Xiaomi is a lifestyle brand that has been selling phones and other accessories in Nepal. They recently launched the Redmi Note 12 in Nepal with a stellar price-to-performance ratio. Now, they have launched the Redmi 12.

Redmi 12 Overview

Design

The Redmi 12, with its glass back and a plastic frame, at only 8.17mm thickness, is one slick-looking phone. The right side houses the volume rockers and power button, which doubles as a fingerprint reader. The sim tray is placed on the left side of the phone.

It has one downward-firing speaker for audio playback. We’re happy that the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster at the top. At the front, the hole punch camera definitely makes it feel like a more modern premium phone. Oh yeah, the phone is also IP53-rated. That’s a lot of things packed into a budget phone.

Display

The large 6.79-inch IPS LCD has a resolution of 1080 x 2460 and can reach a peak of 550 nits brightness. The display has a 1500:1 contrast ratio with a 70% NTSC color gamut.

The bezels look relatively small, and the 90Hz refresh rate display has AdaptiveSync which allows it to clock down its speed to 36Hz.

Hardware

The Redmi 12 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G88 (12nm) processor. It features a total of eight cores consisting of 2x Cortex A-75 @ 2GHz and 6x Cortex A-55 @ 1.8GHz. The phone comes equipped with Mali-G52 for graphics.

There are multiple storage options available with the phone, but the two available in Nepal are the 6/128GB and the 8/256GB models.

Even more, the phone has support for up to 1TB of expandable storage. The phone supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3.

Camera

The Redmi 12 features a triple camera setup with a 50MP f1.8 primary camera, 8MP f2.2 ultra-wide with a 120° FOV, and a 2MP f2.4 macro.

The phone only has support for 1080p@30fps on the video side of things. At least, 1080p@60fps should’ve been included. The front has an 8MP f2.1 selfie camera that also shoots up to 1080p@30fps.

Battery and OS

The phone comes with a 5000mAh battery and supports 18W fast charging. Xiaomi Nepal provides a 22.5W charger in the box.

It runs Android 13 out of the box with MIUI 14 on top.
