Xiaomi today launched the Redmi A2 in Nepal. It is an entry-level smartphone and is a successor to last year’s Redmi A1.

The Redmi A2 is the standard variant of the Redmi A2 series. There is also the Plus model, Redmi A2+.

In this article, we will focus on the specifications and features of the Redmi A2. However, the only difference between this and A2 Plus is that the Plus variant includes a fingerprint sensor.

Xiaomi Redmi A2 Overview

Design

All four smartphones in the Redmi A1 and A2 series boast the same design. Available in light green, light blue, and black color options, the Redmi A2 features a plastic build with a textured finish on the back.

The dual rear camera module is situated on an almost flat island that also incorporates a flash. However, unlike the Plus model, the back of the phone does not include a fingerprint scanner.

On the right side of the device, you’ll find the power and volume buttons. The bottom of the phone houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, a Micro-USB port, and a microphone.

The speaker grille is located on the top side, while the SIM card tray is positioned on the left. Furthermore, the SIM tray also supports a microSD card for expanding the storage capacity.

The phone sports a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display with a waterdrop notch design to house the selfie camera.

The display has an aspect ratio of 20:9 and a resolution of HD+ (720 x 1600 pixels).

Hardware

Both the Redmi A2 and A2 Plus are powered by a MediaTek Helio G36 processor. The Helio G36 is an octa-core processor with four Cortex-A53 running at up to 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 at up to 1.7GHz.

The processor is paired with either 2GB or 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. However, only a 2GB RAM model is available in Nepal.

Camera

The Redmi A2 has a dual camera setup comprising an 8MP main camera and an auxiliary lens.

The front has a 5MP camera for selfies. Both the front and back cameras are capable of shooting up to 1080p video at 30fps.

Battery and OS

Fueling the smartphone is a 5000mAh battery. A 10W charger is included in the box.

In terms of software, the phone runs on Android 12 (Go edition).

The Redmi A2, an entry-level smartphone from Xiaomi, serves as the successor to the previous year’s Redmi A1. Featuring the Helio G36 chipset, it offers better performance compared to its predecessor. However, aside from the upgraded processor, the phone remains identical to last year’s model.
