K rating. For instance, even Apple’s latest Watch Ultra 3 only gets an IP6X rating.

The display is also nice, with a 1.52-inch Super AMOLED screen, something we’ve seen on Samsung watches for ages. They’ve also crammed in 498 x 498 pixels, outputting 327PPI, so icons and visuals should be as crisp as on a premium smartphone.

But what I liked about the watch is that the brightness peaks at 5,000 nits, even higher than Samsung’s flagship S26 series. Sure, peak brightness isn’t a true measure of how bright a display actually feels in daily use, but it’s still a plus in my opinion.

To handle everything, the Watch Ultra 2 packs a Snapdragon SW6100 Wear Elite chipset with 2GB RAM and 64GB storage.

On the connectivity side, you get LTE support along with Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), dual-band GPS (L1+L5), and NFC for payments. So whether you’re out for a run without your phone or just want tap-to-pay convenience, the Ultra 2 has you covered.

As for software, it runs on Google’s Wear OS 7 with Samsung’s One UI Watch 9 on top, and just like the Watch 8 series, it also gets Google Gemini built in. Except here, you don’t even need to press anything; just raise your wrist and start talking, and Gemini responds instantly.

On the health side, the Ultra 2 comes loaded with Samsung Health features like Energy Score, which tells you whether to push hard or recover based on your sleep and activity, Sleep Coaching to help build better sleep habits over time, and sleep apnea detection that monitors your blood oxygen levels through the night. There’s also a Heart Health Score, Vitals tracking, and blood pressure trend monitoring, so overall, it’s a pretty complete health package on top of all the outdoor durability.

The Watch Ultra2 does not reinvent the formula, but the improvements it brings are the right ones. Battery life was the biggest complaint with the original Ultra, and Samsung has fixed exactly that. On top of that, the watch is now slimmer and lighter to wear. So the upgrade actually shows up in daily use, not just on a spec sheet.

That said, it is still a big, heavy watch built for big wrists. If you were hoping for a dramatic redesign, you won’t find one here.

For Nepal, the real question comes down to price. If it lands anywhere close to my estimate, this becomes a tough sell against the regular Watch9 for anyone who doesn’t specifically need the ruggedness. But if you do want that big battery and outdoor durability, the Ultra2 looks like the most complete Galaxy Watch Samsung has made so far.
