Samsung Galaxy S20 at a Glance

Samsung left room for excuses on any of the three divisions of the S20 series. Even as the very base model, the S20 presents the finest glass-metal sandwich with Gorilla Glass 6 presented on the glass front. As expected, there’s an IP68 dust/water certification.

Underneath the glass body, Samsung managed to fit a 6.2” QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display. Backed by a 120Hz refresh rate, this display is undoubtedly the best display on any phone right now. However, the 120Hz refresh rate can only be triggered when the screen is in FHD+ resolution. Why? Well, typically because the battery just won’t be able to take much of the higher refresh rate on a QHD+ setup.

Inside, the phone packs in an Exynos 990 chipset, which may seem a little strange because well, where is the Snapdragon 865? Apparently, we’re stuck with the Exynos processor because the Snapdragon chipset will only be made in US and Canada. They will be supporting 5G connectivity though.

The S20 family will be encasing a new generation of 12GB DDR5 RAM which is definitely bound to make all the variant a lot faster. You do have the flexibility to choose in between 8/12GB for RAM and 128/512GB for internals. All 3 phones will be hosting One UI 2.0 on top of Android 10 which does host some quirky features.

In the camera department, the S20 houses a triple camera array with a 12MP primary camera at the center of attention. A 64MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom capabilities and 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera completes the whole setup. Reverting towards the front, you get a 10MP lens.

And, lastly giving power to the entire device is an average-sized 4000mAh battery with a 45W fast charging and 9W reverse wireless charging support. The in-box charger is just of 25W though, you may choose to upgrade it if you wish. But Samsung had to compromise on a particular aspect to make all of this possible. Apparently, the 3.5mm headphone jack was in the way and so they decided to get rid of it completely.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus in a Nutshell

Since, they are a part of the same family, the S20+ shares a lot of heredity characteristics with S20. The design for instance, is one of those aspects that isn’t different at all. Other than a slightly larger 6.7” size, the display is completely identical too.

As for the processor, there is a Snapdragon 865 variant available alongside the Exynos 990. Here as well, you get the 8/12GB DDR5 RAM variant alongside 5G connectivity.

And Moving on to S20 Ultra,

As you may have guessed, the S20 Ultra is the superior of the bunch. And in a way, its Samsung’s perfect response to fill the void left by Huawei Mate 30. First off, the S20 Ultra features a larger 6.9” Screen with the same specifications.

Besides that, the internal attributes remain exactly same but you get a bumped up 16GB RAM with 512GB internal setup option. The rear cameras of the S20 ultra are on a whole new level though. The whole rectangular bump is a little larger and on board is a massive 108MP primary sensor coupled with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 48MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom (which Samsung is marketing as 100x Space Zoom), and finally a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor!

And finally, rounding off the specification to battery, there’s an even larger 5000mAh capacity available on the S20 Ultra with the same functionalities.

Samsung S20 Series Impressions

The S20 Series of the smartphone is the epitome of the upcoming future of smartphones. The level of artwork and creativity engineered onto the smartphones is on a whole new level. The removal of 3.5mm headphone jack is surely disheartening but well I guess we can accept that now. At least, they’ve managed to fill the voids left by Huawei which makes it the ideal phone for me.

Also, the launch price of Samsung S20 and S20 Plus is comparable to that of India or any other international market. And, there are plenty of good offers on pre-booking. Thus it’s best if you pre-book the Galaxy S20 or S20 Plus right now.
