Just a few months after launching the Nubia A57 and Nubia A77, ZTE has now officially introduced the Nubia A37e in Nepal. It is adding another budget phone to its lineup, but the launch sequence of its Nubia A-series is getting confusing.

And the confusing part is that these phones do have their own succession pattern. The Nubia A57 follows the A56, while the A77 follows the A76, although the A76 did not make it to Nepal last year.

The A36, meanwhile, arrived in Nepal just last year, so its successor would naturally have been the A37. Instead, ZTE skipped it and has now brought the A37e into the mix.

Now that it is here, let’s see whether there is anything special behind that “e” or if it is just another entry-level phone.

This also makes the A37e the most affordable phone in ZTE’s current Nubia lineup. It takes over the spot of the Nubia A36, which was also priced at Rs. 15,999 for the 4/64GB variant. Though the A36 is currently sold out in Nepal as of this writing.

At this price, the bar is naturally not very high. But that does not mean every compromise gets a free pass. So, it’s time to find out everything about this phone in detail.

ZTE Nubia A37e Overview

Design-wise, the Nubia A37e hardly changes anything from the previous version. It has continued the iPhone 17 Pro-inspired design. I think it’s not surprising, as this trend is popular among several entry-level phones this year.

It gets a seamless unibody design with a plastic body, but sadly, just like the A36, there is no IP rating here. The phone comes in Silvery Gray, Ice Blue, and Cosmic Orange.

Flipping the phone over, you get a 6.52-inch HD+ IPS display with a 720 × 1600-pixel resolution and just a 60Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, its predecessor had a 6.75-inch LCD panel with the same HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. We were not expecting a major display upgrade, but downgrading it this much is another story.

For the chipset, ZTE only mentions a 1.6GHz octa-core processor without revealing the exact model. Based on that description, it could be the UNISOC T7250 or SC9863A.

There is also another possibility: ZTE may have simply carried over the UNISOC T7200 from the A36, which also uses a 1.6GHz octa-core configuration. And considering the A37e has already made a few cutbacks compared to the A36, reusing the same chipset would not exactly be out of character.

For memory, the Nubia A37e comes with 3GB RAM and 64GB of storage in Nepal. ZTE also offers up to 8GB Dynamic RAM, using virtual memory to supplement the physical RAM. The phone is listed with up to 128GB storage, while the built-in storage can also be expanded further via a microSD card.

Another disappointment here is the camera. The A37e comes with an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera, while the A36 offered a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera.

And the competition does not make that cut any easier to justify. The HMD Arc2, coming soon to Nepal, and the already-launched Blackview WAVE 7C make the comparison even tougher. At the same price, they offer 13MP and 32MP rear cameras, respectively, while the WAVE 7C also packs a 13MP selfie camera.

Moving on to the battery, the Nubia A37e packs a 5,000mAh cell, which is pretty standard for phones in this entry-level segment. It also uses a USB Type-C port, so there are no surprises here. The ZTE A37e boots on Android 16 out of the box.

I did not go into the ZTE Nubia A37e expecting a lot. At Rs. 15,999 for the 3/64GB variant, it sits firmly in the entry-level segment, where compromises are expected. Still, some of its cutbacks are hard to ignore, especially when the A36 offered a larger 90Hz display and a higher-resolution rear camera at the same launch price.

ZTE has also been bringing new Nubia phones to Nepal quite regularly. But to me, the brand still feels fairly average in this segment rather than one that really stands out.

At the same time, Rs. 15,999 is a tricky price bracket. There are limited options at this range. So, while the A37e’s compromises are understandable, affordability alone is not enough anymore. With competitors offering more capable hardware around the same price, the A37e feels more like a filler in ZTE’s lineup than a meaningful step forward.

So, in my view, it is not necessarily a bad entry-level phone, but it is hardly an exciting one, and considering what the A36 offered, I expected a little more from the “new” model.
