Dongfeng Forthing Friday EV is going to debut in Nepal soon.

Laxmi Electric Mobility has been appointed as the official distributor of Forthing vehicles in Nepal. The company is set to debut the brand with the launch of the Forthing Friday EV in the Nepali market.

Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd., operates the Forthing brand, which is a subsidiary of the larger Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Dongfeng already has a presence in Nepal, having introduced the Nammi 01 in 2024, which gained significant attention as a value offering.

Although both the Nammi 01 and the Forthing Friday EV fall under the Dongfeng umbrella, they are developed by separate electric divisions. As a result, the two models differ in terms of production facilities, target markets, and underlying platforms.

Forthing offers a diverse lineup that includes models like the Lingzhi M5 MPV, the compact T5 and T5 EVO SUVs, and the all-electric Xinghai S7 sedan. Among these, the T5 series stands out as the foundation for the Friday EV, sharing key design cues and structural elements with it.

Forthing manufactures its vehicles in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China, and positions itself as a sporty, everyday electric vehicle brand.

The Friday EV rides on the EMA-E platform, a dedicated EV architecture developed by Dongfeng. This platform has been designed to deliver optimized performance, improved battery efficiency, enhanced connectivity, and support for autonomous driving features.

As for the launch, officials have yet to confirm a specific date. However, indications suggest that the Friday EV could arrive soon, even though an official timeline remains unannounced.

Design

The Dongfeng Forthing Friday EV stands out with a bold design, shaped under the vision of Henning, a former designer at General Motors and Mercedes-Benz.

Drawing inspiration from an earlier Forthing model, the Friday EV’s front fascia adopts a “bionic front face of the beast,” giving it an aggressive and intimidating look. At the center of this striking front end sits a frameless, mesh-style grille that conceals the fast-charging port.

The grille is flanked by sharp “Thunder-Axe” LED Headlamps, described as “Hunting Eyes,” set within a sleek black housing. There is also an option for Intelligent Height Control feature for the Headlights but only in the Exclusive variant. Together, these elements bring a sense of youthfulness, aggression, and aerodynamic efficiency to the car’s overall presence.

The side profile reinforces its SUV credentials with a clean, aerodynamic silhouette. A colored strip runs along the claddings, adding a sporty flair, while the roofline tapers toward the C-pillar in a converging design. The AC charging port is positioned on the side, maintaining symmetry with the front fast-charging port.

Also, the side profile is highlighted by 19-inch Aluminum Alloy wheels.

At the rear, the Friday EV features Full-Width LED Taillights and a roof spoiler for added sportiness. While the Dual Exhaust-Style decorative elements attempt to boost its aggressive appeal, they serve no real purpose and may feel a bit out of place. Still, they align with the designers’ youthful and energetic theme.

Dongfeng offers the Friday EV in two variants: Luxury and Exclusive. The Exclusive variant adds an Electric Tailgate, which the Luxury version lacks.

Inside, the cabin delivers a modern and intuitive layout. Dominating the dashboard is a 14.6-inch Rotating Infotainment Touchscreen. Both variants come with Leatherette Upholstery. However, the Exclusive variant gets Power-Adjustable Front Seats, while the Luxury variant sticks to Manual Adjustments that allows 6-way and 4-way Adjustability for the driver and passenger, respectively.

The front seats come equipped with an Intelligent Thermostatic system that actively provides both heating and ventilation.

A two-spoke steering wheel with physical controls sits in front of an 8.8-inch Digital Instrument Cluster. The cabin also includes a Wireless Charging pad, a Center Glove Box, Automatic Climate Control, and both USB-A and USB-C ports along with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard on both variants.

Performance

The Forthing Friday EV is powered by a 99 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor that produces a max power of 135 PS and a max torque of 340 Nm.

The global versions of the Friday EV come equipped with a BYD-supplied motor. However, it remains unclear whether this 99 kW variant features it.

It is supported by a 64.4 kWh Lithium ion Phosphate Battery pack that offers a WLTP claimed range of 425 km. Moreover, it can be fully charged in around 10 hours with a 7.2 kW AC Charger while opting for a 11 kW AC charger will do the same in around 6 hours and 30 minutes.

With a 60 kW DC Charger (Nepal’s Context), the vehicle can be charged from 30% to 80% SOC in 35 minutes.

The global variant of the Friday EV packs a powerful 150 kW motor, enabling it to reach a top speed of over 180 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. However, details about the Nepal-specific version with a 99 kW motor remain unavailable.

Additional Details

McPherson Strut with Stabilizer Bar and Multi-link handles the suspension duties on the front and rear respectively.

The dimensions are 4600 mm in length, 1860 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height. Moreover, the wheelbase is 2715 mm.

The ground clearance for the Friday EV is 185 mm. And, the kerb weight is 1820 kg.

Also, the rear boot space 480-liter which is expandable up to 1480-liter.

Dongfeng Forthing Friday EV price in Nepal is expected to start at Rs. Rs. 56.96 Lakhs and might go all the way to Rs. 62.96 Lakhs.

Moreover, Friday EV will be launched across two variants: Luxury and Exclusive. The Luxury variant is the base variant while Exclusive option is the top-spec variant.

Rivals

The DongFeng Forthing Friday EV enters a fiercely competitive segment, facing challenges not only from fellow Chinese brands but also from established global players like Hyundai and Tata. As the Nepali EV market heats up, the Friday EV must prove its worth against launched and well-positioned models such as the MG S5 EV and the Tata Curvv.ev.

All of the vehicles offer similar motor capacities, with the Curvv.ev falling just short of the 99 kW mark at 98 kW. However, it compensates with the lightest weight among the three.

MG and Tata already enjoy a solid reputation in Nepal. MG’s S5 EV, introduced as a successor to the popular ZS EV, builds on an already successful foundation with major upgrades.

Meanwhile, the Tata Curvv.ev marks a bold departure from Tata’s conventional design language with its coupe-like design. It signals the brand’s progressive vision for its electric vehicle lineup. Though its design may be polarizing, the Curvv.ev clearly positions itself as a serious contender in the premium EV space.

On the other hand, the Forthing Friday EV represents a relatively new chapter for DongFeng.

While the brand does have recognition in Nepal thanks to successful models like the Nammi 01, the Friday EV comes from a completely different production line. This creates a sense of unfamiliarity, which the brand must overcome.

The Friday EV does pack several features that align with what modern EV buyers seek—performance, design, and comfort. However, pricing will have the final say about its potential of success in Nepal.

Current reports suggest a possible price range of Rs. 57 Lakhs to Rs. 63 Lakhs, depending on the variant. At this price point, considering its relatively unknown standing and the strength of the competition, DongFeng could have positioned the Friday EV more aggressively.

The final verdict will have to wait until the official pricing is comes out. But based on what we know so far, without compelling pricing and brand positioning, the Forthing Friday EV risks becoming just another face in Nepal’s increasingly crowded EV market.
