OnePlus 12R Overview

Design

Similar to the flagship OnePlus 12, the OnePlus 12R has a circular camera ring design at the back that blends with the frame and houses three cameras and a flash arranged in a grid. There is another LED flash that resides outside the island.

The back has a glossy finish that attracts fingerprint smudges. The frame of the phone is made of aluminum, giving it a premium feel and durable build.

The device has a thickness of 8.8mm and weighs 207 grams. Moreover, the top of the phone has a secondary mic, an IR blaster, and a secondary speaker. The primary speaker is on the bottom side alongside the USB-C port, the primary mic, and a SIM card tray.

Additionally, OnePlus’ signature alert slider can be seen on the left side of the phone. And as expected, the power and volume buttons are located on the right side.

Display

The OnePlus 12R has a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED display with LTPO 4 technology that enables the phone to change its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz quickly and smartly.

It is a 10-bit display with a 1.5K resolution (2780 x 1264 px) that supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+. OnePlus claims it has 4500 nits peak brightness during HDR content and 1600 nits global maximum brightness.

The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. OnePlus says the OnePlus 12R is one of the first phones ever to use its CPU and the screen IC chipset to detect wetness and react accordingly to avoid mistouches or delayed reactions.

Furthermore, it has a 2160Hz PWM dimming technology and natural display tone and brightness adjustment to match the display to the ambient surroundings for better eye comfort.

Hardware

The OnePlus 12R is equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. It is 2023’s flagship processor by Qualcomm and was also in OnePlus 11.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm technology, has a 1+4+3 setup with four CPU clusters with a combination of a top-performing Arm Cortex-X3 core (up to 3.2GHz) and three energy-efficient Cortex-A510 (up to 2.0GHz) cores.

The processor has utilized two different CPU cores in the performance cluster, comprising two Arm Cortex-A715 cores and two Cortex-A710 cores, all at up to 2.8GHz clock speed.

The chipset is paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM with 256GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The phone also supports Dolby Atmos sound for listening to 3D sound with spatial-audio-supported earphones.

Camera

The 12R has a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary camera sensor with OIS accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide Sony IMX355 camera sensor and a 2MP macro camera.

The front has a 16MP selfie camera. In terms of video, the back can shoot up to 4K video at 30fps, while the front is limited to 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and OS

The OnePlus 12R comes with a large 5500mAh battery that supports 100W fast charging. It is the largest battery in any OnePlus phone and OnePlus claims in just 26 minutes, the phone can be charged from 1% to 100%.

Out of the box, the phone runs on OxygenOS 14 based on Android 14.
