Infinix Smart 8 Pro with 90Hz Display Launched in Nepal

Following the launch of the Infinix Smart 8, Infinix has expanded its Smart 8 series of smartphones with the new launches including the Infinix Smart 8 Pro and the Infinix Smart 8 Plus.

The Infinix Smart 8 Pro is an entry-level phone that comes with a Helio G36 chipset, a 5000mAh battery, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Both 64GB and 128GB models launched in Nepal come with 4GB RAM. Don’t fall for the marketing tricks that say they both have 8GB RAM.

The phone supports virtual RAM, which lets the phone to expand its RAM using the slower storage, which may be beneficial to some extent, but it does not mean it will increase the physical RAM of the device.

Infinix Smart 8 Pro Overview

Design

The Infinix Smart 8 Pro has an anti-glare matte plastic back with a huge squircle camera module housing a dual camera system and a ring-shaped flash.

The camera module design looks similar to that of the Infinix Hot 40i, and it’s not hidden that they both drew inspiration from recent iPhone Pro series devices.

Furthermore, the power button, which also acts as a fingerprint sensor, is located on the right side of the device, beneath the volume buttons. The SIM card tray on the left can hold two SIM cards, and also has a dedicated microSD card slot.

Moreover, the bottom side houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, a mic, a USB-C port, and a mono speaker.

Display

The phone features a 6.6-inch IPS LCD display with an HD+ resolution. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate support and a modern punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera, both of which are rare in entry-level phones like this.

In terms of brightness, Infinix has mentioned a peak brightness of 500 nits.

Hardware

The Infinix Smart 8 Pro is powered by the entry-level octa-core chipset MediaTek Helio G36. It is manufactured using a 12nm fabrication process and has two Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 1.6GHz.

The phone comes with either 64GB or 128GB storage, both with 4GB RAM. Users will be able to insert a microSD card for more storage. You may see Infinix advertising the Smart 8 Pro as having 8GB RAM, but it is using 4GB virtual memory on top of the actual 4GB RAM.

Camera

The Smart 8 Pro comes with a 50MP main camera on the rear. The secondary “AI lens” has no known meaningful purpose.

The front has an 8MP selfie camera. The phone is capable of shooting up to 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and OS

The phone is fueled by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 10W charging. 

It comes with Android 13 (Go edition) out of the box with the XOS 13 skin on top of it. Android 13 Go edition is a lighter version of the Android operating system, designed for low-end smartphones with limited RAM and storage.

Additionally, just like Apple’s Dynamic Island, the Smart 8 Pro has a software feature to show real-time information about charging status and voice calls around the front camera cutout.

The Infinix Smart 8 Pro price in Nepal is Rs. 12,999 (4/64GB) and Rs. 13,499 (4/128GB). The phone is available for purchase at retail stores across the country.
