The Y series from vivo has always prioritized offering budget-friendly phones that cater to everyday casual users. And that’s exactly what the newest addition to the lineup, the vivo Y31d, aims to deliver.

The Y31d succeeds the vivo Y21d. Now the question is: does it fix the mistakes of the Y21d, or does it repeat the same history as its predecessor? Let’s find out.
What is the Price of vivo Y31d in Nepal?
The vivo Y31d price in Nepal could start at Rs. 23,999 for the 6/128GB variant and go up to Rs. 25,999 for the 6/256GB variant. The phone has only been launched in select markets like Vietnam and Kenya. And now, the phone is set to make its official debut in Nepal very soon.
If you’re unaware of the Y21d’s shortcomings, here’s a quick recap. It removed the 3.5mm headphone jack, a move that didn’t sit well with budget consumers. On top of that, the phone was priced too high for the value it offered, which made it hard to justify in the budget segment.
Let’s just hope the Y31d doesn’t repeat the same mistakes as its predecessor.

vivo Y31d Overview
vivo seems to be changing its design strategy with the Y series. If you look at previous Y series phones like the Y400, Y21d, Y04, and Y19s Pro, they usually had the Aura light or flash sitting right below the two vertically aligned cameras. But with the Vivo Y31d, the dual flash now sits beside the two cameras.

As a result, the module looks much more compact and, personally, a lot more attractive than the previous iteration, at least to me.
Besides that, vivo hasn’t changed the phone much. The dimensions remain almost the same, except this time the phone is 10g heavier, now weighing 219g.
The added weight is likely due to the massive 7,200mAh battery, which is expected to be the biggest selling point of the phone. It’s not the highest capacity in the market, but if the expected pricing turns out to be true, it could very well be the only phone in its segment offering this much battery. To charge this chunky unit, you get 44W fast charging, which, according to vivo, can take it from 0% to 50% in 43 minutes.
Build-wise, the Y31d retains the same IP68/69/69+ rating along with a 5-star SGS certification for drop resistance and military-grade shock resistance as last year.
The display has received a slight upgrade. The screen is now slightly bigger at 6.75 inches, up from 6.68 inches, and brighter, peaking at 1250 nits compared to 1000 nits in HBM mode. It’s also smoother thanks to the 120Hz refresh rate.
However, the panel is still an LCD, which feels like a missed opportunity considering alternatives at similar pricing offer OLED or even AMOLED panels at 120Hz.
Not all is bad, though. vivo has made some improvements in the performance department by giving the Y31d a Snapdragon 6s Gen 2 chipset. If you haven’t heard of this chip, it’s fairly new; in fact, it launched in December 2025.

If you dig a little deeper, it’s basically the Snapdragon 685 with a 2.9GHz clock speed. And just like how brands such as Xiaomi, Honor, and realme kept recycling the 685 in every other mid-range phone, this feels like the same chip making a comeback tour with a slightly higher clock speed.
Performance-wise, it’s not the fastest chip out there, nor can it run intensive games at a stable 60FPS. But it is still a major improvement compared to what was offered in the Y21d. According to vivo, the new chip delivers an 18% performance boost on AnTuTu.
For memory, you get 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage, another improvement over the previous eMMC 5.1 storage. Sadly, that’s all you get; there’s no expandable storage this time, which is a huge bummer considering last year’s model supported up to 2TB external storage.

The camera department is also different from last year, and this year’s setup is arguably worse. The 50MP main camera remains the same in megapixels, but the aperture has narrowed to ƒ/2.0 from ƒ/1.8. In layman’s terms, that means slightly worse low-light performance and less natural background blur. This was likely done to accommodate the addition of a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, you get an 8MP selfie shooter.
Lastly, on the software front, the Y31d boots Android 16 with OriginOS 6 on top. It will likely offer a clean experience similar to most OriginOS devices like the vivo V60 or the X300 Pro, though it may still come with some bloatware and ads. I would happily be proven wrong.

I think the vivo Y31d finally gets that much-needed upgrade in the display department. Performance is also a decent step up. The massive battery is clearly the standout feature, and honestly, that’s what most users prioritize at this price. Add in smaller but useful features like bypass charging, reverse charging, and a solid protection rating, and you’ve got some nice extras on top.
However, vivo seems to be forgetting that the Y series is a budget-focused lineup. And, at this level, features like a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot still matter. With both missing, this could be a deal breaker, especially for buyers considering the lower storage variant and planning to expand it later.
For users who don’t care about expandable storage or a headphone jack, the Y31d could still be a solid choice, provided vivo launches it at an aggressive price. If not, alternatives like the HMD Crest or the Moto G35 could be a better choice.
