The Most Affordable Samsung Smartphone in Nepal Gets Expensive!

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Samsung Galaxy A07 price in Nepal starts at Rs. 18,999 (4/64GB).
  • The MediaTek Helio G99 powers this phone.
  • You also get a 90Hz screen and qualify for six years of software support.

Samsung Galaxy A07 topped our list of best phones under Rs. 15,000 and ranked pretty well in the Rs. 20,000 list, too, which is a testament to how solid a device it was. But now, the phone has seen a hefty price jump. Where does that leave this phone?

While all the brands were increasing the price of their phones, some doing so twice, Samsung, on the other hand, seemed unbothered. But it seems that even the mighty Samsung could not remain unfazed from the “price hike tsunami” brought forth by the AI bubble.

Before the current phone price chaos, the Samsung Galaxy A07 saw only a measly Rs. 500 increase over the Galaxy A06, which was perfectly justifiable for the upgrades we got.

What were those upgrades? Let’s check them out:

Samsung Galaxy A07 Overview

Design and Build

The Samsung Galaxy A07 carries over the design changes we saw on all other A-series members — I am talking about the pill-shaped camera island, of course. Other than that, it’s almost the same.

There are a few tweaks in the phone’s build, though. Firstly, the Samsung Galaxy A07 is IP54-rated. The Galaxy A06, in comparison, did not have any such certifications.

The front glass on the Samsung Galaxy A07 has gone through a two-step tempering process. The previous model had just one-step tempered glass — so, in other words, even tougher front glass.

Likewise, the back panel is now made of GFRP (Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer) instead of “Glastic”. Although their names may have you believe that they are the same thing, they aren’t!

Glastic is a marketing term usually referring to plastic with a glass-like coating. It could also be used for a thin sheet of glass sandwiched between plastic sheets.

Meanwhile, GFRP is an actual composite material, where plastic is infused with glass fibres during the manufacturing process. This material also has a stronger structural makeup than the aforementioned Glastic.

Display

The phone’s display remains almost unchanged from the previous year; it’s still a 6.7-inch unit. It’s still a PLS LCD panel. And, it’s still HD+ in resolution and has a U-cut notch. What has changed is the refresh rate! It has now been bumped up to 90Hz from the baseline 60Hz.

That’s great and all, but cheaper phones are flaunting 120Hz these days. So, it would be absolutely amazing if Samsung could do the same. But what would be even better is bumping up the screen resolution to FHD+. I mean, a 720p screen from a brand like Samsung just doesn’t feel right!

That was the main complaint we had in our Samsung Galaxy A07 review, which you can check out right here:

Helio G99?!

Now this is where I did not see Samsung taking a leap as it did. Let me preface this: the Samsung Galaxy A17 has the same Exynos 1330 chip that powered the A16. Similarly, the Galaxy A36‘s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 was basically a sidegrade to the Exynos 1380 on the Galaxy A35.

So, I was fully expecting Samsung to ship the Galaxy A07 with the same Helio G85 as last year (and the year before that). But nope, they went ahead and shipped the thing with the MediaTek Helio G99!

What makes this even bigger is that there were still options between the Helio G81 and G99, like the G91 or G92, or G95, even. Samsung could have picked any of those chips and called it a day, but they went with THE G99! So, thank you, Samsung!

Now, you might be thinking: isn’t the G99 a bit old to get all excited about, especially since the Helio G100 and G200 have already succeeded it? To that, I say all three chips still benchmark in a similar ballpark. And a jump of up to 77% from the G85 is indeed worth getting excited about!

On top of that, the Galaxy A07 became the cheapest phone to rock the Helio G99, dethroning the Itel RS 4. Still is. But the supporting hardware feels a bit weak for the price now. Which brings me to the next topic:

Other Hardware

Accompanying the G99 is up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. But that’s elsewhere in the world. We, the Nepali audiences, are only getting the 4/64GB, 4/128GB, and 6/128GB variants, just like we did with the A06. A 256GB option would have been nice.

Even though we don’t get it, it’s not the end of the world, because the Samsung Galaxy A07 supports external storage expansion. And the cool part? The microSD card support has jumped to 2TB, from 1.5TB. And it’s a dedicated slot too!.

That’s about all the hardware upgrades we are getting this year.

The powerhouse remains at 5,000mAh, and charging speed remains unchanged at 25W. As it has been for many years, we do not get a charger in the box. But again, as has been the case for many years, Samsung Nepal is bundling an official 25W charger for no extra cost.

Camera and Software

The optics department does not see any changes either. The Samsung Galaxy A07 has the same 50MP main shooter paired with a 2MP depth sensor on the back. Meanwhile, the front camera is an 8MP snapper. Both cameras are capable of recording videos at FHD@30FPS.

Software-wise, we are getting Android 15 out of the box with OneUI 7 on top. In terms of updates, the Samsung Galaxy A07 also qualifies for six years of new OS and six years of security patches. That’s a massive jump from the 2+4 years of respective updates we previously got.

Also, this is probably the first time we saw such futureproofing at a budget like this.

Samsung Galaxy A07 Price in Nepal and Availability

The official price of the Samsung Galaxy A07 right now is Rs. 18,999 (4/64GB), Rs. 22,499 (4/128GB), and Rs. 26,999 (6/128GB). Customers get a free 25W Samsung charger with the phone.

Samsung Galaxy A07 Launch Price in Nepal Current Price in Nepal Freebies
4/64GB Rs. 15,999 Rs. 18,999 Official 25W Charging Adapter
4/128GB Rs. 17,999 Rs. 22,499 Official 25W Charging Adapter
6/128GB Rs. 19,999 Rs. 26,999 Official 25W Charging Adapter

The Samsung Galaxy A07 brings exciting upgrades, including a 90Hz screen, better build materials, and external storage support of up to 2TB. But most importantly, it comes with the MediaTek Helio G99, and it is the most affordable phone to do so. Not only that, Samsung has doubled down on what differentiates it from its competition — software and support.

But with the recent price hike, the phone has completely lost its edge. By adding Rs. 1,000, you can get something like the HMD Crest, which comes with an OLED screen or the Motorola Moto G35, which has a very premium design and an ultrawide snapper. On top of that, both phones have the UNISOC T760 chip, which is not only more powerful than the G99 but also supports 5G connectivity.

So, as it stands, getting the Galaxy A07 only makes sense if you WANT the six years of software support. Otherwise, the phone isn’t worth it right now. Maybe it’ll be a better deal if all other phones see equally heavy price jumps.
