SPG Automobiles, the authorized distributor of Jaecoo vehicles in Nepal, has introduced an updated version of its popular Jaecoo J6. It is called the J6T. While the changes are mostly cosmetic and may look subtle at first, they come together in a way that makes the J6T feel more capable and better sorted than before.

To add some context, Jaecoo operates as a sub-brand of Chery and entered the global market in 2023 with a focus on exports. The brand arrived in Nepal in 2024 with the J6 and expanded its lineup in 2025 with the addition of the J5 SUV. Now, the J6T becomes the third model in the lineup. However, in practical terms, it replaces the existing J6 rather than sitting alongside it.

Moving on, the interest in off-road-focused EVs is gradually growing in Nepal, and the J6 didn’t seem enough to capture that interest fully, despite being the first to hit that niche. Realizing this, the brand has moved quickly by introducing the J6T in Nepal even though the model is currently limited to markets like Thailand.

The J6T brings stronger positioning, especially around its off-road SUV appeal, which gives the brand more to communicate and build on. As part of its launch offer, Jaecoo is currently offering the J6T at a special price of Rs. 66.99 Lakhs.

Let’s know the Jaecoo J6T more closely, starting with the specifications for 2026 in Nepal.

Jaecoo J6T Overview

Exterior

The Jaecoo J6T carries forward the bold one-box wide-body design while building on the J6’s boxy and cubiform silhouette. It retains the retro-inspired proportions rooted in the J6, but pushes the idea further with a more aggressive and confident execution. This time, the design feels more resolved and purposeful rather than playful.

At the front, Jaecoo replaces the vertical textured panel of the previous J6 with a solid gloss black element, flanked by the LED headlamps in a familiar layout. The design now feels cleaner and more restrained. It drops the central “i” logo and shifts toward a more neutral and intimidating face. The bumper gets a dual guard setup, while the air intakes look more compact and better integrated.

The skid plate also blends more neatly with the body-colored finish. Altogether, the front fascia communicates a more mature and serious identity for the J6T.

From the side, the extended fenders and flared arches give it a wider and more muscular stance. Compared to the simpler and flatter sides of the J6, the J6T adds more visual depth with subtle air vents on the front fenders. These vents, besides serving a cosmetic purpose, also help manage airflow around the body, which becomes important for a boxy shape like this.

The overall length increases by 27 mm, while the ground clearance rises by 25 mm to 225 mm. The SUV sits on 19-inch alloy wheels with a fully blacked-out design, which adds to its tougher appearance. Other elements, such as the squared window line, roof rails, and upright pillars, remain unchanged, preserving the familiar silhouette.

At the rear, Jaecoo updates the bumper with a dual guard design similar to the front. The external toolkit storage compartment remains, offering a practical 23.5-liter space. Unlike the J6, which used the “i” button to access it, the J6T switches to a simpler side-mounted button, making it easier to use.

Even so, Jaecoo does not completely abandon its signature identity. The “i” motif still appears in the side lighting elements at the rear, subtly carrying forward the brand’s visual signature while the rest of the design moves in a more serious direction.

There are Grey, Green, Silver, Black, and White colors to choose from for the exterior of the J6T.

Interior

The boxy design theme carries over into the interior, and for the most part, it mirrors what you see in the J6. Square-shaped fetish shows up everywhere, from the air vents to the glove box partition-styled opening, to the door handles, and even the opening knobs. The standard theme uses an all-black layout, although a dual-tone white and black option is also available for a slightly brighter feel.

As for changes, the major change, the steering wheel now replaces the earlier “i” logo with a cleaner “Jaecoo” script, which gives it a more mature look. Beyond this, the J6T does not introduce any major visual differences in the interior when compared to the standard J6.

The seats use leatherette upholstery and offer ventilation for the front row. The driver’s seat also includes a memory function along with a welcome mode. Both front seats get electric adjustment, although the exact range of adjustability is yet to be confirmed, as the final specifications are still being documented, as per company officials.

The dashboard continues to revolve around a large 15.6-inch infotainment screen. Most functions run through this display, with very few physical controls available apart from scroll buttons on the steering wheel. While this setup looks clean and even convenient, it can feel inconvenient in daily use.

We noticed this during our time with the J6, where accessing basic functions through the screen required more effort than expected.

Apart from this, the rest of the features remain unchanged. The J6T still offers a 9.2-inch instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Infinity sound system, wireless charging, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control, along with the usual set of convenience features.

There’s nothing much to complain about the interior of the J6T. Although it does not bring any major change on top of the previous J6, the interior was already a likeable one. The generous use of soft touch materials, comfortable headroom and leg room for both rows, driving ergonomics were nicely done in the J6, and it translates as it is on the J6T.

Performance

The powertrain also remains unchanged for the J6T. It is powered by a 135 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), which generates a max power of 183.5 PS and a max torque of 220 Nm. The decision of the distributors not to cap the motor capacity to 99 kW has been beneficial in establishing that “it is a powerful SUV,” according to customer remarks from its customers.

And this is also supported by the Rear Wheel Drive setup of the J6T, which helps in the early acceleration and pulling. As a result, the J6T can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.5 seconds. But the top speed of 150 kmph is not that impressive, probably capped.

J6T is still supported by a 69.8 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery and has a 431 km NEDC range. Here’s something to think about: The J6 has a 400 km range, but the J6T, with a similar powertrain, has a 431 km range. Why? Well, the answer lies in the drive test cycle that they were tested on. The J6’s 400 km is obtained on a WLTP scale, which is more stringent and realistic than the NEDC test. So, I think the range is the same; it is just a clever articulation of the information.

Based on our test done on the J6 (done from Kathmandu-Nagarkot route), the range can be realistically assumed to be in the range of 350-370 km. Moreover, the charging time from 0 to 100% is around 10 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger, and under an 85 kW fast charging, the J6T can charge from 30% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

The Jaecoo J6T uses an all-aluminum structure, similar to models from Land Rover. This construction reduces weight while maintaining a strong strength-to-weight ratio, which helps improve efficiency and overall range.

A lighter body also enhances performance and handling, making the J6 feel more responsive and agile, especially in off-road conditions. At the same time, aluminum does not compromise safety. In fact, premium brands like Mercedes-Benz and Tesla use similar materials to balance lightweight construction with structural strength.

Additional Details

Front McPherson Strut and Rear Multi-Link handle the suspension duties.

The Jaecoo J6T measures 4433 mm in length, 1916 mm in width, and 1741 mm in height, which makes it 27 mm longer, 6 mm wider, and 26 mm taller than the J6. The ground clearance is 225 mm.

Here’s an interesting trade-off: the J6T’s thicker bumpers actually hurt its off-road angles slightly. The regular J6 gets 28° approach and 32° departure angles, while the J6T drops to 27° and 31°. Both have the same 2715 mm wheelbase, though.

It includes a 450-liter boot space and, as mentioned earlier, the rear-mounted storage box allows 22.5 liters of storage space.

Rivals

Talking about competition, the Jaecoo J6T is a uniquely positioned EV. It is an SUV by proportions, but also boasts off-road capabilities at that too, at a relatively accessible price. There’s the Riddara RD6 that you might consider, if pickups are your thing.

While the rear wheel drive option of the RD6 is actually cheaper than the J6T, adding some more to the cost of J6T can actually land you the All-Wheel Drive option of RD6 (10 Lakhs to be exact), which is very much powerful, bigger, and capable than the J6T, not to mention the practicality of pickup that it brings to the table.

But if you are looking for an SUV specifically, want to standout in the road, and have some off-roading in mind, then the J6T can be a pretty good choice for that.
