HMD made a name for itself in Nepal with the launch of the HMD Crest and HMD Crest Max, winning over buyers with strong value for their respective price points. Fast forward a year, and HMD has launched its third phone in Nepal, the HMD Aura 2.

The HMD Aura 2 succeeds the HMD Aura, a budget smartphone designed primarily for basic tasks. This time, however, HMD is placing greater emphasis on repairability. The Aura 2 is designed so that key components, such as the display and battery, can be easily replaced by users, making it more convenient to maintain over the long term.
With smartphone prices steadily rising, could the HMD Aura 2 grab some attention with its self-repairability feature? Let’s find out.
What is the Price of HMD Aura 2 in Nepal?
The HMD Aura 2 debuted in early 2025 in Australia at AUD 169, which is approximately Rs. 17,389. Surprisingly, it is priced significantly lower in Nepal compared to its Australian counterpart.
The HMD Aura 2 price in Nepal is Rs. 14,999 for the 4/128GB variant, and it is now available for purchase via HMD authorized stores across the country.
With the pricing out of the way, let’s dive into what the HMD Aura 2 has to offer.
HMD Aura 2 Overview
The HMD Aura 2 follows the design language seen on other HMD smartphones like the HMD Fusion and HMD Crest. It features a plastic back with a rectangular camera module on the rear.
From the front, however, the phone looks somewhat dated due to its waterdrop notch design. On the bright side, the inclusion of an IP54 rating on a budget smartphone is quite impressive. The device is available in two color options: Midnight Black and Icy Blue.

The Aura 2 feautures an 6.52-inches HD IPS LCD panel, which is totally understandable for a budget smartphone. However, the display is rated at just 460 nits of peak brightness, which is low even by budget smartphone standards. To make matters worse, the display is capped at just 60Hz, which is hard to overlook when phones like the Ai+ Pulse offer 90Hz at an even lower price point.

The Unisoc SC9863A chipset powers the HMD Aura 2, a rather modest processor built on a 28nm process. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 128 of internal storage. The phone also includes a Memory Boost feature that can borrow up to 4GB of storage to virtually expand the RAM.
A basic camera setup includes a 13MP main camera on the rear and a 5MP selfie camera.
The HMD Aura 2 doesn’t stand out in the battery department either, with a 5000mAh battery and slow 10W charging. Furthermore, it runs on Android 14 (Go edition), which is an older version of Android. Thankfully, the Go edition is a lighter version of the OS and is better suited for entry-level hardware.

The HMD Aura 2 is a very basic smartphone with entry-level specifications. Nothing about it really feels “wow,” and almost every other specification feels outdated and underwhelming.
The main focus of the HMD Aura 2 appears to be repairability, but it raises an important question: Does it really make sense to repair a budget phone? Replacement parts like the display or battery could still be relatively expensive compared to the phone’s price. On top of that, the availability of official repair parts and tools for self-repair could be a big question mark in many regions, including Nepal.
