OnePlus 12, the flagship phone from OnePlus, is finally available for purchase in Nepal. Announced in the country on January 30, 2024, along with the OnePlus 12R and OnePlus Nord N30 SE, the OnePlus 12 was available for pre-order until March 1.

The smartphone is OnePlus’s flagship device that succeeds the OnePlus 11. For starters, the flagship smartphone of OnePlus for 2024 uses Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, has 4500 nits peak display brightness, has 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, and 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

OnePlus 12 Overview

Design

At a glance, the OnePlus 12 does not see many changes from its predecessor, the OnePlus 11. It has the same large circular rear camera island that blends with the side metal frame. However, it is both bigger and heavier than before.

If you look closely, you will also notice there are other small changes. Yes, the text is different! The Hasselblad branding is now reduced to just its initial, and there are details specifying the aperture and focal length of each of the three cameras.

But also, the island is now bigger, and the LED flash is now outside the circular island. The fourth small circle, where the flash used to be on the OnePlus 11, now houses what appears to be another small flash and some sensors.

Another change is that the alert slider of the OnePlus 12 has switched sides with the volume buttons. The volume buttons are now located on the right side above the power button, while the alert slider has now been moved to the left side.

Display

The OnePlus 12 offers an impressive 6.82-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. The LTPO technology enables the display to dynamically adjust its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz.

What’s even more impressive about the OnePlus 12 is that its display panel, manufactured by BOE, boasts a peak brightness of 4500 nits for HDR content. Additionally, during normal usage, such as under sunlight, the display can achieve a brightness of 1600 nits.

The display also features a 2160Hz PWM dimming feature to reduce the likelihood of eye strain caused by screen flickering.

Hardware

Succeeding the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the OnePlus 12 comes equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 includes Arm’s Cortex-X4 big core, Cortex-A720 medium cores, and Cortex-A520 cores in a 1+(3+2)+2 core layout, clocked at 3.3GHz, 3.2GHz, 3.0GHz, and 2.3GHz respectively.

All the CPU cores of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 are now the latest 64-bit-only Arm cores, meaning that it will not be able to run legacy 32-bit apps (AAarch32) and only 64-bit apps (AAarch64).

Qualcomm claims the CPU gains 30% performance improvement and 20% improved power efficiency. Plus, the new GPU yields 25% faster graphics rendering and 25% improved GPU power efficiency.

For memory, the OnePlus 12 comes with 16GB RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0 storage.

Camera

The OnePlus 12 is packed with a great set of cameras. The main camera is Sony’s new 50MP LYTIA 808 “Pixel Stacked” sensor.

This is also the same sensor OnePlus used on the brand’s first foldable smartphone, OnePlus Open (unfortunately not available in Nepal), known for capturing incredible photos.

The other two cameras are the 64MP OV64B telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom (up from 2x) and the 48MP Sony IMX581 ultrawide camera.

Battery and OS

As for the battery, the OnePlus 12 also has a larger 5400mAh battery. Additionally, it supports 100W “SuperVOOC” wired and 50W wireless charging.

Out of the box, the phone runs on the latest Android 14 topped with OxygenOS 14.
