Samsung Galaxy S23 FE Overview

Design

For the first time in the S FE series, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE features a glass back. Both the front and back are protected by Gorilla Glass 5. Coupled with the aluminum frame, the S23 FE gives a premium feel this year.

Samsung’s consistent design approach is also evident in the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. The three vertically arranged standalone cameras on the back make it difficult to distinguish the S23 FE from the S series and the A series of 2023.

Additionally, the phone comes with an IP68 rating, which means it can withstand submersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes.

Display

The phone has a 6.4-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with FHD+ resolution. It has a resolution of up to 120Hz. Unlike the LTPO display of the S23 series, it cannot go as low as 1Hz.

Samsung claims the display can achieve peak brightness of up to 1450 nits. The display has a punch-hole cutout for the camera.

Hardware

Although in the USA and Canada, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE comes with last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, in Nepal and other parts of the world, the phone is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 2200.

Announced in January 2022, it was Samsung’s flagship processor that powered the Samsung Galaxy S22 series in Europe.

The chipset is built on a 4nm process and is designed in a tri-cluster structure comprised of a single powerful Arm Cortex-X2 flagship-core, three performance and efficiency-balanced Cortex-A710 big-cores, and four power-efficient Cortex-A510 little-cores.

Samsung collaborated with AMD, a multinational semiconductor company, to bring Samsung’s Xclipse GPU, which is based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, to the processor.

The RDNA 2 architecture is the same architecture featured in the PlayStation 5 and AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series of graphics cards.

The collaboration enabled the Exynos 2200 to support hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) for the first time in a mobile processor and variable rate shading (VRS).

The device comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Camera

There is a new 50MP main camera (up from 12MP) in the triple camera setup on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE. It comes with both video digital image stabilization (VDIS) and optical image stabilization (OIS) for stable shots.

Like its predecessor, accompanying the main camera are a 12MP ultra-wide camera and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.

Additionally, there is a new 10MP selfie camera on the front of the phone. As for video, the rear camera can shoot up to 8K video at 24fps and 4K video at 30fps.

Battery and OS

The device comes with a 4500mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging. Moreover, the phone also supports wireless charging.

Out of the box, it comes with Android 13 installed topped with One UI 5.1 skin. It will get 4 years of major software upgrades and 5 years of security updates.
