Changan Lumin, Budget-Friendly EV Launching Soon in Nepal

Changan Lumin is going to launch in Nepal soon.

MAW Vriddhi AutoCorp, the authorized distributor of Changan vehicles in Nepal, is preparing to introduce the Lumin. It is a compact electric car designed for urban mobility.

The launch of the Deepal S07 helped Changan gain significant traction in Nepal’s electric vehicle market. The imminent debut of the Deepal L07 is certain to strengthen Changan’s foothold further.

With the introduction of the Lumin, Changan Nepal is expanding its offerings to cater to a broader range of consumer preferences.

Unlike its predecessors, which were built on the EPA1 platform, the Lumin is constructed on the EPA0 platform.

Both the EPA0 and EPA1 platforms are designed to support electric vehicles. However, the EPA0 platform is specifically developed to produce compact and subcompact vehicles, addressing users’ essential transportation needs, as seen from Lumin.

Changan Lumin Overview

Design

The Changan Lumin showcases a modern design.

The decently sized circular headlamps give the car a friendly look, while the minimalistic front grille prominently features the brand’s logo at the center.

The sleek lines and rounded edges create a smooth appearance, enhancing its contemporary style.

From the side, the Lumin exhibits a Boxy yet Stylish Silhouette. It features two doors with Flush Handles and Large Windows that provide good visibility for passengers.

The wheels are positioned close to the corners, enhancing the vehicle’s stability and maneuverability.

Additionally, the car comes with 14-inch Steel Wheels with wheel covers, further adding to its practical design.

The rear of the Lumin continues the theme of simplicity and functionality.

The circular taillights match the design of the headlamps, and the relatively large back window improves rear visibility.

The brand’s logo is centrally placed on the rear hatch, and the minimalistic bumper with a smooth finish complements the car’s overall aesthetic.

It is available in 5 different colors: Yellow, Pink, Green, White, and Gray.

Performance

The Changan Lumin is powered by a 35kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). It generates a max power of 48 PS and a max torque of 83 Nm.

It is supported by a 28.08 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery that offers a range up to 301 Km. Moreover, the charging time from 0 to 100% is around 9 hours with a 3.3kW AC Charger.

With a DC Charger, it can charge from 30% to 80% in 35 minutes. 

Furthermore, it can reach a top speed of 101 Km/h.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut and Trailing Arm Independent suspension systems handle the suspension duties.

The dimensions are 3270 mm in length, 1700 mm in width, and 1590 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 1980 mm.

Changan Lumin has a ground clearance of 150mm. And, the kerb weight is 925 Kg.

And, the boot space is 104 liters.

Changan Lumin Price in Nepal and Availability

Changan Lumin price in Nepal is Rs. 21.99 Lakhs.

Changan has already disclosed the price of the Lumin, but the official launch is still pending.

However, the official launch of Changan Lumin is likely to be at the NADA Auto Show 2024. 

Furthermore, it will be initially offered in just one variant.

When discussing competition, the Changan Lumin will directly compete with the MG Comet EV in this segment.

The MG Comet features a 31.26 kW motor, which is smaller than the Lumin’s 35 kW motor. However, the Comet boasts higher torque, producing 110 Nm compared to the Lumin’s 83 Nm.

This difference arises largely due to the Comet’s rear-wheel-drive system, and it also benefits from being around 100 kg lighter than the Lumin.

While both the Lumin and Comet fall within a similar price range, the Lumin is slightly more expensive. Additionally, the Comet offers a ground clearance of 165 mm, which is 15 mm higher than the Lumin’s 150 mm.

That being said, Lumin utilizes a Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery known for its extended lifespan, improved thermal stability, and reduced fire risk. This battery choice, however, contributes to the Lumin’s higher overall weight.

Furthermore, beside these differences, the Lumin stands out due to its wider stance and better overall stability.
