Which two phones have the best camera in 2019? P30 Pro and S10Plus. A very easy answer. Right? And if you ask which ones better between these two? Well, that’s for another article in this one we’ll see which one takes better low light photos or let’s say night photos. But this is also obvious.
P30 Pro with its night mode takes better low light pictures. So, how far is the S10 plus behind the P30 Pro with night mode and without night mode? Also, keep in mind that these samples were taken before the night mode update on the S10 Plus. So let us jump straight into the first sample.

Normal Night Shots
First Sample
This first sample is one of the temples at Basantapur and this was shot around 7 PM. Comparing S10 Plus’s picture and the P30 Pro’s without night mode. Head on, P30 pro has a brighter and sharper image. It also has less noise but we could say the highlights are slightly exaggerated on the P30 Pro.
Now comparing the picture with night mode turned on. We can see that the P30 pro has stepped up and looks better than the S10 Plus. The long exposure on the P30 Pro is impressive whereas the scene optimizer on the S10 Plus did not recognize this scene as Night mode, so it was not using its AI night mode in this one. Well so much for AI, never been a fan of it on smartphones.
2nd Sample Set
Moving to take the 2nd Image below. At first, if we just take a look at it, the S10 Plus has a brighter image. You can also notice there are much details on darker part on s10 plus when we take a look around the trees and leaves. But on overall, the p30 pro’s image looks better because it has less noise whereas the S10 Plus looks slightly blur, especially on the outskirts.
Now compared to the night mode on the P30 Pro it’s a whole different story. Sharper, brighter and overall a better picture. Well, the S10 Plus bites the dust, when we turn on the night mode on the P30 Pro.
3rd Sample Set
Now, let’s take a look into the 3rd set of samples. I was actually surprised by this one because the S10 Plus does a better job here. We were only using the normal mode on the P30 Pro. And compared to the S10 Plus, S10 Plus has a brighter image, especially the detail on the window looks better on the S10 Plus than the P30 Pro.
But if we compare the picture of P30 Pro with night mode turned on, P30 Pro certainly produces a better image than the S10 Plus. I guess this was one of those rare moments when S10 Plus had a tad better image than the P30 Pro’s normal image. However, it could not beat the night mode on the P30 Pro.
4th Sample Set
Now let’s move on to the 4th set of samples. It was completely dark when I shot these pictures. I could hardly see these buildings and make out the details. Both of the phones have done a good job. This is the only time the scene optimizer detected the scene as night and the night mode kicked in on the S10 Plus.
Comparing the S10 Plus image and P30 Pro’s normal image, the S10 Plus has a brighter image, however, it has more noise too. But, if we take a look at the night mode pictures of the P30 Pro, it has a better image. It is sharper, brighter and overall a better image but I like how the S10 Plus has controlled the light under the white building.
Wide Angle + Zoom Night Shots
1st Sample Set
Below is a set of wide shots of one of the restros, right outside my gym and both of these devices do a good job. The S10 Plus looks much wider and without the night mode on the P30 Pro, It looks pretty even. The S10 Plus’s image is slightly brighter but if we compare it with the night mode image of the P30 Pro then the P30 Pro’s image looks brighter and it’s sharper as well.
2x Zoom/ 5x Zoom
Now we have the sample of the same picture but we are using 2x zoom and on overall it looks pretty even but if we zoom, the S10 Plus has more noise than the p30 pro and if we take a look at the image with 5x zoom. Its more evident that the S10 Plus’s image has more noise than the P30 Pro.
2nd Sample Set
On to the next ultra wide-angle shot. This sample was shot quite late around 7:30 pm and on first look, there’s not much to choose between. But the biggest difference if we look carefully is the amount of detail. On the S10 Plus we can’t see the text big mart quite clearly but on the P30 Pro we can easily read out the text and if we take a closer look, the details on the board are better preserved by the P30 Pro than the S10 Plus.
In conclusion, it’s quite evident that the S10 Plus cannot beat the P30 Pro with its night mode. Well, I did not have to test to come to this conclusion. But I wanted to see how far behind the S10 Plus really is. And, with the night mode turned on the P30 Pro, it is quite far behind.
However, we will also compare the photos with the night mode update on the S10 Plus in our future article and that should give a more clear picture.
