Samsung Galaxy A55 5G Overview

Design

The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G shares the same design theme as its predecessor and siblings. The smartphone comes with three separate camera lenses housed on a flat back. The front of the device sports a punch-hole display for the camera and the bezel has been reduced to give the display a uniform border all around.

The side rails of the A55 5G are now made of aluminum instead of plastic, making it more durable. They are also flatter, which gives the phone a boxy look. The power and the volume buttons are placed on the right side of the device and the Type-C port sits on the bottom of the aluminum frame.

For biometrics, the phone has an under-display fingerprint sensor and the entire device is certified IP67 dust and water-resistant. The device comes in four colors: Iceblue, Lilac, Navy and Lemon.

Display

The A55 5G features a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It can reach a peak brightness of 1000nits under direct sunlight in HBM mode.

The Galaxy A55 5G’s display is certified HDR10+, which provides for a much better content consumption experience. The display is protected by a Gorilla Glass Victus+.

Hardware

Samsung’s in-house silicon, the Exynos 1480, handles the processing for the Samsung A55 5G. The CPU consists of 4x 2.75 GHz Cortex-A78 cores and 4x 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. An Xclipse 530 GPU, based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture, handles the graphics.

For memory, the Galaxy A55 5G comes with either 8 or 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage with support for microSD card.

Cameras

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G has a triple camera setup on the rear with a 50MP main, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro sensor. The main camera also has OIS and is capable of recording videos up to 4K at 30fps.

The selfie camera is a single 32MP shooter that can also record videos up to 4K at 30fps.

Battery and OS

The phone gets the same 5000mAh battery and 25W fast charging, same as the Samsung A54. The device does not come with a charger in the box, but in Nepal, Samsung provides a free genuine 25W charger with every purchase of the phone.

The device comes with Android 14 out of the box with One UI 6.1 skin applied on top. Samsung also promises the A55 will receive security updates for 5 years along with Android updates for 4 years.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 also comes with Samsung Knox Vault, which is a hardware-based tamper-resistant environment that holds sensitive data. It physically isolates PINs, passwords, biometrics, and security-critical keys away from the rest and stores them in the secure memory.

Samsung Galaxy A55 5G is an iterative update to the already solid Galaxy A54. It comes with the same set of cameras, the same display and the same general design albeit with some new color options. Performance-wise, the phone receives a new Exynos 1480 processor and an Xclipse 530 GPU.
