Foton has stepped into Nepal’s growing EV buzz. But this time with a diesel-powered pickup, called the Tunland G7.
MAW Vriddhi, the authorized distributor of Foton vehicles in Nepal, has launched a new pickup truck in the Nepali market called the Tunland G7. Offsetting from the electric culture that most of the brands are opting toward right now, Foton has taken this approach to keep the spirit of pickup trucks intact.
The Tunland G7 represents the latest evolution in the Tunland series, which first launched in 2011. Over the years, the series has gained popularity in markets such as Australasia, South Africa, Russia, and Nepal.
With the G7, Foton builds on the success of earlier models like the Tunland E, E+, and S. The new model features a more refined design and upgraded technology, aiming to compete confidently on a global scale. Currently, there are over 1500 Foton vehicles in Nepal with 500+ of them being pickups.
The Tunland G7 has undergone over a year of rigorous testing across various terrains in the country, and it has consistently come out on top in every condition.

Foton Tunland G7 Overview
Design
The Foton Tunland G7 embraces a design philosophy that balances utility with passenger comfort.
It presents a bold stance, starting with a blacked-out hexagonal grille that proudly showcases the “Foton” logo at the center. This grille is flanked by rectangular Halogen Headlamps.
Lower down, the bumper features a sub-grille layout, accompanied by Fog Lamps on either side. These are accented with chrome brackets while a small LED strips on top.
Along the sides, prominent wheel arches accommodate either a 16-inch (Elite), 17-inch (Luxury) or 18-inch (Flagship) Alloy Wheels. The G7 is available in Double-cab configurations. which means there is a second row of seats, making it a 5-Seater vehicle.
The fuel tank sits just behind the cab, positioned above the rear wheel arch. The extended wheelbase of 3110 mm gives the G7 a stretched and stable profile, especially with the large rear bed contributing to its overall length.
At the rear, the highlight is undoubtedly the cargo bed. Measuring 1520 mm in length, 1580 mm in width, and 440 mm in height, the bed offers a total volume of approximately 1042 liters. Above it, the tailgate features the same bold “Foton” logo, flanked by vertically stacked LED Taillights that mirror the styling up front.
Inside, the Tunland G7 offers a ‘aviation-inspired’ cockpit. Depending on the variant, the seats are upholstered in either fabric or leatherette. Front seats come with Heating and Ventilation functions, but this is reserved for the Luxury and Flagship variants.
On the Flagship variant, the driver also enjoys a 12-way Power-Adjustable seat, while the front passenger gets a 4-way Power Adjustment system while the Luxury variant only gets a 6-way Power Adjustment on the Driver’s seat while the front passenger has to do with a 4-way manual adjustment. Moreover, the base variant, i.e., Elite variant has to do with all Manually Adjustments.
The dashboard houses a 12.3-inch display for the Infotainment System and another 7-inch screen for the Digital Instrument Cluster, and this setup remains same for all variants.
Most of the interior features are packed into the Flagship variant, while the Luxury trim still offers a fair share of equipment. The Elite variant, however, misses out on quite a lot. For instance, the 6-Speaker Audio System and Sunroof are exclusive to the Flagship. Both the Flagship and Luxury variants come with Ventilated and Heated Seats, along with Automatic AC. Unfortunately, the Elite doesn’t get any of these comfort features.
On a fun note, there is a Cigarette Lighter and Mobile Astray in all of the variants.
Additionally, the Tunland G7 is available in Black, Red, and White color options.
Performance
The Foton Tunland G7 is powered by 2.0-liter Turbodiesel Common Rail engine that produces a max power of 162 PS at 3600 rpm and a max torque of 390 Nm between 2000-3000 rpm.
Moreover, it is mated to a 6-Speed Manual (Elite, Luxury, and One Trim of Flagship variant) or an 8-Speed Automatic Transmission (Two upper trims of Flagship variants) that come with a gear stick and paddle shifters respectively. And, it has a claimed mileage of around 13.3 kmpl with 80-liter fuel tank capacity.
All of the variants of the G7 feature the BorgWarner Electronic Part-Time 4WD. This is a type of four-wheel-drive system that the driver can engage when needed rather than being active all the time. There are four selectable modes:
- 2H (2-Wheel Drive, High Range): Ideal for everyday driving on normal roads and better fuel efficiency.
- AUTO: Automatically shifts power between the front and rear wheels for traction, on a need basis.
- 4H (Four-Wheel Drive, High Range): Suitable for slippery and surfaces like gravel, sand, or snow.
- 4L (Four-Wheel Drive, Low Range): Applicable for serious off-roading or steep climbs.
Beside this, the G7 also features ECO mode where the smoothness and NVH performance are quite relaxing while Sport Mode notches the vehicle toward a aggressive side suitable for off-roads and difficult terrain.
Moreover, the vehicle can hit a top speed of 160 km/h.

Rivals
Foton Tunland G7 competes against the Isuzu Hi-Lander.
The Tunland G7 immediately stands out with its larger overall dimensions and a longer wheelbase. This increase in size directly results in a more spacious cabin and a larger cargo area compared to the Hi-Lander. As a result, the Tunland G7 offers more room for both passengers and goods, making it a stronger contender in terms of practicality and comfort.
In addition to its size advantage, the G7 also comes equipped with a more comprehensive set of features designed to enhance the driving and travel experience.
It includes premium touches such as leatherette seats, heated and ventilated seats, and a sunroof. The in-cabin audio quality also sees an upgrade with a 6-speaker sound system, surpassing the 4-speaker setup found in the Hi-Lander.
The Hi-Lander has long been a reliable and affordable choice for pickup buyers. But now, the Tunland G7 steps in with a stronger value proposition, offering more features and better overall appeal. It hasn’t turned away potential buyers either, thanks to its attractive pricing, starting at just Rs. 52 Lakhs and going up to Rs. 75 Lakhs for the top-spec variant.
