Oliz Store, the authorized reseller of Apple products in Nepal, has listed 4 new variants of MacBook Pros for pre-order. There are two 13-inch models of 256GB and 512GB storage capacity and two 15-inch models of 256GB and 512GB storage capacity. They cost Rs. 2,35,000, Rs. 2,55,000, Rs. 3,10,000, and Rs. 3,75,000 respectively.
Apple quietly announced the new MacBook Pros for 2018 on July taking many people by surprise. The most noticeable upgrade compared to last year’s lineup is the new 8th gen processors. The 8th gen i5 models have 4 cores now which is double the amount on its predecessors.
What this means for consumers is that the new CPUs perform nearly 40% faster in multicore performance. There is a slight boost in single core performance too. This means that this generation of 13-inch MacBook Pros are the first 13.3-inch laptop from Apple to have a quad-core CPU in them and the performance gain from a quad-core CPU is huge. There is a change in the i7 models too; they now have six cores inside them instead of just four.

There are other subtle changes too. The keyboard is reportedly a little quieter. But the travel hasn’t increased a bit. You get the same clacky feeling and it is up to you to hate it or love it. There were numerous complaints from users about dust getting under the keys rendering their keyboard unusable in 2017 or 2016 MacBooks. There is now a transparent silicone covering under the keys which most people speculate is Apple’s solution to that problem. How these keyboards will fare in time remains to be seen.
The screen resolution and aspect ratio is the same as the last gen models and we didn’t think it needed change (the retina displays are gorgeous). But now they have added a new technology called the true tone display. The screens now change color temperature according to the ambient light around you to give you an optimal viewing experience. We saw this in iPhone 8, 8Plus and X. You can turn this feature off if you don’t like it though.
The speakers are richer and cleaner, maybe even louder. The 13-inch models still don’t come with a dedicated graphics card. You’ll have to look at the 15 inch variant for that. Also, the without-touch bar model of 2018 hasn’t been upgraded. So, if you didn’t like the touch bar, you don’t have the option to upgrade. But this also means that now all the models have touch ID built in. The ports selection is the same and the headphone jack remains for now. The build is still exquisite like any Apple product and though the design is some years old now, it still looks premium.
