Hyundai Creta EV is coming to Nepal.
Laxmi Intercontinental Pvt. Ltd., the authorized distributor of Hyundai cars in Nepal, plans to introduce the electric version of its best-selling SUV, the Hyundai Creta EV.
Hyundai aims to strengthen its position in the mid-size SUV segment with the Creta EV, leveraging the popularity of the ICE version of the Creta. While Hyundai already offers the Kona in this category, it has not performed as expected.
To keep costs under control and streamline manufacturing, Hyundai has chosen a modified version of the ICE Creta’s K2 platform for the Creta EV.
This approach avoids the expenses associated with developing an entirely new platform, making the Creta EV a more economical and strategic offering for the market.
Hyundai India will officially launch the Creta EV at the Bharat Mobility Expo on January 17, 2024, and will come to Nepal in February.
As Hyundai India’s first production electric SUV, the Creta EV marks a historic milestone and hints at the slowly rising EV market of India.

Hyundai Creta EV Overview
Design
The Hyundai Creta EV draws significant inspiration from its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, but Hyundai’s designers have ensured it aligns with the futuristic design trends of electric vehicles (EVs).
At the front, the standout features include vertically stacked Dual-Barrel LED headlights paired with connected LED DRLs, creating a striking visual. However it misses out on the fog lamps.
The front grille sports a pixelated graphic, complemented by a similarly styled lower bumper. Active Air Flaps enhance the styling, contribute to cooling the battery and motor, and improve the car’s aerodynamics.
From the side, the Creta EV exudes a dynamic and bold presence. It sits confidently on sleek 17-inch “Aero” Alloy wheels, embodying the extravagant design ethos of modern EVs.
At the rear, the tail lights resemble those of the standard Creta, but the EV distinguishes itself with a black accent beneath the tailgate, a redesigned bumper featuring pixel-style detailing, and a faux silver skid plate for added flair.
Inside, the cabin retains the familiar dual-tone interior finish and layout of the ICE Creta.
The most noticeable change is the addition of a drive selector knob, replacing the traditional gear stick. The three-spoke steering wheel includes physical controls and is positioned in front of a 10.25-inch Digital Instrument Cluster. Also, the dashboard features a matching 10.25-inch Infotainment Screen.
Hyundai plans to offer the Creta EV in ten color options in India, though it remains to be seen how many of these will make their way to Nepal.
Performance
The Creta EV is expected to feature a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that will deliver a maximum power output of 135 PS. However, the exact motor specifications have not yet been disclosed.
The EV will come with two battery options. The first is a 42 kWh pack, providing a certified driving range of 390 km under ARAI testing. The second option is a larger 51.4 kWh battery pack, offering an ARAI-certified range of 473 km.
Charging the battery from 0 to 100% using an 11 kW AC charger takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on the battery size.
However, with a DC Fast Charger it can charge from 10% to 80% in 58 minutes.
Additional Details
McPherson Strut with Coil Spring and Coupled Torsion Beam Axle handle the suspension duties.
The dimensions are 4330 mm in length, 1790mm in width, and 1635mm in height. And, the wheelbase sits at 2610mm.
The details for the ground clearance, kerb weight, and boot space are yet to come.

The Hyundai Creta EV is set to compete directly with the BYD Atto 3, both of which have become leaders in Nepal’s midsize SUV segment.
Until now, the Creta and the Atto 3 were in different categories—Creta being an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle and the Atto 3 an electric SUV. However, with the launch of the Creta EV, the competition will now be on equal footing.
Detailed comparisons remain challenging due to limited information about the Creta EV, leaving much to speculation. That said, BYD has already gained a strong foothold in the segment, thanks to its sleek design, impressive performance, and feature-rich offerings.
Hyundai may be entering the EV market later than BYD, but its brand value in Nepal carries significant weight. The Creta EV has the potential to redefine competition in this segment, leveraging Hyundai’s reputation for reliability and innovation.
While BYD enjoys an early advantage, Hyundai’s entry into the electric SUV market signals a strong challenge, making this competition one to watch closely.
