Triumph took an unusual approach by launching the Speed 400 and Speed T4 in a span of just an year which is something rarely seen in the motorcycle industry.
This move was even more surprising given the Speed 400’s immediate success in India. Instead of capitalizing on its momentum and allowing sales to stabilize, Triumph India swiftly introduced the Speed T4.
Strategically positioned as a more affordable, city-friendly alternative with a relaxed engine character, the Speed T4 became the brand’s new entry-level offering.
Moreover, the distributor of Triumphs for Nepal are currently in the process of negotiation with the Indian party and have assured that the Speed T4 will soon be available for Nepal too.

Triumph Speed T4 Overview
Design
The Triumph Speed T4 closely resembles its Speed 400 sibling but appears slimmer. Several cost-cutting measures are evident, giving it a more minimalist look.
The T4 sports a subtle, understated design, contrasting sharply with the bold and aggressive stance of the Speed 400. Built for city commuting, it prioritizes comfort and practicality, and its design reflects that intent perfectly.
While the round headlamp remains unchanged, the most noticeable difference lies in the front suspension. The Speed T4 features conventional Telescopic Forks, whereas the Speed 400 comes equipped with more premium USD forks.
Another key distinction is in the rearview mirrors. The Speed T4 uses standard stock-type mirrors, replacing the bar-end mirrors found on the Speed 400.
On the side profile, new stickering sets the T4 apart, yet it retains familiar elements such as the Single-seat setup, Chrome-finished Fins, and a clean, compact engine section. However, the seats comes with more foam than that on the Speed 400.
The exhaust also sees a change, now finished in black matte, contrasting with the brushed metal exhaust on the Speed 400.
At the rear, the slimmer tire gives the T4 a more compact appearance. However, it retains the same sleek LED taillight and side indicators.

The instrumentation remains unchanged, featuring a Semi-Digital Cluster with an analog speedometer and a digital screen displaying Gear Position, RPM, Odometer, and Fuel Gauge. Various check lights are positioned between these readings.
Despite these similarities, the T4 still lacks Bluetooth connectivity.
The Triumph Speed T4 is available in three different color options: Metallic White, Phantom Black, and Cocktail Red Wine.
Performance
The Speed T4 is powered by a 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine and this is the same unit found in the Speed 400, with no changes to bore or stroke dimensions.
However, its performance figures differ, producing 31 PS of max power at 7000 rpm and 36 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm which are paired with a 6-speed gearbox with Torque-Assist Clutch and a 13-liter fuel tank. Triumph says that the Speed T4 is around 10% more fuel-efficient than the Speed 400.
Moreover, the rear sprocket of the T4 is smaller than that of the Speed 400, allowing it to have taller gear ratios, which means better fuel efficiency and a smoother ride at higher speeds but slightly reduced acceleration.
Also, compared to the Speed 400, the T4 experiences a 9 PS drop in power and a 1.5 Nm reduction in torque.
While this decline may seem significant on paper, it’s important to note that the T4 delivers power at a lower rev range. In contrast, the Speed 400 produces 40 PS at 8000 rpm and 37.5 Nm at 6500 rpm.
Triumph has designed the T4’s torque delivery to be highly accessible, with 85% of its peak torque available from just 2,500 rpm. This results in a rev-friendly and refined riding experience, making it well-suited for urban commutes.
However, the lack of Ride-by-Wire throttle may introduce some jerkiness during throttle inputs.
Despite the drop in power, the Speed T4 still delivers respectable performance, achieving a top speed of 135 km/h and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.08 seconds.
Additional Details
Telescopic Forks and Pre-Load Adjustable Monoshock handle the suspension duties.
The T4 boasts a 1406 mm wheelbase, making it noticeably longer than the Speed 400’s 1377 mm.
It also offers a ground clearance of 170 mm. However, at 176 kg, the T4 is 4 kg heavier than the Speed 400 in kerb weight.

Triumph Speed T4 Price in Nepal and Availability
Triumph Speed T4 price in Nepal is not known as of yet. However, it is confirmed that it will soon come to Nepal.

In terms of competition, the Speed T4 will need to compete with its own sibling, the Speed 400. While Nepal is a price-sensitive market, Nepali buyers also view vehicles as a statement of status.
The Speed T4 offers a more affordable alternative to the Speed 400, but it comes with several stripped-down features, such as the USD forks, Traction Control, Larger Tires, a Reactive Engine, and a Ride-by-Wire Throttle.
These were the key elements that elevated the Speed 400 into the premium segment of bikes in Nepal. However, the Speed T4 isn’t designed to be a speed demon or a sophisticated machine.
Triumph created the T4 with a city-focused mindset, catering to people who need to navigate through urban traffic and seek a comfortable and enjoyable ride.
The T4’s torque-heavy engine does just that. While Triumph’s original plan may have been to target buyers who find the Speed 400 too much, aiming to connect with the masses through the Speed T4, it’s clear that they’ve carefully crafted a bike that brings us back to the roots of motorbiking.
In Nepal, official distributors will need to price the Speed T4 strategically to make it an appealing option, while avoiding the risk of branding it as a “cheap Speed 400.” Besides, owning a Triumph badge will always carry a sense of prestige in any garage.
